As someone who as been attacked by two pitbulls, if treated right they are the most caring animals in the world. The first dog? Got fed meth instead of food half the time. I was 4 and went “ooo puppy” and got attacked. The second? I was jumping around and accidentally slapped it cause I was waving my arms around. My fault, not the dogs. They were defending themselves and they didn’t attempt to rip my arm off, it was a warning bite that was to close so it snagged just under my eye. You know what a pitbull also did to me? Protected and loved me. My family’s own pitbull from when I was 4 would take care and watch me and make sure I wasn’t hurt. When we had difficulty cleaning wounds from the first attack she would attempt to clean it for me. When I lost a toy she would go out and either find that toy or find another. Kosher was a second mother to me and would never hurt me or anyone else. Pitbulls were nanny dogs, they would protect children with their life. It’s not their fault abusive assholes chose to target that breed for cage fighting. It’s not their fault they are some of the commonly mistreated dogs in the world.

I have PTSD and my dog isn’t a service dog or a therapy dog. I don’t take him out in public with me, but when I’m having a panic attack or even just a bad day, he comes and let’s me hold him while I cry. He’s seen me at my worst and chose to sit with me over playing with his toys or eating food and that is why I love my dog. That’s why I say he’s my best friend. That being said, growing up, I had a sibling who was very afraid of dogs and still kind of is to this day. They don’t seem to mind my dog because he’s small and quiet, but I would never judge them even if they didn’t like my own dog because what matters it that /I/ love my dog and I’m happy to say he’s mine.

So my dog was next to me just chilling and the ending video of Chica plays. She doesn't have a reaction at all until Chica barks and my dog, Zoey, her head pops up. So I turn the screen to her and she looked at it and I replay it for her and she just tilts her head back and forth watching Chica and it was just the cutest thing I ever saw. I have two pit bulls. One is legit laying on me and licking my hand right now. The other one is at the end of the bed taking a nap. Sure, Bentley (the one licking me) can pull me and jump up, but he wants attention and isn’t gonna bite. Honestly, he loves me and isn’t good with new people. Neither of them are, but they just hide from the person instead of attacking. It depends on how you raise them.

I feel like part of the problem with dog lovers not liking cats is that they approach cats like dogs Like you can come up to a friendly dog and give em scratches on the ear, and rub their faces, and most won't really care, they understand that you're being friendly and they actually enjoy the attention ON THE OTHER HAND. Cats are kinda like that really nice girl you desperately want to approach but you're like 95% sure she'll just like reject you outright, or like trying to engage a person that's incredibly introverted-- *It's your approach that matters.* You can't really just walk up to a cat and start like squishing their face or something, most DO NOT like it and most or the time people just like, pet too hard. Just show them that you're not a threat, offer them your hand to sniff or offer them some food AT A DISTANCE and let them come to you. Believe me, most cats want to be your friend, they just don't know you yet. They are famous for their curiosity, so just let them be curious about you in their own subtle little way.

I'm a huge cat person who kinda likes dogs but mostly only specific dogs but I 100% agree with Mark on all of this. I've met a lot of bad dog owners who are too obsessed or who don't train their dogs but dogs are not inherently bad and there's no reason to hate on them like this. However cat-hating does seem to be a trend among a lot of dog-lovers (not all but quite a few) and that's not okay either.

Over a decade ago, I had to call an ambulance for a friend I was staying with when I found him really, really sick and disoriented. He didn't make it unfortunately. But the one good thing that had come from that tragedy is my dog, who I adopted from him after he passed away. My pup has helped me survive some awful situations from an alcoholic roommate, to other tragedies in my family, and with me personally. I spent a lot of time with him, and trained him, and he has been with me ever since. Now he's old, and gray, but happy. A retired emotional support animal. He means the world to me. Irresponsible dog owners piss me off to no end, and I see them everywhere not properly feeding their animals, not picking up after them, exposing them to second hand smoke (tobacco and pot; THC is toxic to dogs and causes permanent neurological damage), not grooming them properly, or generally treating them badly. Ignorance isn't an excuse for being a shitty dog owner.

