Agreed. James Bond also represents committing to an nearly effortless, stoic pragmatic approach to your lifestyle, and applying active motion towards achieving your goals in an objectivist perspective, so Omega better qualifies as a Bond brand rather than Rolex, in my opinion.

This may well have been talked about in another comment, but it turns out Omega offers three bracelet lengths for this titanium 007 Edition. The standard length is the one that ships to ADs and boutiques by default (and is what is on the on in this video). I had the same gap on my wrist when I tried it on. However, you can spec either a longer or shorter version as well. They are a no-cost option from Omega and will resolve the gap issue that is (fairly) being pointed out.
@jamiea8318 Жыл бұрын
I have the short version and it wears great on a 6.5 wrist
@raymondha7699 Жыл бұрын
I second this. Also, the bracelet loosens up and conforms to the wrist over time. I have a 6-3/4” wrist and it fits perfect after a few wears on the short length bracelet. I highly recommend getting one before they’re gone!

LONGER? I have the standard version on an 8.5" wrist and it's borderline too long, although the curve is perfect. I don't think I'd be able to get it over my hand on a smaller clasp. Although I do have the clasp in the last or last but one bracelet hole which does put the clasp about mid wrist

8:47 The helium escape valve makes the SMP the SMP. Its their signature. Almost iconic in a way. If you see someone wearing a watch and you spot the helium valve, its almost a certainty that the watch he or she is wearing is an Omega. I don't understand people wanting it removed. Its like asking Rolex to remove the cyclops on their watches.
@AndyAdventuring3 жыл бұрын
Yep. Absolutely keep it. Do I need it? Nope. Does it ruin symmetry? Yep. But at this point it's part of the SMP's DNA. Almost all of his requests for the stainless SMP near the end of the video basically turn it into a Submariner.

100% agree, I’ve always thought the cyclops is horrific looking, but it’s distinctly Rolex. I don’t mind the escape valve at all and I think it adds a unique wabi sabi and asymmetry to the watch to make it unique

@@AndyAdventuring IMO the older ones have a less obnoxious (and thus better looking) HEV. The 2220.80 is the best Seamaster 300m for me at least.
@ivanharlokin2 жыл бұрын
"Its like asking Rolex to remove the cyclops on their watches" You can get a Seamaster without a cyclops, and the cyclops itself has some utility. Not only is the Omega HEV next to useless, if you happened to be deep saturation diving, the external Omega wart is no more effective than the internal HEVs of other watch manufactures.
@patrickjean-philippe76792 жыл бұрын
The manual helium escape valve would be equally as effective as the internal ones. The difference is that the Omega’s helium escape valve is manual whereas internal ones are automatic which is better in my view point… Divers forgetting to manually open their Omega Seamaster helium escape valve whilst in the chamber during the decompression phase may see their watch crystal just pop out due to the pressure difference build-up… i.e. lower pressure in the chamber vs in the watch. Now, in any case, the decompression must be performed very slow such as to avoid injuring the divers hence hopefully helium which is one of the tiniest molecules, may find it’s way out through both the crown and helium escape valve’s gaskets even though the later may be closed… My father did saturation diving, with Comex at times for experimental dives, throughout thr 60-70ies. He had a mono-block Seiko without helium escape valve and it never popped… Perhaps he opened the crown…

Omega Seamasters were issued to SBS members in real life (and I believe Bond's fictionalized resume includes assignment to the SBS during his Royal Navy career- therefore, it makes sense him wearing this watch) so its broad arrow designation in this instance is not purely just a gimmick as Omega does have a military pedigree ( I remember reading Omega was the MODs largest watch supplier during WW2).
@ustac12472 жыл бұрын
Yes, AND it's my understanding that the British MOD gave Omega permission to include it (broad arrow pheon) for that reason AND because they like the Bond franchise and what it does for British MOD PR. So, Omega's EARNED it.

I think it's an extremely well done special edition. I fully agree with your bracelet concerns. On the other hand I'm fully for making a 007 watch, as it is actually a part of the movies. James Bond is a realistic fictional character set in our world who wears not some kind of a fictional watch but an actual Omega. It's different from creating a Harry Potter watch as you would have nothing to work with in the beginning. He "lives" in a completely different universe, so saying he woud wear a Tudor or sth would be quite silly
@junboklee45323 жыл бұрын
I just got this watch and honestly I love it. I am no Bonds fan and the clasp and bracelet do create small issues as a guy having a small wrist (thanks for pointing it out) so I did try it out fully with the clasp closed at the AD but decided to take the risk. I do have a couple of IWCs and GS and was afraid that this watch may not get any wrist time in the end. For this particular watch, the design elements including the fake patina, lightness, and no date work quiet well converging together in this one piece. I am hoping that Omega will learn from this and incorporate some of the pros into their main production line as this Seamaster will be an odd one albeit a very lovely one. While the Bond connection might be viewed by some as a gimmick (yes it is) it allows Omega to experiment freely and in this case I shall say it is a success.

Coming back to this video after a while, Adrian - what’s funny is that around 8:56 you tweak the Bond Seamaster to make a ‘winning product’. Reminds me a little now of the new Pelagos 39…funny that!

