It was really suspicious to me as well to see reviews praising the device as if it were totally fine. One of my relatives just got this device as their main phone and while helping them set it up, I did notice a ton of stutter and the experience was not smooth by any stretch of the imagination.

I have the A53 5G and I have noticed that it stutters from time to time but not always. When it stutters for me it's when I push the phone too much when I game. But I've also noticed that the software updates greatly help the phone with the stutters.

As of September 4th, 2023, the device has improved pretty dramatically in performance. Sure, there are still hiccups and stutters, but no where near as it used to be. However, the Exynos 1280 is the only things that is a bit of a drawback for some, but it has improved quite a bit. Over all, this phone is absolutely incredible, and holds a lot of value! Definitely would recommend it.

Thanks for doing this review! The A series deserves this amount of criticism especially the A53. I cannot believe the lag you are getting in the animations, its identical to my Galaxy A50 from 2019 that's crazy. The A50, A51 and A52 have all had similar performance issues, and it seems to be an issue with the Exynos chipset. The only way to really fix it, is to disable the "adaptive battery" mode in the settings, but even then, you'll probably get some lag in other areas, but its much more bearable. I was originally considering going with a Galaxy A53 to upgrade from my now very slow A50, i'm very glad I didn't now. I just bought a extremely well condition refurbished Galaxy S20 Plus from Amazon for $349 instead. haha. Can't wait to get off the Galaxy A5x series phones, i want to love them so badly, because they have awesome screens and great battery life, but the performance issues are unaccepable.

I have galaxy A51 and the experience is pretty similar - laggy and choppy. so my next phone will deff be S22 or S23. its just too much lacking. i understand for 100-200 dollars phone, but not for 400-500 like A53/A73. its less animated and just less fun to use.

Hello there, Big fan from Syria, If I may say my opinion, I think that Xiaomi phones, even midrange phones, are much smother. In the case of A53, the reason of such a lag is the weak processor and the lack of optimization of the system. It is really disappointing and frustrating dealing with such a device on daily basis.

Speaking of competition, thought about an A53 but switched to T-Mobile and got a TCL Stylus 5G. Lower end specs because it's a very inexpensive phone ~$250 usd. It runs well and I wanted to try a Stylus and since I switched it's free. The One Plus Nord N20 5G is also a nice phone at a low price compared to the A53.

I never been a fan of Samsung's budget to midrange lineup because of the amount of cost cutting measures (especially the chip being used) and the confusing naming scheme. Also I live in Asia where phone brands like Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo, etc offer more features and performance for less. Lastly, a flagship phone from last year costs almost the same maybe even less than a brand-new A53.