THANK. YOU. Service dogs are a NEED. Sooo many people go online and buy these service dog vests and are like “yeah my service dog is registered” or “my service dog is certified” LIKE HONEY THERE IS NO SUCH THING. I’ve had sooo many dogs lunge and bark at my service dog IN WALMART, which is NOT pet friendly. Each of these dogs have a vest on that says “service dog” and are in the freaking shopping cart. Which is illegal. They then proceed to show everyone their dogs “certification” (which again, is not real) and just keep on going. Anyways I’m babbling. It’s just so common now for people to fake service dogs just to bring their dog everywhere, and it makes real service dog handlers suffer a great deal! So thanks for bringing some attention to that❤️

Completely true. Had a guy come in to the cinema where I work with a "service dog." It had the vest and all that and the guy INSISTED he needed this dog. The dog proceeded to poop all up and down the isles in the theatre, then when we asked the guy to clean it up, he just smeared it into the carpet. We cleaned and sprayed air freshener multiple times but it reeked in that specific theatre for quite some time.

The sheer amount of false service dogs I've seen, god. I love real service dogs, and am adamant about leaving them and their owners be (so many people see a dog and decide they NEED to pet it, it's a service dog, lad, back the hell off). Cynthia Landry yeah. Tho I would be careful because sometimes service dogs can make anxiety worse. You have a ton of people constantly trying to pet them, asking you questions, being incredibly rude, kicking you out, staring at you (like 24/7 ppl r staring) and it’s just crazy tbh. I honestly hate that part of it. So I’d just be careful lol. If you need one (not for emotional support they have to perform tasks for a disability) then I’d research the laws! Those will be your life saver. Literally know those inside and out. We slept on the floor in the living room and I woke up with one of her dogs curled up behind my back and the other had wiggled between my arms in the middle of the night. As we all should, dogs aren't born "bad" they are usually made that way, whether it would be by unfair treatment or just none at all, if they don't feel safe in their environment they aren't going to know any better because that's how they have always known. If we give our dogs love and care, train them the way dogs should be trained, then there is no reason for them to act in an aggressive nature. It's as simple as that 😊 Dogs are a blessing ❤

Just because cats aren't as excitable as dogs (which I perfer) doesn't mean that they don't show affection. Anytime I walked into my parents house their cat would run to the front door to say hi and rub on my leg, it was the sweetest thing. A person is lying to themselves if they claim that cats don't show affection. It's pretty obvious that they do, it's just different and they're not energetic about it like dogs. Personally I cannot stand the overly energetic behavior that many dogs tend to have. I find it instantly *VERY* aggravating, to say the least. Dogs don't seem to understand personal boundaries, and owners frequently don't try to do anything to control them. To me that's not acceptable.

yeah dogs do that with each other too, if they are playing and accidentally hurt each other. So, if you ever accidentally hurt your dog (stepping on them or smth) it's likely that if you act with remorse (stop and pet them, etc) they will understand that it was an accident.

It's because the opposite of r/dogfree aka people obsessed about dogs and assuming anyone who doesn't is evil/crazy is socially acceptable. It comes from the frustration of the neighbors dogs barking non-stop, random dogs with their dumb owners who don't leash them chasing you or even climbing up to you and dirtying your clothes. It comes from people just letting their dogs close to anyone because they assume everyone wants and loves their dog and then get offended when some people want nothing to do with them. Why can't people just dislike dogs? Honestly the reaction people show to this small subreddit just shows how obsessed society is with dogs. I don't even have reddit but I took a look at the page and this is just....dumb. And before you say "you hate dogs" I don't like them. Minature horses are used as service animals along with dogs, they are the only other animal allowed to be certified if no allergies exist. They are the animal that is provided for no cost compared to a service dog which is sold at age 2 around 2,000-15,000$ Mini horses also live longer and are for a certain kind of people! Their bci ranges around the same as a large canine. Mini horses are great service animals! I posted this to spread the love for our large herbivore dog babies. 💕

Depends on the organisation providing the service dog on the cost. Guide Dogs charge new owners a fee of fifty pence because thy aren't legally allowed to just give the dog to them for no cost They are then provided for by the organisation with food and other care costs. This makes it so that the financial status of a partially sighted or blind person doesn't prevent them from getting the assistance from a dog that will allow them to live a better quality of life. :) Just thought i'd add that for anyone interested. It's awesome that miniature horses are able to service people when trained too! I bet it gets annoying for the owner sometimes though, since the public would likely interact with a working horse quite a bit as it's not something that's seen often.

The reason some dog lovers hate cats is because they treat cats as if they would treat a dog. But cats are so different from dogs that treating them like they're the same animal will never work. Cats are basically the introverted friend that prefer to chill rather than play all the time, but will still enjoy the company of a hooman. Doggos are the extroverted buds, extremely friendly and ready and excited to do anything. Both of them however, will always enjoy a good head scritch. EDIT: there will always be exceptions to this. some dogs like to just chill all the time, and some cats like to play fetch. it's a good idea to do research on any kind of animal! That way misconceptions and judgement can be mitigated.

