For my Presets visit: johnnathancordy.gumroad.com/ I was on a Skype call with Paul, and this came up in conversation, so I thought this might be useful to Paul and a couple of others - here's a small piece of musical information that is useful all around the scale, so is instantly applicable! Spread triads with a 9 instead of a 3rd...

Get my PADs bundle here: www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr... (this folder will grow, and I'd encourage you to ask for different keys/songs and stuff that might suit this type of preset?)
I've decided to make it possible to grab both my Helix/HX Stomp bundles (the expression bundle with freeze presets has always been separate) together for £5 - www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr... - I will then email you a link to both bundles!
Try my general patches for Helix or HX Stomp in this bundle for £3 using this link - I will then send out the patches! www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr...

Dude you are a deadset legend, this has instantly made me a better player! Such a simple idea, hit the ninth and utilise different locations of key notes. Almost feels like cheating it just instantly sounds more musical. Can't thank you enough man, great vid

I also appreciate your lesson videos like this one. And I could listen to you play for hours. Glad to see your star rising. Peace.

Thank you for this - cool stuff. I’ve played repeated intervals for years but never thought of it in the way you’re describing. IE - 1 to 5 to 9 is the same as up a perfect 5th and up another perfect 5th. Consecutive perfect fifths or fourths have been something I’ve done for a while (and poorly lately, lol). Same goes for moving in perfect fourths (but only works on the minor stuff - that flat 7 ends up in there). Side note: I don’t remember all intervals well these days. But I know them in a blink when I see a fretboard - thankfully your fretboard is visible to me as I typed this, lol.

"Closer to the mediocrity we'd become accustomed to." 🤣Fabulous sound as usual John. A genuine question - how long did it take you to work that sequence out? Obviously you chose your backing track, and you know you're going to use spread triads. But with those decisions made, how long did it take you to work out that solo - or does this just materialise in your mind as you play to the track? Either way, I'd be chuffed to bits if I could play like that!

Oh zero time it's just improvising with the concept in the video bit that was filmed before?

Exactly the question I wanted to ask! So glad to know it's sbout comfort on the fretboard and not memorizing licks. Terrific and lovely improv. I'm just a tad jealous. Thank yoy for your work.

Great lesson! The bit around 7:50 kind of reminded me of Message in a Bottle. Here’s a question you could cover. Is there a reason you always work in the major key? I feel like for people with more of a rock/blues background, operating in the relative minor key is more comfortable.
@johnnathancordy
@johnnathancordy 2 жыл бұрын
Yeh - because when people say Minor - it doesn't really mean what people think most of the time. I would refer to things as being in a Minor Key ONLY if they had the raised 7th - think Harmonic Minor or Melodic Minor (so a tune like Still got the Blues For You or Parisienne Walkways) Does that make any sense to you?
@jessenicholson1777
@jessenicholson1777 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnnathancordy interesting. I guess in the end its really more about the progression you're playing over that determines if it's a major or minor tonality. I suppose it's just the way I was taught, with everything relative to minor. I have to always do some thinking to make sense of things relative to major. But to your point, even when playing major the raised 7th tends to not be featured so to me if I'm going for a major tonality my mind wants to take me to Mixolydian, which I think of as minor with a raised 3rd and 6th.
