Now for something completely different!
Josh offered me a chance to drive his bonkers daily. An Audi A3 3.2 4Motion, this car has been almost completely stripped and had a BorgWarner turbo fitted. With 1 bar of boost, power is up to 435bhp. Dominating the experience however is a screamer pipe poking out the front and a straight through exhaust.

Pirate 4x4 have an excellent writeup of how seats and harnesses should be installed. The forces involved in a crash with a harness are absolutely insane and tiny differences can over double the force exerted on a body part. I love the car but they way the harnesses are mounted would near 100% destroy your back and shoulders in a crash.

I done get the Audi/VW VS BMW thing, it’s possible to like both... and me and a couple of good friends all do, we all have both. They’re different cars but all excellent in their own ways. BTW, that Audi is mental, personally I’d prefer it with it’s interior intact and no extra holes in the exterior because I’m boring like that but I could definitely get used to that turbo 3.2!

....once upon a time....in one Audi showroom full of racing cars...there was accidentally left Audi A8 next to Audi Quattro S1 over night....an affair happened in dark....and 9 months later a small blue Audi A3 was born...it was very cute, everybody loved it.... but there was something a bit strange about it as well...it kept heritage of fury underneath of its baby skin...

The cheaper and sleeper alternative to the golf R32. Only thing I hate with this engine is the running costs. Around £500 Road tax and possibly around 20 - 30mpg. The sound and power would draw it to me though.

The Audi, whilst obviously to the owner's liking, is, to my way of thinking, far too much of a point and squirt machine. My preference is for light, nimble cars that provide enjoyment through the twisty bits, rather than blistering acceleration on the straights. +MrKeyboardCommando He's fine. The Audi went around corners pretty well, as alluded to in the video it is the funky weight distribution which doesn't help on slippy days, the whole car sits on the front and the rear end felt quite loose

It's an exhaust from the turbo essentially. Rather than diverting air from the wastegate into the exhaust it sends it straight out. More efficient, but very noisy and not emissions friendly

Audi has quattro and volkswagen has 4motion but both of them are the same transvers engine layout uses haldex rear diff longitudinal engine layout used to have torsen diff but they also use crown gear diff and some other diff layouts as well

O and haldex is used industry world wide I massive machinery is amazingly good and the drive converted through hybrolic pressure means things don’t break easy . U push 600 800 hours through that car drive train and for 10 k your be sowing up super biult . This moment in time a good 12 k build would be the cheapest useable super car killer in the Uk 🇬🇧 Numskulls

+Sean Norton 1. I changed just before several times, no point in banging off the limiter 2. It certainly is in the damp! 3. You'll have to ask the car 4. I was expecting it to be louder on full throttle, its basically the same volume as on idle. Also, loads of cars are too loud for track. 5. +Sean Norton Because it was surprisingly docile? When you have a car which is quite front heavy when you're on the power or trying to turn into a corner they tend to understeer. When you lift off there isn't much on the rear so it will wiggle. Have you driven the car?

Also the 3” straight through exhaust you pointed to is the cars induction kit which leads to the ‘speed holes’ which are there as the hose sits right behind the bumper

It’s easy to mistake the 4motion stuff for Quattro. This car is a golf underneath anyway and from a little bit of googling the systems are basically the same (in transverse configuration on the A3 and golf of the same generation). Also who cares about the exhaust? Sure it’s a bit unnecessary but it’s not hurting anyone and isn’t dangerous. Reviews of people modified cars are way more interesting anyway and always show how much fun you can have on a budget while highlighting the compromises that one has to make when money isn’t unlimited.
