As an Anila main I think this patch is pretty good. Anila and Percy becoming real characters and Nier no longer being a full tier above everyone else is great. They seem to have a pretty good idea of what people's issues are and they said they wanted this patch to come out with 2B but they were focused on bug fixing instead. They also said they had a bigger patch coming and I'm assuming they are waiting until after EVO Japan, hopefully when Beatrix launches.

Even if the patch is "not enough" it's still closer to the ideal reality than it was before. You can't really expect the devs to be able to perfectly hit everything in 1 patch.

When I looked at the patch notes and seen Nier Seox and Lance, but no Zeta I knew that the nerfs were based on how loud people complain. We spent so much talking about those 3 that we forgot to remind the devs not to let Zeta get away with murder

I watched your Nier guide, half ass learned the basic BNB in 5 mins in the lab, hopped on Ranked, and took her up to S in about 2 hours. I've never felt like I did not have to care about what my opponent was doing as much as I do with her. Even with her DP combo gone she is still incredibly strong. She's just not on a tier of her own anymore, but IMO she's still close.

1:10 it has so many awesome features too. There's many you can't even find in another anime fighter, and I love that the developers demonstrate clips of the changes on Twitter. They even added bonus character select portraits for the new characters this patch, since they lacked a free one by having not been in GBVS. Here's to hoping we get something Beatrix patch. @ANIMEILLUMINATI that is definitely true. I feel his health drain is fine. The thing I don't think is alright is the fact that he has the LOWEST value of HP. It shouldn't be too much higher than it is right now, but just enough that he can survive a hit. I mean I've fought Bronze Djeetas who land ONE 2L and are able to combo him for 40% minimum without spending SBA or BP. So either slightly increase his HP but keep fhe HP drain the same percent, or alternatively, give him a tiny damage reduction buff whenever he has all 3 BP. At max BP he could take like 5% less damage, lose one, he loses that defense buff. Just something so that he doesnt die from being -2. Also buff his 5U. For the love of GOD make his 5U usable. Every character can just duck under it or even walk under it if you're Charlotta. And it leaves you wide open, even if charged.

Congrats on the exhibition win Jiyuna. As for the patch I echo a lot of your sentiments, where a lot of characters need similar fundamental changes like Anila to come into their own. Playing Vira I feel like my ult skills are so situation specific they may as well not exist, and the mid screen damage potential feels pathetic compared to other characters. Just wanna see more from the devs sooner than later. I love this game right now for better or worse. But they really do wanna make me switch up mains something fierce.

There are actually far more viable players now. Power level is still high, but it feels like everyone is just a little closer together. Yeah I'd like to see the more but the game is actually in a release state right now and pretty fun to play

You are sadly right. After the semi backlash after this patch, the devs quickly came out to say the patch wasn't big because Evo Japan is at the end of this month. Before that they said they didn't want to make balance changes because Arc Word Tour was soon. Will bet anything they are going to say "Evo 2024 soon so not changes until that's done". We ain't seeing any significant changes nor fixes until August at the earliest.

As an Anila main, I'm very happy about her buffs. I already enjoyed using 66H before the patch and now it is safer and converts from anywhere. I agree. I think the top tiers still need nerfing. Here is hoping the next patch addresses it.

I'm a Vas player and I feel this patch really helped him, but also I feel like Yuel and Vas both still need plenty of love. Vas at the very least needs more damage overall, and Yuel does too, but they both need some way to keep up with the rest of the cast. And Vas changes did help, his stance is way faster now and all that. Yuel got NERFED tho, and I don't know why.

2B in Granblue was a mistake. Especially as someone who is still new to the genre proper (that is, outside of playing story modes and vs cpu) I really dislike the fact that fighting her is not even about her being strong or not but simply about how different she is - she's too air-dashy even for Strive and Granblue is already quite grounded (I think i kinda get why people disliked fighting C Viper in SF4). Not to mention we could've gotten one of 400 other characters in GBF... Happy for Anila buffs but I hate how other characters I like (currently playing Katalina) still lack a lot of tools that other characters get for no reason (Anila had to choose between forward jump-in and crossup jump-in, Katalina's cross up jump-in is super slow to come out while 2B's is perfect, with Vane's coming up right after...)

