I love how every Color/Game based character is the best at something. Red is not the greatest Pokemon trainer. He is the greatest Pokemon Battler. Blue is the greatest Pokemon trainer (You read that right) Yellow is a prodigal Pokemon healer (eat your heart out Nurse Joy) Gold is the best Pokemon breeder (And the best goddamn character with the best goddamn team) Silver is the trading wizard. A straight hustling G, of Pokemon dealings Crystal is the best at catching. And retains this title while using pokeballs *WITH HER FEET* Some of them get the shorter end of the stick as time goes on, but you get the distinct feeling that each character and arc is different in far more ways then new Pokemon and a new world. It's more like a new JoJo part.

Well I'll take responsibility to continue the chain Ruby puts Dawn and May to shame in turns of contests with a record of 80 days Sapphire laughs at the gym challenge with the same record no-one had beat at that point. Emerald has the ability to put all pokémon to ease through his extensive knowledge + certain tools Diamond, Pearl & Platinum reflect the spirits of the lake guardians respectively, making them Cyrus' greatest nightmare. This one's more symbolic but Black and White titled as the "dreamers" are known for going any lengths to stop anything getting in the way of their dreams, being the antitheses of TPlasma's ideology. Blake/Lack-Two is known as the Arrester being a Superintendent of the international police. Contrasting to the dreamers, he is driven by pure judicial policy rather than his own dreams/emotions & is willing to take down foes regardless of their ideologies. Whitley/Whi-Two known as the Liberator is an Ex-TPlasma member who's driven by her dream for true liberation aiming to take down Neo-TPlasma for their abandonment of N's goals. X has a natural affinity for mega evolution due to his pure soul which has been long left untouched by human society whilst Y being a talented Sky Trainer rules airborne battles. Sun is a natural collector of currency which translates into his Z-crystal collecting. Moon being a literal pharmacist knows all there is about poison types and potions. Soudo(Sword) specialies in enhancing pokémon tools and using them to their fullest Shilly(Shield) has a talent for technology even being responsible for creating the dynamax simulator.

My favorite by far would have to be the Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum arcs. I've grown to love these character more than any of the other characters that came before. The fact that they weren't even trying to be pokemon trainere but did anyway is absolutely HILARIOUS to me. Like man, they're just comedians who thought they were getting a free bike ride and instead they saved the world. How fucking funny is that??? And Platina's just trying to climb this mountain while thinking she's got these two completely capable bodyguards, who in turn think SHE'S a tour guide! And somehow they get roped into the gym challenge but it's only her doing it instead of everyone, which is a pretty decent change of pace. And of course the character growth they all experience is phenominal. I love how they all progress in the story, and by the end, they're all completely different, yet still the same core characters. I literally want a Diamond/Pearl remake JUST so I can FINALLY see these characters again. Also for that mining part of the game. Shit was surprisingly fun

Personally think Pokemon Adventures is a better representation of the pokemon universe than the games. The games themselves are held back by just that - they're games. You can only tell so much of a story through them. Adventures goes out of its way to embody the image the player is essentially supposed to feel while playing the game, and adds to it by adding thrilling moments and a sense of stakes that the games can't fully produce other than through challenging mechanics. It feels like less like the game, and more like when me and my childhood friend walked out back and would pretend we were in the world of pokemon, imagining how the fights would go and the interctions would look as we walked around the backyard... a world of true imagination over a world with strick boundaries and rules bounded by an actual competitive title.

The Adventures manga is clearly the cream of the crop when it comes to the Pokemon franchise. It has the most depth and growth, the most beloved characters, the best plots, great humor, and has the most love, time, and effort put into it. The games fluctuate in quality like crazy, with many of the more recent games having plummeted in quality after Gen 5. The anime also fluctuates like mad, ranging from good to bad to unwatchable, but is nevertheless inferior to Adventures even at its peak. The Adventures manga is a beautiful diamond that must always be preserved and explored by both new and old fans, as you can't go wrong with it. My personal favorite "series" in the manga is the DPPt segment, as I love the dynamic between Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, along with the fact that while Platinum is the face of the trio, it's Diamond who's the main hero of their arcs. But, in any case, the Adventures manga is the best that the franchise can offer, hands down.

