I didn't mention this in the video. But the flex cable was damaged which is why the front earpiece speaker wasn't working. My customer said it was working before so it was most probably caused by the repair shop. These kinds of practices are far too common, just making sure y'all know what to avoid! 0:46 to explain, they "purposely" left it disconnected so when they came back to repair to them again, they'll say that they need to replace this and such even though they'll only connect it after. And when the client believes that, they'll pay sums for just connecting it even though they'll say "the part has been replaced with a new one". I know it's obvious but forgive me.

That flex can easily be damaged sometimes shops leave them disconnect because the phone will turn on with out it but if it is damaged it can cause the phone to boot loop what I think is more weird or more scammer is the fact that previous shop said back glass was needed when it's just cosmetic.

They're mainly trying to take advantage of the customer's value on time, reliance on the phone, and (presumed) lack of technical knowledge. A customer that's more desperate to have it fixed in a timely manner will be less likely to question or look for a second opinion. Thus the "repair" shop can secretly charge more for less-than-quality work, or dupe the customer into paying for unnecessary "repairs." (This illegal business practice is more prevalent when it comes to auto repair shops with female customers). I once took my laptop in for a monitor replacement (it was new and had cracked due to a fumble onto a table corner). The "repair" guy took it in the back to evaluate, then dared to say there were also "hints of water damage" which would be "another hour to clean out the residue". Plot twist: Water had never been around the device. I declined the offer, took the laptop back home, and went online to purchase my own replacement screen. It may have cost me about 3-4 days of waiting for shipping, but thanks to KZbin tutorials and attention to detail, I managed to save myself $90.00 off the shop's quoted price.

Amazing job as always. It’s also a good practice to give back the damaged earpiece/faceid flex in case he later wants to gain FaceID functionality back again. As you said it’s expensive, but fixable. Back when I didn’t had my TrueTone copier I told my customers to not throw the old display so I could later call them when I got the proper equipment and finish the job. That way you gain their respect. Most repair shops that don’t have that little device tell their customers “hey, you’ll lose this, there’s no way around”.

A lot of shops do this and miss out plates, so when you drop your phone you think it’s broke because a cable popped out, you take it back there and they plug it back in for the cost of a screen 😂 and wait for it to happen again. This is the reason for me starting repairs when I was a teen.

It seems like most repair shops are just not honest, I had an iPhone 7s screen replaced before at a Walmart a couple years ago and found a ton of screws missing or just lying on the inside. Another time was a screen replacement for an iPad mini where they never installed a seal for the home button.

The back glass removal part with the whole back needing replacement I can personally say for what my store does, Not all companies have enough to invest in the giant laser to burn off the back side adhesive so it cheaper for the customer to replace the housing entirely than spend 10+ Hours slowly chipping glass out. Just an FYI from one Phone shop to another