A friend of mine, who was the most sweet and hilarious friend I ever had, used to have a pitbull. He took her when she was still a pup and she was the sweetest thing ever. Every time she saw me she would start jumping around and getting up on two legs as if to ask for pats or food, rarely barked and never hurt anyone. My neighbours, whom I hate because they're pieces of shit, have a pitbull and another dog that isn't a specific breed. The pitbull, who is a piece of shit, exactly like my neighbours, attacked my dogs many times and almost blinded one of my dog's left eye. They keep them in their garden (like, a quarter of it or something close), never spend time with them and more.

I don't mind dogs if they don't interact with me. The audacity of the owners on the other hand baffles me. I'm germaphobic, letting your dog come to me and lick me isn't going to change that, it's going to make me panic. Your dog jumping on people isn't cute, it's problematic. Real life situation - I broke my leg, had surgery which resulted in a 10 inch wound, I went to a shop and as I was coming back a golden retriever jumped up on me, it hurt so bad but the owner saw no problem with that. I had to go to the hospital, because it was bleeding so much. Accept that your dog isn't perfect and keep it on a leash, is that too much to ask for?

when I was younger I had a rabbit who I took out for a "walk" one day at this little park in front of my apartment building in the neighbourhood. And there was this lady with her dog off leash and the dog saw me and my rabbit and came at us barking. I was terrified and ran away immediately but the dog bit my rabbit and it was too late when I ran into my dad who heard me crying and told him what happened. He got in a fight with this woman about the dog but there was nothing we could do for my rabbit I had no knowledge of what to do and tried to read stories to my rabbit every night so that they would get better. He eventually died. I was traumatized by dogs and was super scared of dogs until I met a chow chow when I first immigrated. He helped me through that time a lot and I'm now definitely a dog person. There are real shitty owners and I feel like misbehaving and vicious dogs are generally a lack of care or proper training from their owners.

@@faizalf119 Although the very best trained dogs wouldn't go after a small animal, a dog is by no means badly trained if it does. Especially keeping in mind that the dog was off leash. Granted, dogs usually should be on a leash, but being off leash is not an inherently bad thing. Going with your viewpoint, that would be a hell of a lot of dogs needing to be put down(90% sounds about right) .Besides that, the best way to deal with an untrained dog is to just TRAIN IT, not to just immediately kill it. I was like that at one time. I didn’t like dogs. I thought they were a burden and didn’t want anything to do with them. Until Piggly became apart of my family. She looked like a baby hippo when I first got her, constantly crying, pooping, and peeing. I had to take care of her at times. Cleaning, feeding, and playing. Over the months , the sense of a burden left. She was a family member. . Loved us and we loved her unconditionally. She was a part of my life that brought joy, frustration, laughs, then tears. As of late September, she died of cancer. She took her last breath in my arms. My heart hasn’t stopped hurting since . So last year I lost my pitbull, her name was hemi, I loved her and she loved me. Hemi was a trained fighter dog who was rescued and brought to my house, when she was first brought home I was little and was told to not go near her because we didn't know how she would act. I sat about 4 feet away from her and held out my hand till she came to me, I gently pet her and gave her a kiss, since that day we bonded, she was my rock, she waited for me at the front door for me, she bolted to my bedroom when I went to bed, we shared a bed together and cuddled in bed. This went on for years till I joined the Airforce, in basic I woke up many nights with my arm stuck in a position that looks like I was still cuddling with her, at this time Hemi was trying to find me for a year, before my service ended, Hemi had cancer in her throat. Hemi was a angle to humans, she had gashes on her from humans but she hated dogs because she was trained to do that. TLDR I wasnt a smart kid, I had almost no will to live when I was in elementary school and I didn't get Hemi till I was in 7th grade and she kept me going till she died but she helped me find happiness.

Pibbles are amazing. My brother got a bait dog named Baby girl. That dog is the sweetest. When his girlfriends kid was running a very high fever one night she went into the gfs room and kept pawing at her to wake up led her to the daughters room and laid on top of her. Also had one named Red. He was a rednose pit. He loved my brother but he loved me a little more than him. Whenever i would go to sleep he would run into my room and jump up on my bed and lay his head across me watching my doorway and the window. Im the youngest one between me and my brother. Now i have a blind border collie named iris. That got extremely sick as a pup and my cats scar and mufasa laid beside and even brought her toys. I will say im a dog mom and cat mom because i cant have kids they help me cope with the depression from not being able to have children.