The Nier nerf is def a big thing for offense now. It barely feels like she has a non-metered reversal since now if you do walking 5L pressure and spotdodge dp on reaction you get a guaranteed punish instead of that bs rps scenario it was before. And even if you do get hit by it she doesn't even get oki so offense on her is sooooooo much easier.

I think the patch is pretty incredible but i agree there needs to be more. I cant fathom how zeta was untouched same with seigfried. Im personally burnt out because i played for hours every single day since release until TNS9 and i managed to get top 24 but im so tired of playing now. 😔

Tbh barring 2B game is in a good state imo. 2B just kills the flow of the game and such. I just have to wait for the 2B to walk in my range to even hope to do something. At least with most characters reaching pokes i can jump them. 2B's strikes from above her downwards and it stops that. So can't really try and avoid the normals. Neutral often demands full screen whiff punishing with heavy buttons because everything else gets crushed by follow ups and so on.

Thank God for SF6. This game is the anime cousin; you can visit him when he wants to act right. All jokes aside, I was sooooo excited for this game. They did almost EVERYTHING right but so few things are hurting it. It's almost a fighting game with no asterisk: a golden experience and we have a dream to see it successful. I'm hoping all of our voices reach the devs once again.

I'll take this patch cycle any day than the way SF6 is handling things with their stupid once a year patch cycle. Also why is it problem if Zeta does 60% damage but Luke/Ken can do it with less resources and from round start? Idk about everyone else's experiences, but I've fought way Luke's/Ken's than I've fought Zetas, 2B's, Seox's, and Niers combined. Like if these two goons don't get something balanced by next patch cycle, idk man...I don't know if I can deal with the Luke/Ken army again for another year.

The problem is, if ANY characters stand out as "Strong" characters, the bandwagon will just jump ship for the new hotness. Back in SFV, i ran into a billion trillion Urien players until he lost his reversal. All the Urien players in my area, at least, dropped him like a bad habit. After the nerf, i fought 2 Uriens in a month of play. ANY variation in strength that causes a character to be perceived as being stronger than others will make the sf6 community shift and act like they mained them since day 1.

Patch was good for the first one. They don't need to kill the top 10 to make a patch better. The major Nier problem she had a perfect offense with one of the best defenses. Attack Nier was very risky cos she could kill you from a simple DP. Now we can attack her without that risk. For me the ONLY patch issue was Zeta. She is so broken and stay untouched.

I know I'm not a good fighting game player but I play mostly Zeta and Ferry. When I play Zeta, I feel like I have options, I can take wins, I can attack, I can be aggressive, I can respond to the enemy and execute my gameplan. When I play Ferry, if they guess right or hit me from 80% of the screen away they destroy 50% of my health and I'm going to lose. I can't do anything back but poke and hope to land 4 combos to try and equalize the health. But that won't even equalize my win chance... Playing Ferry is very much like when I would play Inquisitor in DNF Duel. Every match was the same combo Hitman just wiping me out in 3-4 combos while I would struggle to even approach him. Inquisitor has got a giant freaking polearm but I lose neutral non-stop, I get outranged, I get outpoked, I get outdamaged. Ferry isn't as bad as Inquisitor but it really does feel like it sometimes. I'm also moving away from Granblue back to SF6. Akuma is coming out. I'm going to start playing Cammy again and wait for Akuma. I can at least still play Zeta. :( Please fix game. :(

I honestly like the patch, but yeah i do agree that the game is still basically the same. The changes on 66L is great, but i think we need a little bit more adjustment to make spot dodging 66L 100% consistent. So far i still think "I can spot dodge 66L now, right?", and i want it to be "Oh! I can spot dodge this 66L and punish immediately!". Also, i love how 2B nerf finally made her play GBVSR instead of Melty Blood. 2B is still great & i love her 5M.