Something that I loved about the manga is their use of the game characters and when to make them important to the plot. One of the many reasons why videogame adaptations fail is because they try to replicate everything through the player character, but in Pokemon Adventures, that's not the case. Even though the player characters are the protagonists, other characters get to do stuff that only you could do in the game, like in the Diamond and Pearl saga, where Cynthia is the one infiltrating Team Galactic's headquarters and fighting against Cyrus. Not only it gives us a break from watching the main character do literally everything, but we also get to experience parts of the games through the eyes of other characters, while also giving them more spotlight and development that they didn't have in the games. Cynthia IS aware of Team Galactic's schemes and she's actively trying to stop them cuz she's Sinnoh's champion, something that we hardly see in the games

That is a problem the games has in the first place. The champions fell flat as characters because of this weak storytelling choice: Telling not showing. They just straight up tell us "Ooh I'm the league champion and I'm strong" without any way of properly showcasing their strength until we battle them. Say all you want about Cynthia but what trait can you name from her other than her Garchomp that gives Vietnam flashbacks to players? Nothing. A great and challenging final boss sure, but she barely qualifies as a character. And so are the rest of the champions except maybe Blue, N, and US/UM Hau, but that's mainly because they're also rivals and them becoming a champion stems from your built up rivalry with them.

Not just named characters like Cynthia. Random trainers get a moment in the spotlight too. Youngster Joey and a fisherman have significant roles in the GSC arc. Interviewer Gabby and Ty, the recurring (optional) double battle in Gen 3 are secondary protagonists in their own right, investigating all of Team Magma and Aqua's terrorism.

Yes although the anime adaptation needs to be done properly, not some rushjob by some studio that doesn't quite care. Seasons need to be no less than 26 episodes, although if they were stretched to say 39 episodes that would be ok. Season 1 based on Volumes 1-7 (RBG & Y) & Season 2 based on Volumes 8-14 (GSC) need a proper anime adaptation. It would be nice if we also got proper Seasons 3 (RS) & 4 (FRLG & E) as well. Unfortunately I felt the manga's overall quality heavily dropped starting with the Gen4 stuff.

@@justatoaster7476 I haven't really followed the manga for Gens 5-7 that much because of how the Gen 5 & Gen7 manga haven't finished yet, while the Gen6 manga just felt weird. Gens 1-3 were when the Manga was at its best. I greatly prefer FireRed & LeafGreen saga over everything I've read from Gen 4 onward. DPP manga while fun felt awkward because of how disconnected it was from everything that came before with the exception of Sird. Gen 1 manga was by no means repetitive, it was revolutionary. Gen 2's manga I admit had a slow start, although once you get to the 2nd Volume it becomes epic. I admit Gen3 was a step down from the 1st 2 Gens although it was still better than Gen 4's manga. Also what didn't you like about FRLG? A lot of the manga arcs started feeling rushed or halfbaked starting in Gen4. Gen 5 avoids this by actually being its own series continuing to this day. Still you can't ignore the way Gen 6's manga feels or how jumbled up the timeline got. If you like the newer manga arcs good for you, although I just couldn't find them as good as the Gens 1-3 manga. I don't think I can properly judge the manga for Gens 5 or 7 yet as they are ongoing.

I spent the entirity of 2019 reading the manga, and now I have a collection of the manga, from Red and Blue to the now ongoing Sun and Moon. I also habe the official Adventures art book, which contains art from the gen 1 manga all the way up to the gen 6 manga! Once I get some money, I'm gonna buy the next book and read it. Spending a few months without the manga has been incredibly difficult! In other words: I love this manga so much. Specially the earlier chapters means so much to me, and to this date, it's still pretty fun to read, specially when they add little easter eggs to earlier chapters in the series!

I really love how much the characters grow throughout their journeys across all the chapters. One thing i like about this manga is that most of the arc are pretty much interconnected. It actually makes you feel that the Pokemon World are really huge. I love how Red, Blue and Green are actually Senpai to Gold,Silver,Crystal,Yellow,Ruby,Sapphire and Emerald. All connected by a common identity as a Pokedex owner =')

The thing I like about adventures is that they build an almost "semi realistic" pokemon world. Since the games are well, games they have to sacrifice some elements for game play because well they are games and that doesn't make them any less cool. However the adventure manga is able to build on that since it's supposed to be read like a story and not played as well. Small things like dynamic battles, violent stakes that aren't for the sake of edginess or even little cool details like for example N not using pokeballs for his pokemon because of his character make all the difference. I think it's the adaptation of the mechanics the games already had, as well as fleshing out the characters the games already had even more is what make this series awesome.

