There's no doubt that Lorna Shore's music is a playground of vocal technique, and basically a candy store for vocal coaches and vocal enthusiasts. And Lorna Shore has written some of the best deathcore bangers in the past few years. All that being said, by the time I got to the end of this song I was pretty over it. But hey, we all like different stuff and if you love "Welcome Back, O SLeeping Dreamer" then I say enjoy every brutal second of it!

Re: the torsion of the false folds, there's actually an Italian band (I forget the name unfortunately) whose vocalist is also a phonetician, and he made at least one laryngoscope video of himself doing a one-take of one of their songs. I remember stumbling across it just after the Operation Throat Cam video, and his false folds remained straight. Now I get that a sample size of 2 isn't a solid basis for any kind of conclusion, but eh, it's something. I'll keep digging and post the title here, but maybe you'll have more luck.

Soulless Existence is amazing. I commented somewhere before that one could easily imagine that Soulless Existence is a "solo" song from Will, and he worked with the guys from Lorna Shore who provided instrumentals...to support Will's vocals. It's a duet from Adam and Will, and the guitar having equal prominence means that we don't get a bursty solo in a few snatched seconds as is more the norm. It's just fantastic songwriting, musicianship and arrangement. The chord progression and melody are some of the most amazing in any genre, never mind one this deep in metal; it's simply beautiful. It's currently vying for spot of favorite song, for me.

Will's vocals on this are obviously incredible, and these analysis videos are super helpful, so I'm happy to see another one of these, but I'm also glad you were honest about the song being a bit tired towards the end. I did a written "review" as I listened to the album, and I remember noting that several of the additional breakdowns were a bit overkill and started to pull their respective songs down. That said, these guys obviously know what they're doing, considering their success, so I can't judge, haha

@@AgainstTheeWickedlyMusic I think the additional breakdowns work better for a live audience then they do when listening to a song on demand, same with the instrumental openings, I normally skip forward through them if i'm listening whilst I'm cooking or something. So I can understand how when listening to the songs a lot the additional breakdowns can begin to feel a bit much.

I'm actually not so surprised that you were "...pretty over it" by the end of the song because of how Lorna Shore decided to write this particular song. Moreover, I got the impression from watching your reactions to their music videos--and Will's one-take videos--that you overall became, shall we say, less enamored with each of their releases since hearing "To the Hellfire"? I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that you enjoyed that one the most, and certainly for good reason. I love that song, but I also know the band just answered "yes" to the question of how many breakdowns they wanted to use in that song. I agree to an extent that the breakdowns become less impactful the more often they use them in a song; that being said, there are certainly songs where there's really only one quick breakdown and they move on. I don't mind how Lorna Shore's music have become noticeably formulaic, but I certainly understand the position of those who are over it. I've seen people comment that apparently the band are going to change things up for the next album, and it's rumored that Will may even include some singing here and there. Granted, I haven't heard the whole pantheon of deathcore, but it's my understanding that Kyle Anderson was one of the first deathcore vocalists to include some singing (well, it's the chorus, really) in the band's song, "Exodus." I hope that Lorna Shore's new album will rekindle the Hellfire felt from that impactful music video. Regarding the question of whether the apparent lyrics that a choir sings in Lorna Shore's songs have any meaning, I think they definitely choose meaningful text for the lyrics. The Latin in this particular song doesn't sound like any liturgical text I'm familiar with (I sing a lot of Latin in the choirs I sing with), so I'm sure the text compliments the thematic elements of the English lyrics. I do wish Lorna Shore would include the Latin (and Greek; more on that in a moment!) text in the lyrics that are shown in the booklet and streaming services; I think it would be very cool to check out what they mean. So, as for the Greek text, one of the first things I noticed about their song, "Sun//Eater" was that they recorded a children's/youth choir sing the text "Kyrie Eleison," which as you may know is Greek for "Lord have mercy," and is used in the Mass Ordinary. Furthermore--and interestingly--the choir doesn't sing the followup sentence, "Christe Eleison," and I think you can make an accurate guess as to what that means. Rather, the kids sing "Domine," which is Latin for "Lord." I think that text is appropriate for the thematic elements of "Sun//Eater"'s lyrics, but I'll spare everyone my analysis of that. Lastly, I think Lorna Shore do hire choral singers to record for their songs; and I suspect this to be the case because the singers in the choir aren't always rhythmically aligned (so many words for "sloppy"); this is especially noticeable in the song, "Immortal." I hear the choir being a little rhythmically sloppy in "Welcome Back, O Sleeping Dreamer" as well. My guess is that no one was conducting them while they were recording--but, let's be real--singers tend to suck when it comes to rhythm. All in all, the rhythmic inconsistencies from the choir confirm to me that they're not digital. I'm glad you still enjoyed Will's vocals despite you not liking the breakdowns that ended up just being a part of the verses of the song. I really appreciate the lessons and analyses that you gave us, even though the song didn't do much for you as a whole. Thank you for your professionalism; it's one of the many reasons why I enjoy your videos and your takes and lessons. I look forward to your eventual analysis of a song by Disembodied Tyrant & Synestia. I think you'll enjoy it! I recommend "I, the Devourer." And any song from Disembodied Tyrant's EP "The Divine Stigmata" is also fantastic (though I think you'd probably enjoy "Reincarnation" the most from that). I think a reaction of a Van Canto song would also be fun for you; their cover of Metallica's "Battery" is especially cool, I think. Much love to you, Mark. Thank you for the great content!

