@TexasGolfer8 ай бұрын
Very nice! This such an under taught and under rated concept. If I am helping a newbie I hammer on use the line on the ball to line up THEN address the ball. Personally, I still do this when I am playing. All my balls have a line on them and on every tee’d or putt’d ball I use that line. These days I don’t care if it’s left or right of the target because I just compensate at address. The reference point is all that matters to me these days.

I use to align with my iron over my feet, towards the target and since I aligned my club face to the target instead, I've become so much more accurate with my clubs. Thanks for all the uploads mate!

I can see your point with this illusion stuff. I look at where I’m hitting from my alignment but invariably, the shots either go left or right. The two-way miss has become a major problem on my approach shots. I’m pin high so I have enough club. I don’t miss too many drives. Still trying to fix it!!!!!

Excellent video on alignment illusion. Many people when they then correct alignment continue to make the same old compensating moves with the new alignment, and have trouble getting the shot to fly as intended. (Sometimes abandoning the new alignment to go back to what they were previously doing because they don't know how their movements need to change for the new better alignment). Perhaps for a future video cover some of the usual compensating moves people make from bad rightward alignment, and talk about what move(s) they should now be making with their better alignment.

I think you may have misunderstood the issue. Its not that your misaligned either with your feet or shoulders. Its the perspective your brain perceives even when you are perfectly aligned and its at its worst the further you are from the ball so driver is the worst. The brain perceives the target to the left when its actually straight ahead, this causes the brain to compensate by adjusting the swing out so that it comes back in towards the target. This results in the outside in swing path aka over the top slice. The solution isn't adjusting your feet, they are already lined up good enough. Its in recognition of the issue and adjusting your swing path to the right, which is actually straight. So swinging out to the right is done by placing a target 25 feet or so straight in front of you and aiming at hitting directly over that target. Its close enough so that the optical illusion isnt created and your brain wont try to compensate thats why pros pick a target just ahead of them to focus on not so much where the ball is landing they a accomplish that by knowing their yardages.

Your comment is exactly why I swing so over the top of the target with the driver. I feel like I'm pointed way right so I swing to the left. I'll have to try your 25 foot away intermediate target but that may be hard to find something that close to aim to
@kenbrown28088 ай бұрын
this is one thing I actually have done properly from the beginning. I've always based my alignment on where I want the ball to go, and adjusted my body position accordingly. which, as you said, creates a parallel offset in your body position.

This video is absolutely critical! I also tell students to also use intermediate target as well. This video should be shown to everyone on the first day before they even pick up a golf club.

This is the MAIN reason for many people failing at golf time and time again. Day in day out. I hear it all the time. "You shoulda seen me yesterday, I almost had an eagle on 3 and birdied 8 and 9." Meanwhile, they are getting intensely aggravated that they aren't producing the same or even close results present time. 90+ percent of these players... don't even stand behind their ball to pick an intermediate point for aiming -_- Don't be like them folks...just stand behind your ball, pick a spot in front of it, and if you're hitting poorly or inconsistent after that... do what Elliott is encouraging in this video!
@gerrypoli67718 ай бұрын
Good video, but how do you set up on the course without laying clubs on the ground?
@AlexElliottGolf8 ай бұрын
I would say do this plenty of times in practice and try to just memorize it, imagining the positions on the golf course
@einstu5 ай бұрын
Not necessarily all the detail are here @Alex. The club face is closing on an arc so if you aim the path of your club on this ball-flag line, it'll draw to the left if you are good, or slice because you'll see the discrepancy when you're over the ball and compensate. Because you are a strong player, your path is actually systematically aimed slightly to the right to get a mini draw.

Funny, Golf Sensei has been getting some decent views on unexactly the same thing.. His post on golf illusions, period just wondering how it is You are now showing the same thing . If you got it from him, it be nice if you gave him some prompts and credit.
@gustyvoshell48958 ай бұрын
The golf sensei is actually talking about a different illusion.. He's talking about how you can feel that your aiming so far right the you subconsciously come over the top and swing to the left. Both of these cases are alignment illusions. For me it was more pertinent to the way golf sensei was showing. Understanding that made a huge difference for me. If, as Elliot is showing, you feel your straight but you are actually aligned left, this method will help. Again, for me, when aligned correctly, I felt I was aiming far right which influenced me to swing left. In this video you are aligned left when you think you are straight.

The simplest way is to stand behind the ball and pick your ball to target line. Pick a point around 1 to 2 feet in front of the ball on the target line (let's say a piece of different coloured grass) Set your club face behind the ball in line with the point you have picked (different coloured grass) then set your feet, hips and shoulders. This is the easiest way to aim correctly

I have the opposite problem. I practice with a launch monitor (Mevo+) because I fight an excessive draw. The launch monitor tells me that my path is too in-to-out. My face at impact is pretty square to the target, so I start on line then the ball curves left. Even if I open my stance and try to swing out-to-in, my body wants to do what it does and I still end up excessively in-out (5-10 degrees). Help!

Hi alex. I recently realized my ball striking is much more consistently in the sweet spot when I start my downswing by first transferring my weight to my left heel. This allows me to stay more balanced. And with proper wrist hinge i still hit it as far as if i try crush it the old way i used to transfer more on middle of left foot. Maybe good for a video?

Years ago I was taught to aim at a spot 6-12 inches in front of the ball along your target line. Find something within that 12 inches or so to use as a target. In the video there were 2 darker chunks in front of the ball that I'd have aimed between. They Almost looked like a shotgun site.

Have you ever had any content on the shaft and grip options on wedges as frequently with any club fitting everyone concentrates on the club manufacturer and reviews rather than looking at how you connect with that lump of metal on the end of the stick. I say this as recently and for the first time in years I moved away for Vokey's as I tried and tested the Mizuno T24's with the same shaft as my irons but I also got some midsize align grips meaning I am now squaring the face automatically now. I found they feel more like my irons and also lighter and more blade like than Vokeys. Don't get me wrong I loved the Vokey's for the best part of 20 years but found them heavy and although a good wedge player the Mizuno's just feel so much softer and more controllable over less than full swings.

Well that seems like it should work, however for me its the exact opposite. I think Im aimed down the line and what seems like a perfect swing for me ends up left of the flag, not a draw mind you, just a straight ball left of where I intend. My guess is its a bit of outside to in with my club path. Been working on it and at the moment Im always feeling like Im aligned right of the flag, but when I hit it they are a lot closer to the target. Lol, Im just the odd guy in this.
