My mom was a crocheter. After she died and I was cleaning out the house I found balls and skeins of yarn EVERYWHERE! Fortunately one of my nieces crochets little animals and she took the lot. It was like three huge plastic bins.😂

Oh wow - this project has had so many twists and turns, and the undoing is always painful to see 😁 I'm glad you generally liked the end result, and the button bands! I really like the idea of the collar short rows, even the original vintage sweater has collar popping-up-issues (and idea to add to the pattern?)! Oh yes, the weaving in of the many, many ends 😫 I've been saving my bits to use as stuffing for my hexipuffs. The end result with the modified sleeve pleat gives a real bomber-jacket-look, like someone else says, what amazing work. Also love knitting for pets, and so great to see the stashbusting progress! ❤

If you're worried that it will stretch a bit much across the shoulders, just run a single row of crochet stitches from one shoulder point all the way across the back to the other. Just use single crochet into the shoulder seam. I rescued a slightly too big knit of mine that way. Really quick and effective.

I'm so glad I'm not alone - I feel like every designer should specify whether "the right" means when wearing it or looking at - I struggle every time (and often mess up) Well done on getting another project finished - but how weird that it felted! I wonder what finish they added to the yarn for that to happen 🤔 Absolutely rooting for you to get your total to under 100 - fingers crossed for you, especially for your projects to actually go according to plan 🤞

Love your fringe. I’m a brand new knitter with chronic issues as well. When you were working out the sweater issues, I found myself getting overwhelmed with and for you. I could relate to your frustration. It was scary because you’re an experienced knitter. I’ve recently discovered that gauge swatches serve multiple functions, one of which is to reveal that a yarn I love to crochet😊 is awful to knit. I frogged it three times before resolving to crochet that particular yarn rather than try knitting it against its will! I tried using my Brittany needles (lovely smooth wood), my bamboo needles (too grabby on the halo of the yarn), and lastly metal needles. I constantly dropped stitches if I purled, and I really wanted to make a stockinette scarf. I watch your channel to gain inspiration and motivation on my dark days. I too do better if I’m making things for others. Currently I’m making 120 chenille frogs for Christmas shoeboxes for children in third world countries that may never get toys. I’m on number 91 and plan to get the last 29 done before Thanksgiving. I normally don’t like doing more than one of a kind, but I used to work in orphanages and children’s ministries and know that children with nothing adore soft toys they can hold and snuggle. You’re a real inspiration and I appreciate your finding ways to stay creative in spite of your limitations. It keeps me going. God bless.

If the shoulder width/drop is bothering you, consider adding a woven stay-tape on the inside of the shoulder seam from the collar to the sleeve that is closer to the measurement you want that to be, and easing the seam a bit as you stitch it in to 'shrink' it back and also stabilize it so the sleeves don't stretch it out further.

I keep all of my little bits from weaving/trimming my ends (and fabric scraps) in a big glass jar and whenever I have an amigurumi/stuffed animal project I will nestle them in the middle of my normal stuffing to reduce the amount of stuffing I use and also because either feels bad to throw away all those little bits. I want to make a 1:100 scale crochet Artemis 1 rocket so my jar will be entirely empty very soon

To maybe help explain the lyocell felting issue, it gennerally needa to be washed below 30°C, which is obscenely low, especially considering that most wool wash cycles hang around 40°C. So yes that weird semi-synthetic fiber is some how worse to wash then pure wool, my sympathies.

Claude I want to start by saying I love your hair!!! It's absolutely beautiful, you look stunning. Also, something has been bothering me for the last couple videos. In your most recent "reset" video, you had a count of 124 or so, which is the count you used from that video going forward. However, that count was before you donated a whole bunch of yarn and got all the way down to 100.25 50g balls! Doing the math, you should have ended the video after the reset with 119.75 and the last video at 112.5. That would put this video at 105.18 50g balls! You are absolutely so close to being under 100 by the end of the year, which is such a big milestone in this project! You've put in so much effort you deserve to be proud of how much further you are than you thought these past few months.

Now I don't feel so bad about all the agonizing I did with my cardigan before moving on from step to step. Agonizing, it seems, is part of the process. 😆 It still didn't turn out how I wanted it to, and I'm still agonizing a bit more before moving on to the cuff and trim, but I've decided, "It's my first cardigan. Any mistakes or over/under-calculations I make will just be part of it's charm." Not quite finished, but I'm so stinkin' proud that I even made it this far. Button bands can be confusing; I look at another cardigan before doing the side with the buttonholes. Dogs--and cats--absolutely add to your life. I grew up with dogs and have had amazing dogs in my life. Then, I met a cat and brought her into my home and now, I'm a cat person. Knitting, crocheting, sewing, and quilting--when you can use your talents and your stash(es) to help somene (human or animal) else, it's a win-win!

