One of my best memories in SoT involved the Ashen Skull. I was having a PotC moment where my opponent and I boarded each other ships. He had blown various holes in me and was just camping me until I sank. Since I lose in PVP I jumped onto his ship and grabbed the first thing I saw of value. The Ashen Skull. We were near an archway so I intended to hide it there and come back for it after I sank. I ran to the front of his ship to jump off burning everything in my path as I went then spotted a CoL on the bowsprit and swapped the skull for that and swam. Found a nice little nook for the chest underwater and when I came back up my ship had sunk but his was still burning in dramatic fashion. I mermaided back and by the time i returned with my ship, my opponent was being attacked by another ship and sank while I recovered the CoL. That was my first CoL and one of my few heists to go well.

Might be the worst weapon on PvE bosses, but what about against other players? Surprisingly effective, as a vid from Toxie has shown. Still, fun little challenge vid overall. I'm sure the boss was still taking some damage. Just not being set ablaze. Probably because the Shores of Gold Tall Tales were introduced before Firebombs were a thing

Crossing the masts without a lantern is difficult while carrying the ashen skull. Granted when I talked my crew into taking one it was solely to kill the skeletons to get my glow in the dark fishing rod. By the time we reached the gold hoarder it only had enough energy for some minions. Never realized it didn't work on him.

@@CliffTheStoryGuy Yeah well, there was an Ashen Winds world event on Kraken at the time we were sailing from Plunder Outpost. Though just getting the skull had its issues. 3 to 4 ships had to be dealt with ranging from sloops to a brig. One crewmate was inexperienced and was forced into two manning a brig while I remained on the island to fight the boss. The ship almost went down when one of those fights ended up a little too close to a volcano in the roar and both of them got sent to the ferry of the damned. The brig had to be fought after the ship was saved and sailed back for the loot, only to find the brig pulling up to where I'd gathered the loot and hidden the skull. At least with the skull the points where the skellies were attacking left the crew open to turn capstans and get us access to the next area. Wasn't fun when I had to solo those sections weeks prior with endless skellies. Though it is a good option to take one if you are going for the 100 skellies or phantoms killed. Can get most of them easily in the first endless wave area.

I was doing a voyage, and I happened to be on an island with an event where this boss was. I single-handedly defeated him, although it took a lot of time and effort, but luckily the storm helped me in the fight. I maneuvered the ship into the bay to make it easier to retrieve the treasures, and as I was about to retrieve the last chests, another team arrived. I immediately got up from the anchor and started to run, and while I turned the ship around and rested away, the mast was broken 3-4 times. And then I ran away from them all over the map, but in the end I managed to come to an agreement with them, and we made an alliance. I sold everything I collected but was slightly disappointed with the price for that skull as I thought it was just an expensive skull for sale. Well, how was I supposed to know it was a flamethrower?

Cliff, I want to give you a tip for your next video. So try to sink a player ship with a chest of sorrows in the crownnest, or sink an entire skeleton fleet with only chest of soorows.

if i remember, if an Ashen Lord does its fire breath on you, you still take a lot of damage even in water, so it works the same with the ashen winds skull.. So even if it looks like the Gold Hoarder is non-flammable, he's still very 'hurtable'.

On a Fort of Fortune that I did one of the captain's dropped a map for the that fort with an X on the map. I dug where the map said and there was an Ashen Skull... so I got 2 in total from the fort one from Warden Chi and then the dug up one... I got lucky on a dead server.