I agree with Mark 100%. I used to work at a dog daycare and I’ve seen good dogs and bad dogs or even good dogs with bad behavior. I’ve seen good owners and bad owners and even extreme dog owners. I’ve also seen many people who are afraid of dogs enter our facility and changes their mind at the end of the day. I’ve also took care some of the puppies and watch them become an a**holes cause their parents don’t train them and there are puppies that are very well trained. Its all about balance and maintaining a good relationship with the dog. There’s always that good/bad owner and good/bad dog, but not ALL of them are. Some just needs to be educated about the difference between these things instead of letting their hate generalize a specific group.

@Terminater Scenes well, yes, but dogs are not people. Their behavior is entirely dependant on how their owner trains and takes care of them. If a (bad) dog has a ton of terrible behaviors, it can still be trained to become good, although it takes way more time and effort than most people care to do. And almost always means changing owners. People, on the other hand, have much higher reasoning and aren't as motivitated by the simple rewards as dogs have, as they are so dependant (as they are bred to be). Although, the only cases where I dog cannot fully change their behavior is in extreme trauma, sadly. Super agressive pit bulls are that way bc they were so extremely abused. Almost tortured, really. Survival instinct is strong in every species, and if humans went through what some pit bulls do, many people would lose themselves too...

Terminater Scenes what i meant was a a dog could be well trained and knows all the tricks but if the dog is too hyper when it comes to playing with others, thats a bad behavior. Or in the owner’s eyes they are good dogs but causes too much problems with other dogs (which are the extreme dog owners. Not saying all of them is bad but some refuses to believe that their dogs are bad) I’ve seen dogs play too roughly and others don’t like it which would cause fights and thats one of the priorities when i was working. We need to supervise the dogs when interacting with other dogs to prevent a fight going on. Its a risky job but the main idea is for the dogs to be social with others and with people. Dogs can hate a certain breed or dog just by their behavior just how people hate other people without getting to know them. You’ll never know what a dog thinks cause they are still animals. They are unpredictable and we cannot speak their language. Thats why people must train dogs to redirect their bad behavior. Just as Angela M (comment right above me) said dogs are dependent to humans and a bad dog can be trained to be a good dog.

There's this girl that lives on my block and she literally hates all animals. But her brother had got a Pitbull that he named Halo. So when her brother wasn't home (as he had a job) she'd have me care for Halo because she didn't want to be near her. And Halo was so sweet. Every day when the School bus would let us off at our bus stop, Halo would be outside and her tail would start wagging so fast because she knew I was coming over to see her. The girl would walk around where Halo is and go inside while I would kneel down and let Halo jump on me. She would give me many kisses and you just couldn't stop her tail from wagging. Sometimes I'd just sit on the front porch and Halo would just relax on my lap for as long as we could. Unfortunately, it became apparent that her brother was too busy to care for her anymore and the brother felt bad that I had to care for his dog because his sister refused to do anything. So he had to give Halo to a different family that would care for her. I haven't seen her since, but I have heard from him that the family is taking really good care of her, and she's happy and still as sweet as ever. I miss her so much, but I'm glad she's in a caring household.

I get why many owners wouldn't WANT to be there for it, cause it's so heart-breaking to see an animal you care about as a family member, and a living being whose health, happiness and well-being you've always been responsible for suddenly dying, but unlike the animal, you'll keep going when it's done, so it's selfish to make the animal's last moments even worse by having them be alone (at least as far as they're concerned, as the doctor and nurse are just strangers), in order to save yourself from a momentary pain, that you can't avoid having to go through either way. Hey Mark, thank you for defending pitbulls. We just rescued a 16 month pit from the pound, who was being abused fomr a young pup up until he was 10 months old. The owners would put a chain around a neck and around the car and drag him behind until his paws were burnt. If he wasnt able to catch up or if he fell over, he was kicked in the head. Neighbors witnessing this called the cops and he was rescued from the family, and the owner arrested. The cops didnt believe this to be regular abuse, but abuse to try and toughen up the little guy for dog fighting(unfortunately, its popular in Pueblo, CO) but now hes living happiest he can. Just wanted to share our little guys story and thank you for definding the breed.

True. That's a good statement. But you honestly can't compare a child bite to a canine bite. Flat teeth vs Strong sharp teeth. People can die by getting bit by a dog. Never heard of someone being killed bit by a child. Can't compare the two even though morally speaking that quote is a good one.