I had the exact same thing happen with my sleeves on the Mohn! I think I sewed them in like 2.5 times each and even now its more puffy than I would like for the style of the rest of the sweater. I eventually figured out that I must have not decreased at quite the rate I was supposed to, so somehow my piece was a bit long, which caused the puff. I still like my sweater, but it just wasn't what I was expecting from the pattern examples. I also had to back my buttons bands on the Mohn as well just to keep it stabilized and not look like my sweater is too small. I made a video on it for the next sweater I made lol. I think yours turned out really great - I actually really like your color combo :) Hopefully a little distance from staring at it so much will make you love it too.

YES to the 80s vibes! I always enjoy when the 80s-does-40s, so I'm loving this 40s doing 80s take. It came out so well! Some shoulder pads might look good for the structure. I've been laughing at myself recently, because I remember hating them in the 80s and ripping them out of everything, but after watching so much costube and gaining an understanding of how padding was used to adjust women's silhouettes throughout history, and realizing that I kinda have slopey shoulders myself, I have a new appreciation for them. Actually got excited when I found an unopened pair at the thrift store last week, and I'm eager to figure out what to put them in.

Its so hard to keep track of right and left sides of cardigan sides ..... it totally makes sense that it's the sides how they sit when you wear the cardigan .....but somehow keeping that straight when you're looking at it just challenges my brain. For little yarn ends - i collect them in the bottom of my knitting basket and gather them up to use as stuffing when needed (when I occasionally knit christmas ornaments)

I hear you on knitting when things are dark. We live in a chilly part of nsw Australia so when I am struggling, I knit hats for a local homeless shelter. I can knit them without a pattern. It keeps my hands busy. Sending Aussie hugs

Welcome to the fringe club 😊 looks great 😃 As does your cardi. I am a big fan of the boxhead sleeve heads. I think you made an excellent decision in changing them up 🤩

Your new hair is INCREDIBLE to the point where I've had short hair for over a decade but I'm now thinking I might grow it out 👀

Love the hair! I’ve had some variation of a mohawk/undercut for over a decade and I will never grow out a full head of hair ever again. Love the cardigan too, definitely not Halloween.

Blade Runner -fave movie I’d look at thin shoulder pads, but I’m old. I can’t bring myself to count my stash- big congrats to you!- but I have a yarn shop that has become a repository for others’ yarn overload. Love your knitting, beautiful garments with lots of thought. Thank you for the videos.

I love how the cardigan turned out! IMO you made all the right choices. (I agree with others that those are not Halloween colors!)

Hmmm, I love the color scheme. I always block before sewing pieces together. I think you need thin shoulder pads and if you have one shoulder higher than the other you can use two different thickness of shoulder pads to achieve a balanced look

10:56 i have seen several people save their yarn scarps and then card/brush them back into fluff to be spun or felted! I have actually started to save all my scraps for this purpose, sorting them by fiber, and i have accumulated quite the bunch! I am very excited to make them into a new yarn!

Perhaps with your new cardigan, do a running stitch in the shoulder seam to get a better length, then hand stitch a twil tape to the shoulder seam

My mom made me a bunch of baby washcloths with the cotton yarn, and they are the best. They're great washcloths, and now that the babies are grown, they've become really fantastic all-around cleaning cloths -- so a super useful using up the newly found yarn from Little Dorrit!

You can definitely needle felt with all your little scraps. I recently did a couple of livestreams using some of my ends to make coasters and pictures!

Your stash busting series has absolutely inspired me to this on my own. I already stopped buying yarn unless it was for a very specific project I didn’t have anything appropriate for. I need to really go through what I have and figure out things to make to get rid of it all! Some of my yarn is inherited from when my mother stopped knitting and crocheting, so I have a lot of baby pastels from the 80’s and 90’s I truly have no idea what to do with.

That cardigan kind of reminds me of a bomber jacket in structure. I expect it could work really well with a zipper, if you wanted to do a zip instead of buttons. With the cotton yarn you could always use it for a "Claude tries new things" video, to dye or to weave (or to dye a portion and use that for colorwork in the weaving to make pretty tea towels?). I find that both crochet and knitting make fabrics that are a bit thick (or too loose) for tea towels. Knitting is better for dishcloths, oven mitts (felted) etc. But weaving is *fantastic* for tea towels. Also you can use the little odds and ends you've cut off the sweater as stuffing in a pillow/stuffed toy/amigurumi.

Thank you for that! I have considered a zip but I’ve already knitted in the buttonholes. If my buttons arrive and I don’t like them I might try that instead. And thanks for the recommendations about tea towels! Dishcloths it is 😊

I totally know your confusion about right/left front!! Alsocheck that method of buttonband, as I always knit it and sew on in the end as I dont like any of the cast off edge look for that edge

I keep the little bits and decorate gifts with them instead of curling ribbon. It’s particularly pretty with brown paper. I also plan to use them as stuffing if I ever make toy animals (I have amassed a huge collection of yarn ends). I love the idea of using them to needle felt though!
