My grandpa worked for sharp from 80 to 94. He told me a few years ago before he passed away that Sears, KMart and a few circuit city stores sold them and that was it. Any sharp dealer could order them to sell in their stores but most didn't.

You friend should join the Facebook group “Sharp NES TV Owners!” There is a guy in there that finally figured out 3d modeling the doors and he 3d prints and sells them. Also he should register the serial number with the group since they are so rare!

Who hired that moron? You don't blow in cartridges, it creates moisture and causes oxidation and corrosion over time and ruins carts for long-term collectors. He should be cleaning the carts with 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol instead. Such common sense should be a requirement for working in a store like this.

Although I love the nostalgia and content like this, there's nothing truly 'essential' about shopping for a retro gaming device at present and so it would've been nice to see these guys taking some precaution and showing some respect for that awesome guy working in that store. In a store like that I'm sure he's desperate to make a sale and probably wouldn't fuss about a guest not wearing a mask and that's the sad and compromising conflict of interest in this situation.

Hi Chad here from Elitegeeks El'retro'nics in Timmins Ontario. Was painful watching you guys try and get the fame working. Don't blow in the games. Salty saliva equals corrosion. Your best friend is a qtip and isopropyl alcohol for a good clean and really wet a board on a game and feed it in and out when pushed down. Also bending the pins on the inside so it's tight is also good.

Ah, yes. The classic NES lock out chip issue, concerning the used contacts. Here's an amazing hack for making your NES work like new. And it's a million times easier then trying to disassemble your holy grail to get at those contacts. Plus, it's amazingly cheap and amazingly easy. Step one: (Probably E-Bay.) Get this device named The Game Genie. (For NES) Step two: Plug your game into The Game Genie. Step three: Plug Game Genie w/ game into the NES cartridge slot. Step four: (Hopefully) Enjoy your game on the first start up try. You don't even need to cheat when using this device. (Though, you can...if you want to.) The reason this works is because of that complex, VCR-like interface and the way the cartridge usually sits in there. The Game Genie makes contact differently. Of course, it also wouldn't hurt to hunt down a lightly used NES cleaning kit. And I still occasionally see those in thrift stores/pawn shops/yard sales.

I have the controllers to one of these with my actual NES. A buddy of mine had this TV when I was a kid, and I traded him my stock controllers for these black ones. I've had them for years.

I passed on one of these for 350.00 bucks two years ago. No original controllers and all the plastic legs were trashed. My biggest fear was repair if something broke down and I would try to preserve it over playing games with it. Glad you were able to take it home. They are rare as dragons teeth although I met a guy in Myrtle Beach who has an arcade/video game store and I think had a total of 5. He had an incredible collection of stand ups.

As someone who grew up with a Sharp TV until the year 2000 (I'm dead serious, this was the MAIN TV, and it was NOT a big TV, below 20 inches, probably around 15) I can vouch for that brand. I had my absolute best gaming moments on that TV, and it had mono sound, lol. No SCART, NES was over RF, and the N64 used the right audio channel. It was legitimately awesome.