@@kingvelard it isn't hard to do a 720 it is hard to do one so impractical most 720s are command grabs which means you are close enough to your opponent and if they didn't jump or if they throw out a meaty button they got robbed right then and there... but 2B is just kind of... well a 3 countdown the screen freeze as she explodes is worse because it saves s for the opponent. As it stands there is no reason to actually use the super in a match because if you win the first round without it the next time you use it it would be pointless (unless you didn't kill the opponent).

@rockheartqueen FGC player named Zettaslow (not a big name) called out Jiyuna for sharing his thoughts on the Granblue patch, saying that he is the loudest person in the room who never actually plays the game. Jiyuna said "don't know you, let's run it" and they played 2 FT7s in UNI and Granblue, both mutual games they played. Jiyuna won both. Granblue was especially notable because, while it was 7-6 if I'm correct, Jiyuna played Vane, who obviously just released. Basically, he needed some clout and came at a bigger creator. I love how just because Jiyuna doesn't stream a game 24/7, it means he doesn't play it. Not like he's put out accurate guides, played the game in said guides, has accurately discussed the games and their metas on his channel, and is also A FATHER. Like man has more important things to do than just play video games on camera all day. It doesn't mean he doesn't play them.

I play nier and I got her to master, and she got hit really hard, I did felt things where that different, so far you forgot she also lost her 66L combo into 2M, she actually could combo that before, now is only on counter hit, which is annoying because I want my whiff punishes to do 50% and lead into a 50/50, how dare you took that away from me, the dp is like meh, I don't mind her losing that, if anything they should have taken the grab reset combos too and I would be fine with that decision, what I don't agree with, is how the dp is now, granted, having a meterless reversal is better than not having any at all, but it's probably the worst dp in the game right now, you can spot dodge it on reaction, you can option select it, you can still grab it, and there's no oki after that, although im fine with it not having oki, but devs, hear me out, make the dp an actual dp, no tomfoolery, make it so that is just a dp with invencibility that cant combo and thats it. Overall nier still nier, so its whatever, 2B a top tier? bruh that character sucks, like sure, she can bully me with big normals, but how is she gonna open me up, baiting me with mcdonalds? I don't think so, oh she's gonna jump on me, jumping L, there, her whole double jump shenanigans are now gone and she has to hold my pressure, what is she gonna do with her shitty defense, call 9s? nah, oh yeah she still has good pressure though, so she's gonna open me up eventually right? the best she can do is run up grab, and she lacking a 5 frame normal means I can just stop her so I don't even care what she tries, realisticly all I have to fear is the shimmy, so I really don't care, but hey, at least she looks nice. I mean, the whole patch is like like you say, it didnt address the underlying issues, and true be told, the funniest thing was siegfried getting nerf from top 5 or 6 to top 1, that was hilarious, and in all honestly, yes the devs heard the player base, but not correctly, they heard and address the bitching of not the player base but the twitter drones that dont even play the game and most of the casuals instead of fixing the issues, right now the game has to many offensive options but almost no defensive options, 66L nerf was a start, because some characters now feel like they dont have to rps of fish for things, more like, maybe I can wait to get a turn and see if I can play, but before was, hmmmm I wonder if he's done dunking on me. Overall the patch was good, but it could be better, nier dp needs fixing, im fine with sieg staying the way he is if the rest of the cast gets buff, lancelot should get nerf more cause he doesnt even play granblue, nier deserves better, I dont know, bring waffles or something.

Oh most definitely. Now low tiers struggle even more with offense while some top tiers still have obscene range on the 66L. Getting unga bunga’d by the top tier… especially against characters that do huge damage, have safe mixups, damage combos from DPs and annoying fuzzies like Zeta This patch felt like a slap really. Because nothing changed and I actually feel like dropping Ladiva altogether. Just going to learn a top tier because I feel like I’m playing CT Hakumen again

I think vanilla granblue was unique in that it really was more about the neutral, to the point that it was kind of boring to watch. they want these ultimate skills and crazy damage in the game, I dont think they're gonna change this game back to how it was in vanilla.

