This week I take on A Bolt From The Blue, a new bolt style puzzle from Ali Morris of the UK. The second bolt puzzle I have done by Ali and I know he can create some sneaky designs but I was not expecting the solution to this one! I think this is going to be one to divide opinion for sure, do let me know what you think.

I think this is the correct solution - only reason that rubber band would exist is to provide that friction

Ye I feel the internals do seem to indicate that is it and I don't think there is much else you could do to free it

Hmmm I’m a bit dubious. I mean it could be the solution, but I don’t think any of your other puzzles required force like this. Hard to say. But thank you, another great video from you!

Thanks Daniel, I think it is after thinking about it for a while. The internal setup would mean that is how to remove that piece and if it was something the other end I feel the nut would be more securely fixed in place. Maybe I should check in with Ali though!

I think you were on the right track with a hidden allen wrench. I don't think it's a good puzzle if you have to force it.

Yeah, I don't know about this one. Could it be as simple as forcing the end off like that?🤔

It's so simple but at the same time took a while to actually get there! I think this is the solution but might check with the maker to confirm.

I struglled 3 hours with it. My hand was hurting and i got corn on index finger. Had same feelings and thoughts when solving. I got that i need to remove that nut but i thought there was a pin or something blocking that got stucked in my copy as was no noise, i had more of a movement from my bolt and i had to watch your video for a solution unfortunately :( The problem with this bolt is i cant give it to a kids or a woman, it requires to much force and contradicts everything i tell them about how to handle MY puzzles. Its a "bad radio" or a "sputnik" type of puzzle, and i'm confused when it comes to be brutal to puzzles.

Ye, so the video is edited but did take me a while to arrive at this solution, not particularly entertaining watching someone re-do the same things 100 times before trying the actual solution. I'm on the fence about it, quite sneaky and clever and I don't feel a puzzle has to follow a certain rule book so think in some ways it's quite clever but not the most satisfying thing to solve! Bad Radio I am not sure I would ever have solved if I had my hands on one before knowing the solution!

I'd be so disappointed if I paid for that only for the solution to be "pull hard". It wasn't clever. It just padded the time to solve by relying on people's fear of breaking puzzles from using force. The time to solve was paded by I'm definately not gonna buy puzzles from Ali Morris now that I know about this one.

Think you might be shooting yourself in the foot there. I agree maybe this isn't the most complicated puzzle in the world but having done a couple of his other puzzles i can say you would be missing out buy not trying any of Ali Morris's other puzzles.
