Good one boys It's interesting to note, that The Beatles kept on saying how these guys were such a major influence on both their songwriting and especially on their entire vocal approach. Over the years, they repeatedly mentioned how hard they worked on trying to sound just like them, with this really close two-part vocal harmony sound. If you think about it, that may be the very essence of the Beatle sound itself, that two-part vocal sound. Simon and Garfunkel said almost the same thing. So these dudes weren't just some flash in the pan. They were a very important foundational piece of what would come after in so many ways. It's a myth that it was banned in Boston. I grew up five miles north of Boston and it got tons of airplay on all the major radio stations. The city never banned the song. What actually happened was that the Cardinal Cushing, the Archbishop of Boston, did attempt to stop radio stations from playing the song, taking out full page ads in Boston newspapers condemning the song. His campaign against the song actually had little effect. I listened mostly to the four biggest stations that played top 40 hits and none stopped playing the song. I did learn later that there were less than a handful of smaller local stations in eastern Massachusetts that did actually stop playing it, and a few disc jockeys that refused to play it on their shows, but that was voluntary, the song was never banned anywhere in the Boston area or in Massachusetts.

What I really appreciate and enjoy about you guys is that you don't interrupt the songs. So many other reaction channels repeatedly pause the songs and it kills the flow. You listen in one shot which gives you a good feel for the song and then give thoughtful reactions. Well done.

OMG ... I loved that this song won the survey. My Dad had that album (with that cover) I grew up listening to this album in the early sixties through seventies. I still have the album and I probably remember every song on that album. So glad you liked it!

This is one of the first songs I remember as kid. 1950's R&R and Rockabilly was dope. I'm 75 and a musician. I've never use the term "dope" before, but I reckon I might have done some....(:

There’s a ton of other Everly Brothers songs that really are iconic and influenced tons of later artists in rock (they were part of the rockabilly pioneers along with Buddy Holly, early Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc.), country and pop. Also beeeyoootiful harmonies. Recommend Bird Dog; Cathy’s Clown (their biggest hit); Bye, By, Love; Let It Be Me; Walk Right Back and many more.

This was one of the first songs I remember loving and buying the single with my allowance. I remember listening to it on the radio as my mom was driving me to summer camp. 😁

THIS was my mom and dad's song! It had actually happened to them (fell asleep at the drive-in movie) when they were dating in the 50's. Man, how many times had I heard one or the other of them sing it to the other.....

You need to check out "Hey Schoolgirl" by Tom & Jerry, which is the name Simon & Garfunkel went by before they became Simon & Garfunkel.

“The song is written from the point of view of a high school boy to his girlfriend, Susie. In the song, the two go out on a date to a drive-in theater only to fall asleep during the movie. They do not wake up until 4 o'clock in the morning, well after her 10 o'clock curfew. They then contemplate the reactions of her parents and their friends. The boy fears that having stayed out so late, they've both now lost their good reputations.”

I think that they fell asleep at a Drive in theater. They were very big in the 50s and 60s. I saw a lot of movies with my parents at those, and often fell asleep in the back seat.
