Yes, I agree. Prob a monster Bass. If it were a shark, he would not have been catching other big Bass during the same period. They'd be gone!! Cool story.

I had something similar happen to me at Oregon inlet on the outer banks with a 35 pounder . Finally got it in and it was snagged in the belly and was running straight away.

Sounds like a shark to me, I had some drag pullers like you describe back in July on eels. The first one took off on an unstoppable run and my buddies who fish that spot kept saying it had to be mid to high 50lb class and I started shaking. Took me almost 200 yds out on the VSX200 and I lost it after close to 5 minutes of stalemate. My reel was steaming from the locked drag in cool water. The next week I came back with a heavier rod and heavier leader and didn't let them get away this time, turns out they were 5-7ft brown sharks. Unlike another commenter mentioned, these sharks were mixed in with low 30lb class fish because I landed a nice cow between the two big sharks I hooked that night. I think the sharks find a school of larger bass and shadow them in case they get an opportunity to pounce. This was south of you, but I'd imagine you could run into juvenile white sharks, makos, and porbeagles up by you. But let's agree that it was a foul hooked 60!

It definitely is a possibility but in the spot I was fishing it was unlikely a brown shark. We do have porbeagles, Makos, and white shark but the thing that makes me feel like it was a bass is how it was fighting. Bass have such a distinct speed and rhythm to how they run and it felt a lot like a bass.

Also the NLBN is super they hold up really well I had a dozen Stripers on the 5" to 30+ inches with no issue bait got a little rough but was intact however the 13th fish was a Blue so end of that bait lol..Keep the videos coming tight lines..

That short video clip at 1:30 of the tarpon was awesome. Heres a great fish story for ya. Halloween night 1995 or 1996 i cant remember what year, but it was halloween, i was chunking fresh cut bunker off tobay beach and i guess i was in the right place at the right time, 3 bass on 3 consecutive casts that were 55 lbs each. All released alive.12 ft ugly stick big water rod, penn squidder 140 reel and 40 lb mono. Unfortunately it was a few years before cell phone cameras, so no pics. I had a pager then. Lol. Ill never have a night like that again!

I will say I was skeptical at first with trying out the NLBN. However, once I gave them a try I was pleasantly surprised at how well they worked. They absolutely slay here in NJ particularly at inlet fishing. Countless 20-40 pound class fish in the spring and so far this fall since early October 30 pound class fish.. They sure work. Also how does that Century Weapon 9’ foot work with these ? Am I wrong is saying the tip section of that rod is a bit soft working lures like jigs or other lures that have more drag through the water? I like the rods rating and feel it could be useful.

What weight heads did you use? He mentioned 1/4 and 1/2 but that sounds lite to me w such a big plastic. Thanks!!
@davidprice1339
@davidprice1339 9 ай бұрын
The weight of the head really depends. I live in NJ and typically use these in inlets with fast moving water, I’ll place them on 1oz around slack water and use 1.5-3oz with current. I fished a rock ledge this past summer in Rhode Island and had bass over 40inches using these ( placed plastic on 3/4 and 1oz heads). The current in the spot I fished moves but not anywhere like an inlet and the water was really deep so I wanted something that would sink slowly and would then hold in the strike zone with a very slow retrieve. You have to consider these plastics are fairly wide and have a lot of rubber thus, they will catch more current and just have more buoyancy. This will allow you to factor in the head size for your spot. Also dont forget your leader length and pound test, longer and heavier leaders in areas of current can affect head size. Play around and experiment. Hope this helps.

The weapon is a powerful rod I would say it handles it pretty good up to a half ounce but definitely upper limit.

i hooked on to a fish like that long ago, it took off in a straight line out to sea would not stop, would not change direction, i was about to get spooled when i decided to tighten the drag and try to fight it. my line snapped as if i caught a damn submarine...since then i upgraded to 80lbs braid and a bigger reel with 65lbs of drag, in case i catch that monster again

What is the weight of your Jigheads for 8" one? There are 4 options of 8" JIGHEADS weight. I would like to buy as same as your one: 3/4oz, 1oz, 1 1/2oz, and 2oz. Which one did you buy?

I fish the 3/4oz jig head on the 5in from shore with 30# braid but the bait feels super heavy i wish they made 1/2oz or 3/8th oz jig head in the 5in model not the 3inch model

Man I’m so curious about what it was. It must have been a shark. The comparison you made with the 50lbs running 20 yards with a VS150 would make no sense for a Stripper to run 150 yards with a VS200. Amazing story.

That’s the thing it sucks that I will never know but I still lean towards it being a bass. Because bass have such a distinct speed and rhythm to how they run and it felt a lot like a bass.

I really wish you could be preaching the presentation of this style lure, not the brand. Do not get me wrong, NLBN is a nice wide-bodied plastic, but one of many wide-body options out there. Folks who understand when and where these types of lures are used, will be rewarded when they try an NLBN, but will be able to present it most effectively knowing the overarching concepts of how this 'type' of lure is used. Good story, sorry, just getting tired of what is happening here....education vs promotion.

Same here and I prefer vids on techniques and tools not brands. Just glad he hasn’t resorted to bad clickbait titles like “this one lure caught all the fish” or something garbage like that.
