I love bird hunting and clay shooting. Saying that, I don't enjoy shooting target guns, but rather shoot hunting guns for clays. My current favorite clay gun, which freaks out many shooters, is my Mossberg 940 Pro Turkey 18 1/2 inch with Holoson 507k green dot. I have three Mossberg 940 Pros and enjoy them all. Great choice.

Picked up the 940pro and love it! Only thing I'm going to change is the poly furniture to wood. That gas system gets real hot after you run a full tube. I ran about 4-500 rounds through it in a afternoon and had zero issues.

I've only had Mossberg shotguns. I've tried many brands over the years, but the budget friendly model 500's were hard to beat. Now that I can afford more I've stuck with Mossberg, just really like them. Never had any issues with my 500's, 835's, 930's or 940 pro. There are a lot of great brands out there, i just found one that has worked for me and stick with it. Going on 25 years now since my first one.

You are lucky... failures and parts breaking on these 940 pros left and right. Absolutely ridiculous, at this point the way Mossberg treats their customers and refuses to make these parts that are breaking available to their customers, is the main reason why I will refrain from buying their semi auto guns. These parts that keep breaking with normal wear and tear go to show just how much Mossberg barely tested the durability/strength. You should not have to worry about low brass/high brass, or it being an ounce and a half/one ounce, etc. but yet for some reason this 940 series model of shotgun is still so sensitive to wanting to actually work in the field. RIDICULOUS. We live and learn. I simply cannot buy Mossberg semi auto shotguns after being treated so poorly by a major company like this. But hey glad to hear you are the "lucky one". 🙄

I have a 940, great gun! Fully adjustable for length, cast, and drop; but that was shown in the review. The one thing I do like about the 940 which is seldom demonstrated in reviews is it's ease of unloading. When one is out in the field seems you often need to unload, it's quiet simple with the 940. Stand the shotgun up with the bottom facing away. Slightly push up the carrier with left hand and pull the bolt unloading the chamber with the right hand. Push the carrier all the way in towards the open bolt and press the bolt release button. All the shells in the mag will fly out!

On mostly all repeating shotguns (pumps /autos) there is a tab inside the receiver right by the magazine tube that you can depress and empty the magazine tube without racking the action. Most ppl don’t realize that

@@-B_G- your correct, but on most one must reach inside to push the shell stop while on the 940 the shell stop can be disconnected from the shells by simply pushing the bolt release on the outside of the firearm.

I have 2 Remington V3s. Can’t beat them. They cycle anything and handle heavy recoil like a boss. Same gas system as the Benelli M4. Just a different name. Got a shorter barrel so one doubles as a home defense shotgun and hunting shotgun. The other has a 10 round magazine and can be used for competition. As far as fast, most cannot shoot that fast. I’ve never outran the trigger. Maybe you can, but the average competitive shooter won’t. And I’ve gone 2000 rounds between cleanings and neither missed a beat. I had an SX3 and hate that I sold it. The SX4 was garbage. Sold it after one week. Haven’t shot a 940. Just heard too many bad reviews to spend my money on a hit or miss gun. Thanks for the video! Love watching you shoot!

The sx4 felt like an extension of my arm while the 940 pro felt clunky in comparison. Also the guys from mossberg seemed really anxious about the 940 cycling right. They said it had been shot alot that day and it had malfunctioned a couple times. It worked fine for me but something to ponder. No one was worried about the sx4 cycling.

I have the 18.5" version. The mini slugs and 'buckshot' loads do very well in gel tests. How much more penetration does one need? Even with my short version I fit 10 in the tube. No, it's not as fast as a semi auto, but as Clint Smith says, is it really practical for a self defense shotgun. He says his one semi stays in his safe but his pumps are what he actually uses.

A solid recommendation is based on repeatability, not one-off responses. If the point of the videos is to make recommendations to the 'everyman' then you need to average things out. Hey I've got a question for you. I shoot sporting clays and trap mostly (light loads) and I'm looking for a semi auto shotgun. My thoughts process is find the lightest recoiling shotgun and then fit it to me. I don't care about looks or cycling heavy loads. What would you recommend? Budge would be 1.5k and then perhaps a cheaper option as well? Thank you for your time keep the videos coming.

My first gun was a mossberg 500 20 gauge. Loved that gun and they’re tough. But man their recoil pads suuuuck! And there are nicer guns. I’ve since upgraded to a maxus 2 and a SBE3.

@@Poohflinger123 I installed the Mossberg 930/935 Boron Nitride piston, Mossberg 930/935 oversize charging handle, or3gun marine spacer tube in the multi-use gray. Recently purchased the 940 waterfowl. I noticed in some videos online the 940 waterfowl has a different bolt release than the one I received. My bolt release looks like the ones in this video while I see others online that look more circular. Why is that ?

I have seen them all fail. Currently, I am running the 1301 comp pro. Not for personal preference. Just because it was recommended to me. I have seen that fail. Not mine, but others. I have seen the JM Pro fail. I include user error in those fails. Wonder how the M2 speed compares.

Is anyone else having a problem with there JM Pro 940 bolt release dropping 1 1/2 shells under the floor plate once the bolt release is depressed with the bolt already forward? Someone said this is a future to unload the magazine! If so Mine Blowing incompetence on the part of Mossberg if that’s the case!

Do you know if they make any Field or waterfowl models with the optic cut like the tactical model? I’m really curious to see if Shotguns go through the red dot renaissance like rifles and pistols have. I think there is a good chance they will. I am really curious about it. Enough that I would like to try a round of clays with one day. Being they already produce the receivers with the cut it would be easy to offer a few for sale to see how they sale. Edit: two days after my comment here I ran across a video where Aimpoint has a mount for shotgun ribs now. The video is on TGS outdoor. I believe it’s the s1 sight for shotguns.

@@moobutt I did not say there has not been good American made autos. Quite the contrary. Some of the best have been American made (namely the Remingtons). Mossberg has made a lot of junk autos. Go back 40 years and you’ll see all the different attempts they made. The pumps have always been solid. The newest mossberg autos may in fact be serviceable, but I’m not willing to jump into that pool just yet. Everyone has their brand preferences. I happen to like brownings and Winchesters, both of which are primarily made in Europe or Japan. Nobody I know considers a browning to be a “junk” or “entry” level gun, because they are not. The only Winchester guns I am not crazy about are the Turkish made ones. The SX4 (and SX3, and SX2 for that matter) are rebadged Browning Silvers made in the Browning plant in Portugal. The same plant that builds the Maxus 2 (which is a top tier gun). Mossberg has a lot of catching up to do to even be mentioned among the likes of browning, beretta, benelli, etc. Time will tell. Cheers.