You can keep them in the game and still find a balance. The issue is some characters Ultimate skills are 100x better than other characters.

​@@ANIMEILLUMINATI that's fair. but I don't think they'll listen, it's more likely they'll buff all the ultimate skills to be busted instead. if the ultimate skills are just slightly better versions of the ex version for example like gran kat or djeeta, they're generally not that worth it to use and youd probably opt to not waste your meter and use it for super instead. at that point I'd question if the game needs ultimate skills in the first place (I dont think it did ngl).

I like this patch if only because 66L was way too braindead and the risk reward is so far in the aggressor's favor. Still not gonna play it though. Not until Ultimate Skills get touched and Brave Counter stops being plus fucking 6 on block. Nothing quite like pressing a button or tossing a projectile, only for the screen to turn blue on reaction from half screen away into some of the highest damage combo starters in the game. I've been on both sides of that exchange. I've got 50 meter, so you better not whiff ANYTHING or commit to any move in neutral, or you're getting booty blasted for upwards of 50-60% life.

But for the average player with multiple games and genre’s to juggle it gets hard to want and stick with a game when there’s months of waiting just for minor shakeups to happen or a new character they may or may not like

in order for a fighting game to survive the competitive scene has to be able to thrive, the average player doesn't really matter in this fashion, since they contribute little to nothing for the survivability of the game, the casual audience matters in the sense because they are the viewers, also, only newer people complaints about fighting games not changing for an extended period of time, it is on the best interest of the company to not change things so much to avoid a major backlash for the part of the community that matters, the competitive scene, because this are the people that shows up to tournament, this are the people that keep the game alive, and this are the people that essentially make the game enjoyable for viewers in tournaments, if changes happens, say, every 2 month for example, then it becomes a guessing game, competitive players would simply stop playing a game that doesnt even allow for its player base to develop, it would spell a death setence for the company. I get what you mean, but it is objectively wrong in every sense of the word, cathering to the average player as you suggest would simply kill the game, it's just not a sustainable, right now the new wave of players are extremely spoil in the sense that they expect things to change if they complaint enough, which to a degree is fine, if balance is needed is needed and there's no point in contesting that, but games back then where simply allowed to be explore and optimize, and while yes, its clear who the best are in a game where no changes are implemented, new discoveries lead to things changing, optimization leads to tiers changing, suddenly the top tiers are no longer the same dominating force, fighting games as of now dont have this kind of development, because there's never time to optimize the game, because it's always changing, and the viewers never really see what optimal gameplay looks like unless the game already reach its final patch and if people are still playing it, because more often than not, people just move on to another fighting game, anyway, that's just me, feel free to disagree.

@@KidArkx seems like you didn't read anything, or you're just that ignorant, look, obviously a game with a circuit where there's a sustancial amount of money is gonna make people want to play regardless of how often the game is patch, your main argument, which is fucking stupid by the way, is that pros would not stop playing the most popular game when it has 1 million dollar pot prize, my question is, do you not understand fighting games? it takes time to develop the meta, while it can be kind of obvious what characters are inmediately good of bad, optimization can change that with time, if patches comes as often as 2 or 3 months, that leaves people wondering who are the characters to play and who to practice, while it can be healthy for the viewers to see some variaety, it would ultimately force competitors in a spot where they no longer want to compete because there's no consistency, what they learn may not be useful in the next patch, a setup may just be gone, frametraps change, timings and whatnot, you essentially have to learn everything again, that kind of enviroment makes competitors quit, and while the average player such as yourself can find that appealing, and there's nothing wrong with that, the game would simply cease to have any time of serious competition, because the better you get, the more you see the issues with this type of mentality, but again, I do not expect someone who doesn't compete that often, it comes with experience, and sure, people who wanna play the game will play it, but this is just common sense, a 4 month or 6 month patch is perfectly reasonable for a game like granblue, but other games should take longer, depending on the enviroment.

