What does your paddletail lure look like moving through the water?
This is important because how you present your lure could be the difference between you catching a ton of fish and getting skunked!
So in this new underwater footage, you’ll see a comparison between different paddletails and how their shape changes the action of the lure.
Check it out!!
Do you know when to change up your paddletail?

On hot seasons , I match my retrieve speed with the speed of the currents , wether it's a bit faster or slower than the currents until i get a bite , so from there we'll know what the fish wants for the day. While during wet seasons , i'll slow it down with steady retrieve , if it still doesn't get any response.... I change tactics , that's hop, pause and let it sits for 2,3, or 4 seconds... keep doing it until i get a bite. That all seems to work for me, sorry for bad grammar , have a wonderful day , mate.

i am not a total “novice” angler, grew up fishing with my dad, but definitely a not-highly-experienced angler either, and just restarted fishing again recently. Cool video! I have been wondering about this. Ok now how about a similar type video comparing different types of lure tale actions using same hook? paddletail vs wedge vs straight fluke vs split fluke vs grub or wirly tail? lol... they all catch fish! And yet I still wonder, why? how? Anyways I understand that would be a much larger production time so no worries if yall never do it. Or maybe they already did?

Great demo Tony. Could you do an update video where we can see how heavier weighted hook changes the action of the lure? The pool videos are a great way for novice anglers like myself to get an idea on how to retrieve the lures. Keep up the great work. Glad to be a part of the insider team as well.

Don't forget that salt water is more dense than fresh water. That should help with the action.

Do you prefer a weighted hook over a jig head ? I rarely fish the weighted hooks but I'll start if they perform better than a jig
@TheBigghunter01
@TheBigghunter01 2 жыл бұрын
In shallow water and in structure i love the weighted hook because it stays shallow and weedless. Z-man makes a texas eye jighead that is attached to a weedless hook if you need to fish deeper water around structure

If we don’t have any weighted hooks handy is it a deal breaker for the Slam Shady to use a non-weighted? 😬

I fish the Ohio River right into the flood gates releasing water. Watchung this reminds me I should use paddle tails vs flukes due to the action while the turbulence throws the bait around. That said, in a wide gate with ? A few thousand GPS boiling through, would you recommend the slower tail or the faster ? And, I've tried Carolina with the egg sinker above the swivel and with the sinker at the jig head. Which sinker placement would you prefer? Thanks!

@Salt Strong Do you have any tips for putting the Zman plastics on the screw lock swimbait hook? I can never get them to go on screw locks... the plastic just twists around instead of the screw actually going in.

The key is to really push the spring into the front of the bait. With decent pressure pushing the spring into the front of the soft bait so is fully surrounded, then pinch it, then twist it. You may catch your finger with the spring or have an uneven bait until you get the pinch pressure right, but it should screw in. I like the owner twistlocks with the centering pin, makes everything a lot easier to get right the first time every time--you can even by the twist lock springs with center pins by themselves and upgrade your hooks.

Hey Tony! in your opinion which paddle tail brand gives of the most vibration? looking at striper fishing
@Saltstrong
@Saltstrong 9 ай бұрын
Not so much brand but the size of the paddletail (and the tail itself). 5” paddletails tend to have a wider tail on them and give off more vibration.

Are you referring to this video?: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXOao3Wfo65ri7s If yes, what in particular did you not agree with?
@TheJizzypickle

@Salt Strong You start that video off saying you shouldn't use popping corks inshore fishing. Every tool excells at it's particular purpose. In places where there is submerged grass like much of Louisiana the popping will float your bait just above the grass and keep you from getting snagged in grass every cast. Also if you want to keep a bait near jetti walls for sheepshead it allows you to fish right up against the rocks without getting snagged like a bottom bait would. I'm Not saying a cork is always better than a jig head but There are many situations where a popping cork will outfish that jig head and get snagged a lot less.
@Saltstrong
@Saltstrong 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheJizzypickle I think you and Tony are actually on the same page when it comes to when to use popping corks and when not to use them... in the video, he said that he's not against popping corks, and he then went on to explain situations when they shouldn't be used (mostly clear and calm water). The situations you explained are all great examples of when you should use popping corks, and none of them contradicted the examples Tony specified for not using them... seems like the mistake Tony made was just not being clear enough about the fact that there certainly are situations where popping corks should be used. Thanks so much for the helpful feedback... we are always looking for ways to improve.
