Scotty, I think I got my 2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue's cooling system fixed after watching your older video of why the cooling fans don't work and it turned out I had air in the coolant and didn't realizes the radiator had a bleeder screw on top of the lower radiator hose and the bleeder hole by the right headlamp assembly. For the squeaking pulley, should I replace the tensioner assembly or the pulley itself?

2005/2006 7th gen Honda Civic EX (has the Vtech and the sun roof), perfect condition, one driver before me knew her and she only used it to go to and from work on the freeway, car was 3500$ with 140k miles, runs like a champ (her husband who is our family friend, is an insurance adjuster and used to buy corvettes, fix them up and sell them as a young man, I’m sure he kept it maintained well)... I’d recommend something like that for a daily driver that you can beat up and not worry about it. If you want something more sporty like that Nissan I’d just suck it up and get the more reliable vehicle, unless you want to be throwing tons of money into it like Scotty said.. fun, old cars (they just need more and more love with age) ... I bought a Toyota Corolla AE86 GTS that was in perfect condition with 120k original miles as a daily driver thinking it would be a fun reliable sporty car.... that thing kept me spending soooo much in repairs, would have been a great weekend only driver but as a daily driver I put over 5k in repairs into within a 3 1/2 year span... put a lot into repairs into a Lincoln MARK VII that was in perfect condition with low miles, one previous owner too... that was a collector car and I treated it like that though.

But since I have them it has always been minor fixes like valve cover gasket, radiator leaking, alternator, leaking radiator hose, brake pads and rotors. Ac compressor , broken door handles. But now I have 2 other cars not too old and I don’t have to fix as much as the other ones.

A puff of blue when you fire an engine up often means bad valve seals. They usually last longer than 3 years, but if the engine has been overheated, it can toast new seals. It's unlikely to be a head gasket, but the classic test for that is run the engine with the radiator cap off and look for bubbles. Also check the oil for signs of water , if it looks like a double-double coffee, it's your head gasket.

The old cars like the probe gt 1994 are on obd1 and its a real challenge to diagnose becuz the system will give only very basic codes and sometimes the issue is not shown as a code, so u gotta use ur mechanic skills to figure it out the hard way...LOL I am amazed at the volume of info an obd2 system provides...it almost makes it easy .

@rickhinojosa5455 5 жыл бұрын
@@qiangwu6118 hi. They SAY no down payment needed but I'm pretty sure people won't walk off the lot with a used car without paying some kind of fees. I remember going into our local 'own a car' and bought a used truck. From the point where the salesman said it would cost me X much to buy that truck, to where I actually was signing a contract was about three thousand difference. Lots reasons for that but the bottom line was he bs'd me. I wasn't saavy enough to avoid being duped. I thought Scotty's insight to the cost of the car to the dealer being the down payment insightful...if it's accurate. I had a friend who was a used car salesman and he got out of it after several successful years because he couldn't stand how they cheated people. Maybe with NEW cars the no down payment thing works. But for used car, I think they get their coats out of it initially. But I don't really have any inside knowledge myself. It just makes sound business sense to get your costs out initially or else you would go broke with deadbeats that don't pay. The payments and then trash the car before you can repossess it. Have a nice day.🙏

Typically, if you get blue smoke on startup and then it goes away, valve seals are probably wearing out. You get some oil seeping through while it's parked; the oil collects on top of the valves and then burns out in a few minutes. If you're constantly burning blue smoke, then your piston rings are going out.

Oil from natural gas? I've not heard of it before. I can't imagine what it's like. What is the deal? Is it really good pure oil? Does it last and keep your engine clean etc? I learn something every time I watch this guy. I bought a cheap bluetooth engine diagnostic device. Never used it. I also bought an SK...forgot the same...chip that you wire to your air intake and it changes engine parameters that save gas or provide better performance. But my car is breaking faster than I can fix it, much less make it perform better, not without risking screwing something up. That's the part that scares me. Today I fixed a seat control module. I did it by going to a junkyard and finding one in immaculate shape. Works perfectly. So happy about that but the company that ruined it by flooding my car with water, fixing a water leak, also ruined my leather seats. You can imagine the garage leaping to replace those seat covers, apologizing profusely, but I'm joking. Nobody takes accountability for anything they do, it seems. I wish I knew a good leather repair/replace guy. If you know one, or are one, let me Know.

Mustangs automatic transmissions from that era can shutter when driving in low rpms (city driving) from 3-4th gear shift. Put a shift kit on it (and fluid/ filter change) and it should make shifts much firmer. Performance Automatic has a pretty good one.

Out of all 7 colors Blue light scatters most: Effect is called Rayleigh's scattering. Particles in burnt motor oil are are small, hence Raleigh's scattering making the smoke blue. Regular exhaust gas particles are much bigger and will scatter all colors and appears as white (same reason why clouds are white): Day time the sky is blue is also due to Rayleigh's scattering.

Hey Scotty, I live in Europe and have a 2013 Alfa Romeo Giullietta 4 cylinder Multi-air Petrol 170HP with manual transmission and 37 500 miles on it. Its front right brake squeaks when the wheel is turned in random angles. Whenever it happens, as soon as I brake it stops. It never does it with cold brakes right after starting the car in the morning, only after I have braked a few times. Weirdest thing is the wheel angle at which it squeaks is random every time and sometimes it doesn't even do it, but when I find an angle at which it squeaks and I sustain that angle (in a turn for ex.) then it may just stay or may fade away. I haven't found any relationship to the weather (does it in winter and in summer) and both break pads and rotor have still plenty to chew through before being worn out. Thanks for any feedback. PS: I read that the DNA system has a break pre-pumping in dynamic mode, could a fault in this be it? Yet it happens even when not using the dynamic mode.

One thing you gotta remember nowadays is in some regions the auto parts stores don't buy factory direct for things like motor oil and stuff they actually buy theirs from Walmart in bulk quantities but they still end up paying at least as much per court as Walmart charges their own customers so if you can get that oil at Walmart it is always going to be cheaper cars usually Walmart orders that stuff by the truckload and then they store it themselves at 1 of many numerous different warehouses that they have access to and usually the auto parts stores just go and buy a pallet from Places like Walmart Every now and then especially in certain regions so Walmart is the one who mainly buys factory direct and then they do a lot of retail selling to the auto parts stores for things like that nowadays.

I had a 2003 Mustang GT automatic with 186,000 miles (one light second!). I had the transmission fluid changed around that time because I thought it shifted funny one day.
