I agree that the packaging looked good to me. As long as the book isn’t damaged the packaging was good enough. I’ve seen gemini mailers bent for sure, an extra cardboard backing goes a long way.
@martin_wilson81 Жыл бұрын
I ship very similar to this, but I also use a bubble mailer in addition to thick cardboard, plus I put packing tape over all of the edges and seams of the manilla envelope. Works like a charm! 1000's of orders shipped this way. Zero damage!
@leerogers5318 Жыл бұрын
It was very well packaged, although not conventional. I have seen even Gemini mailers crushed and bent, but it is rare. The only criticism that I have is that pull tabs on the painter's tape could have been used. Between how the sender packaged it and by sending it first class, I believe the sender took all the necessary precautions.

The packaging looks ok to me. Gemini mailers aren't even available in Canada anymore so I find cheaper but safe alternatives. I like to tape up the manilla envelope to add protection and so far none of my customers have complained.

When I first saw the beginning of this video, I thought for sure it was going to end up having a comic alone and a yellow envelope and nothing else. I was quite surprised by the way it was properly Pawtucket.

I do agree. Although i prefer/use Gemini mailers, if it's done well and i receive book undamaged then i won't hav an issue but if it's not done well and book is damaged then I'll take issue. Like u said though, Gemini is not the End all, Be all

Ok, first of all the packaging technique isn’t too bad. But, BUT!!!!!! If for some reason the envelope ripped open anywhere or you could see the box printings through the envelope and any Postal worker saw that, they could/would set it aside. Then you would get a POSTAGE DUE notice stating how much you owed before you could pick up your book at the PO. It’s because you cannot use Priority Mail packaging in anything or for anything that is not Priority Mail. They will charge you the difference to the charge for Priority Mail. That’s the other drawback to the way they shipped.

It amazes me that USPS gives boxes for free. As a Canadian, Canada Post charges more for boxes than any other place on the planet it seems.
@JernosComicsPopCulture Жыл бұрын
The cost benefit ratio is in their favor because of how much they charge for priority shipping.

There's nothing wrong mailing one or two cheap books only worth a couple bucks with this method, but if they have some value and condition is important, then I identify recommend it. I'm also not a fan of people wasting and essentially stealing TAX payers by cutting up USPS boxes, unless they are already used and being recycled
@JernosComicsPopCulture Жыл бұрын
I agree about the value of book. But I also believe that all books should be treated equal. Even though I only spent 20 bucks on this, it's minty, and if it was damaged, I'd be pissed. As for cutting up USPS boxes, the USPS doesn't receive any taxpayer money. It's an independent entity that is ran by a government appointed board, and is self-funded from their revenue. Though, taxpayer's money did bail them out during the pandemic, but that was a one-time issue.

In my view nothing beats a true comic mailer, regardless of the brand. The multiple folds in multiple directions make them more ridged. I've gotten a silver age comic in layers of cardboard wrapped in bubble wrap in a manilla envelope and it got bent in half along the corrugated line. If you use the usps pancake method, put it in a box for added protection.
@qrock6393 ай бұрын
I gotta say, this packaging might be my go to from now on. I can get Gemini mailers, and I do ship with them alot but I am going to start doing this. Can't beat the price of the boxes!
@PrimeTimeTreasureHunter Жыл бұрын
Great video Chris! The cardboard sandwich technique can work great. I’ve talked about it on my channel for years and shown demos. You just need strong cardboard, proper taping, and good margins. I use Gemini’s but this idea that they are the only way has long been absurd. As you said, they can get damaged too from being bent and moving around inside for singles if not secured properly. The problem with the cardboard sandwich method is mostly time to get and cut the cardboard. Gemini’s can save alot of time. Technically, you are not supposed to use priority mail cardboard for protection unless you ship it priority. That means you really need to get precut pieces of strong cardboard pieces in those situations. The best ones I’ve found are the comic dividers sold by….Gemini. Lol.
@JernosComicsPopCulture Жыл бұрын
Dom! Agreed, 100%! Thanks for stopping by!
@coldwarcomics8823 Жыл бұрын
You greatly increase the strength of sandwiching a comic between two thick sheets of corrugated cardboard if you cut the sheets so that the corrugation on one is 90 degrees turned to the corrugation on the other sheet. It's very difficult to bend a sandwich like that!

I watched a video from Gem Mint Collectibles where his $6000 (around that price) slab was sent with limited bubble wrap in a manila envelope. The slab cracked, but the comic was OK. What's in the mind of a seller shipping that poorly with an expensive book?????

And this is how priority shipping fees keep rising lol
@JernosComicsPopCulture Жыл бұрын
If you actually look at the USPS's revenue versus costs, packeging supplies aren't making a dent. Shipping fees continue to increase because of operating costs (labor, facilities, etc) versus a shrinking customer base because people don't use the USPS mail system like they used to, primarily due to email (standard letters or legal notices are hardly sent via mail anymore) and Amazon, UPS and FedEx for packages.

Dont say cardboard this is USPS and its a crime to, literally, to misuse it like this. Maybe this seller skirts that by shipping priority but I get PLENTY of sellers using two or three of theses boxes per order and its so wasteful and makes me not want to buy again
@JernosComicsPopCulture Жыл бұрын
I respect your opinion, but the point of the video is cardboard. I'm not advocating or focusing on what cardboard they used. Also, I don't believe it is wasteful, because it is still getting used for a purpose, and still can be recycled. For me though, I only ship priority, even if it's just one book.

Don't mess around with shipping. Actually that's not that bad of packing all things considered. I buy a lot of books online and have had some horror packing.I ship Gemini type boxes for raw and slabs. It shows you care about your customer's books. With feedback one guy said it would survive a natural disaster! I figure that I save $$ in the long run by eliminating the drama of returns, and eliminate bad feedback which can mean sales disaster. I've had one damaged package with around 25,000 shipments. The post office had to drop that box multiple times on the corner.
@JernosComicsPopCulture Жыл бұрын
That's a good track record. I will say, there is bad shipping even with Gemini mailers, and it all depends on what the seller does, either with a Gemini or something else.

You got to stop shipping with USPS packaging🤬🤬🤬 wondering why can't people buy shipping material. WTF. Robbing the USPS. Y'all are lucky you don't get charged priority for using the boxes of the USPS. Which is illegal jerno. Read the small prints on the boxes. Please don't do this jerno. I have a career at the USPS as a mailman. These people that use our boxes that are meant to ship in.. not be packing material... Go to the liquor store, Walmart ask for FREE boxes. I love ya still jerno. Keep up the cool content.
@JernosComicsPopCulture Жыл бұрын
Appreciate your honestly and feelings, but this wasn't me doing this, but the seller. There are definitely many other types of boxes and cardboard that can be used, and my point was simply stating that carboard cutouts work. Or people can simply start using priority anyways, especially since first class continues to increase in price.
@Whalewraith Жыл бұрын
If you're buying off ebay and you just found a key book that wasn't making a point out of being a key chances are the seller knows nothing about comics. Just something to bear in mind. I used to love comics as a kid, dropped out of the hobby and dropped back in during covid. When I got back in, none of my books were borded and I was completely unaware of Slabs and grading. (Certified grading that is, we did have the concept of grading) Even back in the day we were years behind in the uk. The few books I had bought claiming to be NM wouldn't have passed FN on today's scale. Needless to say I got up to speed pretty fast but I've seen some tragic shipping in the last few years.