Amazing content in this channel and I like how you explain the techniques used in order to achieve the differente types of scream. One thing I haven't seen from anyone on the web is the variations of the baselines of a false chord or fry. So basically what I mean, is when you explain how a screan or noise is created you are spot on the gesticulation, tongue placement y base line technique, but you never mentioned the technique on the base line that gives the proper tone, texture and compression to the output of the false chord itself before modifying in your mouth. This information would definetly help if we were to immitate the voice and not just make the right noise, in this case, Will's voice, and many of us may for example, make a gutural sound right, sound like it should, but never make it sound like Will's because the base line is different. At this point I'm not sure if some of us just can't achive the same sound or it's simply genetic. I appreciate what you do, I hope you read this and provide inputs. Regards,

There are other songs on the album i really like too, those just dip into different waters - are more experimental (what i apprecciate by all means). so if i would've to recommend a song to someone who wants to know Lorna Shore it would be this one 100%

iirc in an interview with Will he mentions that they wrote this song with the intention of it being fkn extreme and bombastic as it is the first song on the Pain Remains record and they wanted people to know what they were getting into. I feel like that answers why theres so many breakdowns in this one alone and although i absolutely love filthy ass breakdowns, having too many can be a detriment to a song. still sounds good just wont be as impactful as you say.

But if its up to me, I'm always ordering Banana Cream........which is black tongue

Totally just paused it in the middle of his Legendary BLEGH at the beginning and skipped past it, he could have talked about that for 5 mins lol. Probably my favorite part haha

i came here to say that i could not do the tongue thing, and i was so envious of others that could, i spent 3 years practicing for 20mins 2x a day and i can finally say that after years of consistent effort and determination that i am still unable to do it.

Dudeeee, completely agree about the breakdowns thing. I’ve found myself really falling out of love with core genres in general very shortly after getting into them because other genres deliver their art in more creative way. I feel like once you’ve heard 3-4 breakdowns, you’ve heard them all, and it makes songs feel kind of sloppy and predictable. Though I think he shared his opinion poorly (from what I know), I find myself aligning with Travis Ryan’s opinion of deathcore more and more… If anyone else feels this way, I recommend checking out bands like Infant Annihilator, Rings of Saturn, Black Tongue, and the recent Shadow of Intent album who imo have a refreshing, creative, and coherent take on deathcore.

And who does the orchestration? no love? It's really big part of their composition. I don't even remember his name but he is rhythm guitarist. how does this affect my life, particular sonk. *I put this on every morning when walking to bus stop and there is "WAKE UP!" dude i'm trying 🙂