Actually I wish both anime and game were more like this. Even when I was like 12-14 I found out how deep manga is rather than Ash who never aged, was always the same character and never had any development as well as he fucking left all his powerful pokemons he made deep bonds with just to catch some new in other region. I watched first season, I remember how deeply invested I was when Ash was fighting to become Pokemon Champion and how crushed I was when he lost to his friend, one of guys I don't know even appeared in Pokemon again. I remember Mewtwo escaping from Team Rocket HQ, Giovanni wiping floor with Ash, Ash fighting Blaine using Charizard vs his Magmar, Ash beating Lt Surges Raichu using Pikachu. A lot of battles and moments were memorable, same as Ho-Oh being seen by Ash. I wanted anime to expand on this but never forget about moments, characters and make Ash relatable protagonist who will one day conquer Kanto's Pokemon League. Well, Pokemon went in other direction. Ash is never aging, having any character growth, training to actually become a champion or whatever. Imagine One Piece where you have more parts of Grand Line and after each part, Luffy swaps his crew for new people he meets along the way. This is how Pokemon treats companions, both pokemons and trainers. It's just walking advertise for merchandise and games which are extra by the way, main income comes from merchandise, toys, accesories and stuff. Pokemon Adventures is the best storytelling Pokemon franchise has to offer. It beats anime, beats games, beats movies. I wish I could watch anime based on Pokemon Adventures.

In my opinion, it's not really underrated. It's held in high regard by almost everyone who's read it and for good reason. The fact that it's not well known is because it doesn't have as much exposure as the anime, but that doesn't it's underrated, just under-exposed. I just made up a new word, didn't I? But anyways, I love the manga, but I can't help but feel that the anime is underappreciated by the people who read the manga just because the manga is better objectively. Maybe even subjectively. OK, the manga is better at storytelling than the anime even at its peak. But still, the anime is fun to watch and has some good moments and is the catalyst of why Pokemon is so popular in the first place. Is it overdone? Yes. Does it deserve to be? No. But it's still something special that I feel like most people don't get. Overall, Manga=Under-exposed(yes, I'm gonna use this word from now on), but greatly appreciated, Anime=Underappreciated, but still overexposed. Rant over. And also, D/P is also my favourite chapter. Not so much Platinum though. Second is R/S for me, then Emerald chapter.

I said it once and I'll say it again. The Pokemon TV show we have now sucks. The characters dialogues are painfully bland they always state out the obvious. Ash and Natsu are tied in being sh*tty bland protagonists with the same lame "power of friendship" ideals. Every arc is basically a rehash from the last. Instead of expanding the lore of the games it just acts as a glorified commercial. It's just uninspired beyond belief.

I’m so happy I’m not the only one who gets that “gen 1 feel”. I love it so much, I remember reading Pokémon adventures as a kid and having the same vibe as the game. I also replayed the RB a ton during the years for that unique “90s Japan” “Kaiju monster” “rougher” feel. I obviously loved the anime too but it felt way different. The manga is honestly one of my favorite things of all time. I wish they'd make an anime adaption of the series (and remain faithful to it). Yes, Pokemon's creator did say the manga was the closest to his vision than the games & anime. My favorite arc in the series is the original Red/Blue/Green arc; the X/Y arc, and the Ruby/Sapphire Arc. With my favorite characters being Ruby, Blake (Lack-Two), Yellow, and X. My only gripe with the series is that they still haven't printed the last few chapters of the Black2/White2 arc which is STILL going on. Another fun fact is that there are only 2-4 pokedexs per region (only enough for the protagonists) and they're part of a group called the Pokedex holders (these are the main characters), and they'll all named after the game titles (Red, Blue, Ruby, Black, Emerald X, Sun, you get the idea)

And the Pokedex Holders each have a seperate title relating to their talents, which doesn't hold up after a few generations when the good ones have all been used. Heck, cracks start to form when you get to Gold,'s title in the 2nd gen. Red the Battler, Blue the Trainer, Crystal the Capturer... Gold the Breeder.

Actually, if the title system gets applied to the games, Breeder will definitely be the one that is most used. Imagine instead of having to constantly rely to RNG you can actually control what is the Nature, IV and EV of your pokemon when they hatch. Not only it will save a lot of time but it will pretty much allow you to assemble the best team ever.

I remember picking up a copy of these with Yellow as the protagonist at Barnes & Noble, and even though I didn't really know what was going on, like who Red was, who Lance was and the whole Viridian Forest talking to pokemon thing, I still really enjoyed it.
