5:40 and 6:37. that's a Windows/focus thing. Touching another application on another window is essentially the same as alt tabbing to said application. If Asus changes how that works, I'd be very impressed.

Asus probably isn't gonna do that, but there's third-party software that have a workaround for this, though it's not always perfect.

You could say that what he would like to do is splitscreen web browser and word for example and be able to type into the word and be able to browse the internet at the same time. In that case you would have to somehow allocatemouse and keyboard to different aplications and not work on the other or have them on separate virtual machines.
@tb_eest
@tb_eest 4 жыл бұрын
@@juhokaartoaho It'd require a lot of work. And while the statement sounds intuitive, your mouse and keyboard focusing on different apps is probably a whole lot more confusing in practice. If it'd confuse the average person who isn't expecting it, they probably won't do it.

Borderless Fullscreen is how I always play my games, I can't stand having to alt+shift out of a game to use something on my second monitor. My question is, does the secondary screen on that laptop allow any windows to be put into fullscreen mode, while still allowing you to use your main monitor without the second one going out of fullscreen mode?
@casiteal
@casiteal 4 жыл бұрын
No the bottom screen is identical to having two monitors as far as windows is concerned. If you had something in full screen on the second monitor, it would behave just like portal did before he switched it to borderless windowed mode. This is why borderless windowed mode is preferred in every application when having multiple monitors.

I use alt-tab for sake of faster use, the only games that are silly are Rocket League and Software Inc. both of those games if alt-tab you lose the game window, and they don't have windowed borderless either. For me hitting two keys is faster than moving my mouse after I hit escape to pause the game. Nothing wrong with fullscreen borderless, I'm just saying the benefit to it isn't not having to alt-tab, the only benefit is being able to see the game, which most games with fullscreen even do automatically. Also, if I'm only alt-tabbing to type in Discord, you don't need to move the mouse at all, if you alt-tab (set focus) to Discord you can just immediately type, also why using mouse to do stuff is slower, you never have to take hands off the keyboard.
@mojolotz
@mojolotz 4 жыл бұрын
That is not traditionally how fullscreen works. you'll always have to window it. Fullscreen works differently in rendering, as nothing behind it is taken into account in rendering. in borderless fullscreen the other stuff is still in memory and its just not used. That being said with modern systems i'd just always go with borderless fullscreen unless an app you are using is a GIANT performance hog.
@John_1920
@John_1920 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for pointing this out to me, I may have been tired when I watched this video, I remember now - after having slept - that what you mentioned did happen. I'm just hoping that they start building these with sort of two dedicated monitors that function regardless of whether one is in fullscreen mode or borderless fullscreen mode.

I fix and ship a lot of laptops, I use way less packaging than that and I rarely get calls about the laptops returning damaged. When I do it's normally USPS's fault and better packaging wasn't going to save it. The reason why new laptops come with a ton of it is typically because of people like best buy employees who play hacky sack with the boxes of laptops or other reasons pertaining to things like forklift accidents.

@@HelixAdamOxford I'm not, and it's literally what everyone who ships laptops uses, believe it or not it's absolutely fine. Buy a used one and you'll see what I mean. The profit margins on repairs are already razor thin, the extra $40+ for shipping would make it not possible to do them. I used better but a lot of the time the shipping was around $100 for me, which means it's not worth it for the consumer to get a repair. A repair is around $400-500, that's already enough to buy a good used laptop. Anything higher and they can just ignore the laptop and buy a new one. Profit margins on used laptops are also razor thin.

Looks like a really cool laptop, especially with the folding screen when the main screen is open. Wish it had one of the new Ryzen chips in there. That with an RTX 2080 Super? Killer portable gaming set up. At 4:50 - yes, that is an international keyboard (UK by the looks of it (102/105 ISO) ). You can tell by the short left shift, the £ sign on the number 3 and the location of the quotes of number 2. However, it differs by using a long and narrow enter, where the UK keyboard is a somewhat short and double row key and moving the hash key to above the enter key. So its like an in-between keyboard (unless they made that choice so they can have arrow keys and long right shift, in which case, yep, that's probably going to be the international qwerty keyboard for the UK).