I prefer this type of patches over the "oh its a new game" type of patches. Like, think DBFZ. Every major patch changed a lot and people were happy for like a month until they found the new stupid meta and it was back to the abyss (well S1 was still the worst by far but you get what I mean). Here it seems like they have a planned design and they're sticking to it and adjusting what makes sense. I also like the game and want it to improve. Real talk it doesn't matter which characters are top tier, what matters is that they're not super annoying to fight against and that they're working on that. I know we're fighting game players and being vindictive towards top tiers (that aren't our main) is supposed to be basically the core of our personality, but a game can still be good even if it has a top tier character we don't like bevause it spent 4 months being *too* top tier. Unless their surname is Valentine, in that case it's a trash game I don't make the rules.

It's really sad that games never seem to change. All the modern fighting games are SO CLOSE to being triple as fun as they are. Literally just tone 66L and Nier down and I'd play. Literally just tone Azucena WR32 and chip damage down and I'd play. Literally just tone JP down and fix the input reader and I'd play. I grew up on what the zoomers think is kusoge but the games couldn't change so you'd just move on. These devs are still going to the office and working on the game, they're getting patched, sooooooo why are the patches like this? Months and months for basically nothing when there is one or two elephants in the room that aren't hard to fix or notice.

I think this is a little short sighted, no? Appreciate your criticism, but as a seasoned player - you know MUs are everything. Buffs to a low tier could give them a subtle advantage vs a specific top tier because they have solid tools for the MU - like the change you mentioned at the end. I’m in the, “Let’s wait a month and see how it shakes out” camp. Then we have real reason to complain. But this feels preemptive to me an and mainly like it was rushed out for views. Usually enjoy your content, but this ain’t it!

when devs pull punches like this, it just prolongs the problems. i get that player perspective is shaped mostly by who your main is, but it's been clear that some characters are way ahead of others and, like you said, some aren't playing the same game. in Xrd I mained Slayer, and he was consistently buffed throughout the game's lifecycle. they were always good or fun buffs but it was never enough to reach parity. we've all seen the TOD clips with Slayer and he could always do that, but the top tiers were always on another level. cygames is making smart changes but like you said, it's just not enough. I think the most egregious stuff is who went untouched (why am i playing anre when i could be zeta and zone with way less work alongside more mobility?)

You're more optimistic than me. I also have always wanted to like GBVS ever since vanilla (GBVS single-handedly brought me out of 7-8 years of retirement cos it looked so damn cool). But, I've always felt like is based on some fundamentally bad design decisions: 1. It feels like a lot of the lowest-risk stuff brings the highest reward. EX attacks largely felt like that in vanilla, and Ultimate skills take this to the extreme - just throw it out and see what happens, cos the majority of them are plus on block anyways. Why not? They lead to the most damage if you hit them, so there's no big opportunity cost. If you get blocked, just try again. 2. Moves with plus frames are very repeatable, and there's no strong defensive options against repeated plus-on-block moves. You have a Guard Cancel, but it has limited uses and you incur a serious penalty if you overuse it. You have a dodge and a roll, but stuff that's plus on block is typically plus because its recovery is low, so those options do nothing. There's no pushblock, no instant block, no parry-type mechanic, no invulnerable backdash, no Melty Blood shield...there's nothing! And, to be fair, I'm not saying that including all of these is a good idea. But compared to other modern fights, it feels like when you block something that's plus in GBVS, your only option in most cases is to guess what's coming next. I liked Rising a lot better than vanilla, but I think unless one of these two things changes entirely, the game is probably always going to feel frustrating. For me, at least.

Zeta needs 75 meter to use 2 ultimates in a row to be a real character. The actual top tiers only need 50 meter to do a single ultimate. Smh fake news putting Zeta top 3....
