That’s honestly a very competitive service price, considering all they worked on. As for the scratches for me it depends if it adds to the story. If I tripped over my frenchie in the morning and scratched up my explorer I’d be pissed. But if it was cool hiking story I’d feel more connected to the watch as it gained its scars doing what it was designed for. I hope that makes sense.

Good result Adrian, this is in stark contrast to my attempt to have the cracked crystal replaced on my fathers 1987 gold quartz retirement watch, I handed over to the Seiko dealer who sent it off to Seiko Australia. Three months later it came back with a note stating that they were unable to make the watch work again!! I don’t often swear in public, but I did on this occasion as the watch was working perfectly when I handed it over! at this point I think the jeweller actually pooped his pants and disappeared with my watch out the back of his shop, to return 5 minutes later looking very relieved and announcing that the watch was in fact working perfectly! however it still had its cracked crystal..

I've owned a Rolex with a 3130 since new in 2008. I've never serviced it. It's still accurate to around 10spd. I generally don't service my watches unless there is a problem with them. The minute they start to keep time poorly or feel inconsistent when winding, I take them to a watchmaker. I've collected for a long time, and since KZbin I've seen a growing trend for talking about servicing watches, when in reality most don't need to be serviced as regularly as brands or KZbinrs suggest. Obviously...do what you want with your own watches, but that's what I've always done with mine.