Elite: Dangerous would also benefit since using stuff like EDDB to find trade routes and such is useful and needs a browser. If you were to go to display settings and make it 1 big screen, Software Inc. would be good on the laptop, a lot of in-game windows that you could leave open on the bottom monitor, put Monopoly on the main screen and play a game like DiRT Rally on the bottom, or maybe play Orbt XL or chrome://network-error/-106 on the bottom screen and Cook, Serve, Delicious on the main screen, maybe Poker Night 2 on main screen and One More Line on bottom screen. Point being, Alex didn't think about people who play casual games (Dino Game is far from casual after 700 Score though) while they also play a game that is turn based or takes a while, like if I had a 2nd dedicated monitor plugged to the laptop, 2nd screen is my Elite Dangerous browser stuff, top laptop is Elite Dangerous and bottom laptop is Poker Night 2. Seriously, I actually play 2 games at once, I even managed to play 3 at once before, when you play 3 at once all games need to be turn based though, 2 games is easy no matter what genre.

My guess with the speakers sounding much louder then they should is due to the amount of open space under the laptop while on a flat top surface. The speakers could possibly be firing on a slight angle, off-axis, then disperses over the surface. Acoustics is a tricky one! Though headphones or an external audio output is always better for sound. Intrigued to see the final make of the laptop

Alex, the thing that the game tabs out is normal. If you have a desktop pc with 2 monitors hooked up and you are playing a game in fullscreen and try to do something on the other monitor it will tab out. It is not Asus's fault. The way I fix this problem is just putting my games on fullscreen borderless, that way if I am playing a game and let's say I get a call on discord or something, I just quickly press "ESC" move my mouse to the other screen, answer the call, then move my mouse back to my main monitor, and that's it.

I work in IT and I think I have a quick and simple workaround to resolve the gaming input loss when touching the 2nd monitor. I'm going to use my version of technical jargon so my target audience are power users or other technical professionals. Just create a simple macro: 1. Trigger: Either user toggle input switch that users can enable/disable anytime or for a seamless approach have the macro auto-enable when certain apps are running like video games or any fullscreen (windowed) apps. 2. Action: Every time touch screen on secondary monitors registers an input, the moment the user lift their finger off the touchscreen, the macro will execute a quick automated alt+tab without showing Windows GUI app switching window. (so users don't see a quick app switch GUI flash) Potential Drawbacks: This script will be very abrupt to users if games or apps are running on fullscreen (not windowed) since monitors will flash black for a second. Of course fullscreen (windowed) option fixes that issue, but not all video games have that as in-game options or would require .ini file edits. What do you guys think? ------------ Optional Fun Fact: When we do an alt+tab vs an automated macro that can execute with 1ms delay on each key action, then the macro will be WAY faster than us! Using Corsair iCUE I timed myself doing alt+tab as fast as I can with my left thumb and ring finger and this is my result: - Press key Alt - Pause execution for 26 ms - Press key Tab - Pause execution for 49 ms - Release key Alt - Pause execution for 43 ms - Release key Tab

What's happening is as sound is emitted from the speakers onto a surface , some of the sound will be absorbed depending on how "soft" the surface is whereas the rest will bounce off of it, making it appear "fuller". You can do something similar with your phone. Either form a cup with your hands around the speakers of your phone, or if you have a corner available to you, prop the phone up against the wall with the speakers pointed at the corner. Of course it's not a silver bullet for lower quality speakers, you'll have different experiences across different surfaces and will affect what sounds are making it out of the speakers to your ears but it is enhancing the experience for most use cases.

I don't get why people dislike the short left shift key, with the extra key next to it :D The extra key is a super comfortable free extra key. I don't use caps-lock or the right shift and can comfortably speed touch-type using only the small left shift key. And I don't misclick either key more than I would any other key. And the shift key is still super comfortable to rest my pinky on for 10+ hour gaming sessions (I use the shift key constantly with my bindings) It's just a free extra key; what's to hate? :) Besides, if you want you can just rebind the extra key back to shift in software. XD If you play with ESDF rather than WASD, you can just swap the shift and '\' keys around (or both to shift) in software similar to above.
