Today we will take a look at another third-party auction car that has been repaired and put back in the auction. No drywall screws here, no pin stripe, no rattle can paint. Could this be a proper repair?

I like watching you rebuild cars but listening and watching you diagnose these rebuilt or rejunked auction cars is really good. I would like to see you roam around a big parking lot and look at the cars and see how many poor body shop jobs you can spot. TRy to diagnose what the accident was and the extent of the damage, then if the owner shows up, ask them about it and see how close you were.

Why I first started watching your videos was because you were repairing cars properly. Some guys I know are professional in that trade. I never ask them to explain details, because it’s usually the last thing they want to talk about. Golf, fishing, weddings, bbq’s are not where I want to start talking about how a car is professionally repaired! So I watch your vids. The reason I want to understand car rebuilds is so I’m better informed when purchasing cars, and maybe repairs I am able to try myself. Often learn from you vids, and they are entertaining. Hoping you get your shop situation fixed and things work out great !

As it’s fairly light damage, and looking the time when it was sold by insurance, it was issue with parts. There’s probably heaps of light damage cars from 2020-2022 where cars were totaled, because parts supply issues and cars couldn’t get repaired in timely manner.

One thing about the panel gaps, that isn’t always a way to determine whether it’s been in an accident or not. Because when I had a 2022 Honda HRV, the hood gaps were bad. It was like 1/4 on the left, and 3/4 on the right. When I had a 2020 Chevrolet equinox, when the hood was closed, the right side was 1 inch gap above the headlight. The left side was 3/4 inch gap. Now I understand you know more about cars than I do, but I am just sharing this.

I see this in a complete different industry (business/industrial) and our auctions have been ruined by new scummy flippers who have no idea what they’re buying, they just look up what something sells for on eBay. If there’s a penny of profit margin they’ll bid up to that point, but have no idea what valuation goes into the why something sells for what it does, and appear to forget auctions have substantial fees (10%+). I routinely have people reach out attempting to “sell” something they “have” and send me cropped photos from the auction - as if I, a major reseller, am not already aware of current auctions. Knowing the state of things I usually tell them I’d pay some absurd price and watch the item get bid up past where it would possibly sell for, then let them learn the hard way you shouldn’t buy things you aren’t familiar with - particularly as these are often devices that require professional refurbishment, to sell for the going rate, much like cars. The car auction sites have truly gotten out of hand though, everyone thinks they’re a KZbinr/influencer, and how hard could it be anyway?

It’s possible that the guy who did the tear down, held back some parts when it originally went to the auction. Then tracked it, bought the car and put it together. It looks a little too well done for the regular hacks. Some body guys have been known to make vehicles look worse when they get picked up, so they can buy them cheap. This car is a no pull vehicle, it needs a tub and only a Porsche Certified shop can purchase the tub. This may have been at a non Certified shop and the insurance company didn’t want to move it, the front structure is cast aluminum and is not repairable, they may have had no choice I have seen wealth clients get their cars totaled for almost no damage. If the owner has 12 cars 6 boats 4 businesses and 3 houses, the insurance company doesn’t want to upset him for $100k.

I've always thought it was a waste of space, weight, leather/labor and cost. Kinda the same with BMW 3 series coupes... why a rear seat lol. Also holy cow - $176,000 for a wrecked Turbo S?! Be interested to see what it sells for - I think there might be a nice reward for labor in that. Let's say it sells for their 250k price tag, 75k gross profit, say 35k in parts, fees, transport - that's a 40k profit for the same number of hours you have in many of your builds.... higher risk, for sure, but greater reward.... dare I say it, maybe it's time to stop with the Grand Ams and start with the Porchas. Ooooo, and I just realized, you could move upmarket on sponsors - beard wax, skinny jeans.... those sellers would come running to your door! just think of it all.

I was thinking the same thing: most people with $235k to throw around on a car aren't gonna spend it at an auction on a rebuild. You can get a lot of car for that much money, so the only person who's gonna spend that is someone with a total boner for that specific car who's also on a budget. Otherwise, they'd just assume spend a little extra and get a low miles car from a dealer or private seller with a clean history. Buying rebuilds for that much money would be enough to give most people anxiety.
