Hey Paul, back in the day when I was weld exaust systems up I had the same problem with being 6'4", so I took a metal bar stool and weld some casters to it to give me a rolling barstool worked excellent for doing welding under my lift, btw hello from Alaska

@@larrybe2900 good idea in theory, but every once and a while i feel it is a good idea to sit while welding then hot sparks land in my lap and i remember why standing is better lol

@@timothycarey3883 I used to weld inside chemical tanks all hunched over and crammed up. I would lay leathers across my lap when welding above for that reason. I remember a guy was trying to have a kid with his wife. We run such high voltage around our crotch that he was taken off the line and moved to the machine shop for 6 months so he wasn't killing the boys for a bit. Can't say I missed that job when I left. Maybe someone should send him a pair of chaps if he builds the stool!

You can never have too many receptacles in a work shop. Add 2-gang metal boxes about 4 feet off the shop floor and you'll always find power. Or, you can throw your tools around like I do every time I need an outlet. --- Thanks for the fun upload. ---

I'd like to see more about that Corvair! That steering wheel and column was truly unique. I suspect there are other elements of interest as well.

It is actually a Chevy Greenbrier pickup which was designed around a Corvair drive train.

Love the Corsair pickemup. You certain you don’t want to bolt some of those skid plates in so if you have to work on trans or transfer case you can without having to cut out a lot of welds…your truck your choice just looking down the road

Paul is best when he is MIG welding. THAT is how we came and bonded with his Channel. I was amazed at the work (aka love) that he put into creating a bumper for his son’s truck.

I have at least 20. No two the same. Have over 100 hammers. I do have some duplicates. But you gotta have your shop hammers, your vehicle hammers, your tractor hammers, and your shed hammers, etc.

@@haroldphipps3457 yeah, I look at tools the same way that I look at firearms, “just 1 more please Honey”, that’s usually all that I have to say. That way (along with “prudent” and relatively infrequent request) she never balks at my request 😊 Oh my, the things that we get when we talk nice 👍

The Rat Rod Wrecker is starting to remind me of the movie " The War Wagon". Back in the early 70s there was a Corvair wagon just like this called The Little Red Wagon at Green Valley Raceway in Ft.Worth. It had a great wheelie show.

There's an old guy in my town who used to be a painter. He had two, a van and a pickup, that he used depending on the season. They both were basically survivors, he had them since new and just took care of them. Idk if he's still in town, he'd be pushing 90 by now.

I love what your doing building all that protection in . BUT what the heck do u do when you have to repair under thse welded in panels. Wouldn't it be better to spend some extra time and make them bolt in?

There's nothing under the panels that can't be removed. The skid pan is removable.

Weight for a wrecker is a good thing. In quite a few episodes of Matt's off road recovery they have needed more weight to pull with the winch, Paul has helped on a few of them.

Great fabrication of a difficult shape. I'm still reminded of the original comment of it being flat-bottomed. That would have been easier on the bottom and no harder in the cab, and better off-road. Nice rock sliders and boat sides. That will definitely slide easily along. You go, Michelle! ! !

The xj being a unibody it'll need the frame stiffener done plus an exocage to really protect it from rollover correct. I wish I could bring my rig to your shop and let things get crazy lol. I love the way y'all build. I do what I can in my apartment parking lot but I ain't got a welder just "basic" tools. I'm a mobile Auto tech so I don't even have a shop to use when I need it coz the body shops I go to are closed on the weekend. Ain't no way I can get ahead enough to get all the resources you have so I play the lottery hoping to win coz all I wanna do is exactly what y'all do and that's build awesome stuff

It's hard to find the time to work on my xj or even go out and enjoy it without someone complaining. much less anything else. I'm pretty sure people would watch what I put out tho. I like that all of the UNDERBODY-GUARD work serves dual purposes (not counting all the extra, unnecessary welding experience Paul gets!!! haha) 1) protection/durability 2) gives you the added weight down low towards the front-ish which should help when you got something on the hook, that is, at least while going up an obstacle, that's for sure lol!!!! Can't wait to see this rig getting utilized, just like the rest of all your awesome builds!!!
