I can't believe I heard this phrase come out of Gary's mouth: "It doesn't need to be perfect." I thought Gary's OCD wouldn't allow anything he did to be anything other than perfect.😁

I hope you're not using pressure treated lumber for the nesting box,Pressure-treated wood has been imbued with a combination of pesticide and fungicide, and therefore, should be avoided as a nest box material; instead, you can extend the life of your nest box by gluing all the joints before nailing them.

For future reference, a Sawzall with no blade makes a great vibrator for concrete to remove air bubbles. A 5 gal bucket can be used to make water measurements. Just fill with 1 gallon and make a sharpie mark and repeat for the other 4 gallons for correct water filling.

Were been breeding bunnies for about 10 years and breed in winter also, they do not have a problem with winter breeding, and rabbits can withstand the cold weather.. we don't use breeding boxes either, but we don't keep them caged up like that...they have their pens witch leads to a large caged run so they can run around and play also, they love playing and I really don't understand why people keep them caged like yall do...

Ok , I am happy you made a wood box for mama. But, it needs more roof on it to enclose it for more privacy. It needs the 2x4 piece of wood removed and lower the front piece of wood cut down to 4 to 5 inches. Babies need to jump out and yet come off mama when nursing when little without falling out. More top and less front on the box. You can find a tried and true box design probably on google or KZbin. Also, not sure pressure treated wood is good. I think they no longer use chemicals, so that’s probably ok. Mama will definitely chew on it. They need something to chew on the keep their teeth from growing too long! And the box is what rabbit will use. Just sharing my knowledge from years of rabbits … from SW Missouri Wood box is best! I don’t know why you are waiting to put her with her box. She needs to acclimate. And my mamas would start sometimes 2 weeks early pulling hair for bedding. Give her time to feel safe with her box. Holes in the bottom not needed. When done take it out and rinse it out and put it back in. It’s her bed, not just a birth bed! So do your rabbits have salt? Don’t forget… start putting some cat food in her box now. The extra protein will keep her from eating her babies. Cut a hole in wire and feeder slides through. A perfect fit to put in the cage… enough for rabbit to eat from the feeder. But it works ok as you have it too.

There are some bunnies that don’t like you to touch their babies even though you have done it in the past I would recommend that you wait until their eyes are open. Resist the urge. I have raised rabbits so this does come from my experience. You can even cover the front of the cage to give her privacy. She just might be that type. Good luck.

Add straw right through all the floors of tbe hutchetc as it provides warmth and also quality hay as it should be 90% of a rabbit's diet. Also the mother rsbbit should be able to forage for her foid and also to build up het nesting mayerials to have her kittens . They even pull tbe own fur out especislly when tbey shed it after winter to help line the nests.