So I found out Omega released a SS mesh bracelet; I'm really close to buying a white dial SMP and putting a mesh bracelet on it. 😅

ouuuu i loved your seamaster mock up. Really cool and interesting thoughts, A.

Great video as always. Of all the Seamasters I’ve seen, your imaginary mock up is the best. That would be an iconic design if they ever made it. And I too would buy it in a second!
@treedillinger58013 жыл бұрын
I’m confused. Are you saying THIS watch is nearly perfect, or the one you designed at the end? You changed practically everything about the watch. You actually spent most of the video criticizing details of this watch-which I agree with (Bond gimmick, fake broad arrow, fake patina, clasp, no display case etc.) but the title says it’s nearly perfect.... watch out Rolex?

I’m disappointed in your view of the 007 link . 007 is an icon since the 60s that transcends the latest fashions and defines coolness unlike Harry potters. 007 is what every man would define as bad ass . So if he wears it it’s cool and important and I would love to be a part of that .

I've worn mine for a year plus now and the bracelet is super comfortable. The size of deploying clasp is not even noticeable while you are wearing day to day

5:06 That can be easily fixed by adding a B&J strap 😄

I'd place an order for your modified Seamaster 300M right now. One in blue would also look amazing. Maybe a red triangle? Omega -- please make this happen for us.

Lose the HEV & I would have a Planet Ocean tomorrow,the whole Bond thing on the Seamaster is embarrassing in my opinion,why would a grown up walk around the High St. with a watch that has a gas escape valve & spy motifs on it.
@purangesmith90533 жыл бұрын
I agree it’s a great looker. In fact I think it’s one of the best dial/bezel combos they make. But that helium valve is like a cold sore on the Mona Lisa. Just looks crap and how many people are ever going to the depths to need it. As for the ridiculous clasp, it will still look nice where most watches will live , on display or in a safe. I’m a bit of a omega fan but with all the product placement design led tat creeping into their watches I fear they’re in danger of becoming a bit naff.

I quite like this watch. It's incredibly comfortable and I love the titanium case, aluminum bezel and flat dark brown dial. For me it's not faux patina but rather a restrained faded cream that fits with the utilitarian vibe of the watch. I didn't like this watch until I put it on, then something clicked and I got it.

They go for over £9k now. However they depreciate badly. A year old one offered to me for £5800. My mate was some what disappointed after paying £9k for his.

I have this and love it. Timeless design, wonderful look, feels great too. My wrists are 165mm, so even less, luckily they're quite flat top and bottom then thin in height, so the mesh strap fits great. I know several who have passed or sold theirs due to this though. But it's also a complete strap monster, so my mesh doesn't get most of my wear time. Great review 👍🏻

Totally agree with your points here Adrian. The James Bond connection is a major turn off, but that awful deployant clasp makes it a definite no.

agreed! would be painful to wear that on desktop with that thick deployant clasp

I absolutely love your rendition of the SMP. Matte dials, lume bezel, bright/current lume, lose the He valve “wart”, and update the bracelet to a hybrid of the Speedmaster and PO. Winner, winner- eats Rolex for dinner
@danrussell_official7 ай бұрын
I own this watch now - and I gotta say the gripes over the bracelet are unwarranted. It’s incredibly comfy, the clasp is not too thick. Now granted I have a larger 6 1/4” wrist - maybe on smaller wrists the overlap gets more wonky? Either way - I’d say this is twice as more comfy than an oyster bracelet any day.

having own both, I like the seamaster because the bezel, dial, helium escape valve, bracelet. Everything is different. It is not just another homage to the cookie cutter submariner.

Love your design proposal. I would add a clear case back and that would be a grail watch. I hope Omega listen to their fans. We can always hope.
@davidcrane76033 жыл бұрын
It would be nice if Omega included both clear AND titanium case backs in the kit (so you can swap them at will), AND throw in the NATO strap, for what they're charging for the watch. And perhaps a spring bar tool while they're at it. THAT would be a nice package.

My stainless Seamaster is from about 1950 and I like it so much that I wear it every day. Have for decades. Bought it at a garage sale about 40 years ago for fifty cents. It just needed cleaned and oiled. It still looks like new.

I have the black one and I must say I actually love the HEV. It’s clearly stating that it’s it’s own thing. It’s not trying to be anything else. Clearly it has its own identity and in a market of timepieces where we see a lot of copying I really appreciate the fact that the kept it. Just my two cents.

Splendid review - best I have seen - so much so that I went to see the watch - didn't have one in and the neighbouring jeweller just had NATO strap version. The first jewellers did however source one for me to have a look at - stunning watch and the strap fits me like a glove. I agree with much of what you say - the James Bond part is of no real interest and I appreciate that the only real marking is on the back. The reason that I bought this though was the weight - it is under 100g . I tried the normal steel Seamaster on when I visited the first time as this is a splendid looking watch but the weight was such that you could have used it as a club at an Irish wedding. Unwearable for me. My heaviest watch is my gold Reverso GMT big date auto and that I find quite chunky at 127g. Anyway to cut to the chase, the 300M is now sitting on my wrist as I type this and there partly due to your review - thank you.
