True story: one of my best friends has gamecube with the digital port that is holding open a door at his mom's hoyse eversince it stopped reading discs(last disc it read was Gale of darkness). I tried buying but his mom says no because in her words "it's the only doorstop that never gets lost".

Why? The Digital A/V port is direct digital out. The adaptor here takes the already digital signal and uses FPGA and GCVideo to output through HDMI. There is no digital to analog to digital conversion here like a $20 Wii adapter would do. It is digital out all the way through. The signal coming out also needs to be processed by the GCVideo so resolutions like 480i and 240p can work on modern TVs by outputting 480p. Any GCVideo adapter is about this price unless you consider the EON MK-II at twice the price (but it does a lot more)

I think that largely depends on where you get both. I checked my local retro gaming store for a loose GC system and they're asking $119. The adapter is about 1/2 of that on Amazon. But again, depends on where you buy each.

I have two GameCubes with PicoBoot MODs waiting for FlippyDrives, though it might not be until April that I receive them. Both are DOL-001, one uses the Kaico Labs adapter, the other has an internal HDMI mod (Pluto IIx). Both use GC Video and both output the same quality. Both use the SD2SP2 Pro which makes the SD card accessible from the side which is handy because both have a GameBoy player. I also got 3D printed covers for the slots.

I just got me a GameCube yesterday and I will say that Nintendo classic consoles are some of the best gaming tech in history and I will try modding it later on in the future and I definitely will be buying some more Nintendo consoles later

The only issue I found myself with a modded Wii u is I can't use the GameCube controller adapter at the same time as a hard drive because it requires both USB ports at the back. So there's not one available for the GameCube adapter. Has anyone found a fix for that?

No correction needed. A modded Wii is a fine way to play and enjoy GameCube content. It's only a matter of personal preference as to whether or not to own a GameCube to do it. Both are fine options, and anything that keeps those fine games alive and enjoyed seems great to me.

I have a PicoBoot GameCube got it off eBay would HIGHLY recommended. It has been my favorite modded console it has all the classics and with a Gameboy Player playing GBA games has been so cool on a CRT.

That's a great memory to treasure. Yes, gaming has certainly changed over the years since then. Just glad that it's still a thing; it almost fell apart back in 1983 at that crash. Can't remember what I did to pass the time until the NES came around. I think I just played baseball, rode my bike, watched MTV, and tried to explode my stomach with Jolt Cola and Pop Rocks. It was a dark time. 🤣

From my understanding, Swiss can load both discs as long as both are recognized in the file browser before starting the game.

Well, in a sense, there aren't any. Both can play GameCube backups, play emulators, and play those movie and music files. It's mostly. just a matter pr preference, unless... the Wii isn't one of the white Wiis with the GameCube controller ports.

Awesome! The 007 exploit works perfectly fine as well. That's one of the reasons I shoed part of it in the video. I used it for like a year before I put in the Picoboot mod. 007 mod is cheap, easy, and effective.

Just wanted to add there are modern controller's available now I usea a retro fighters blade gc controller also there is a Bluetooth board which allows you touse any modern controller wasn't available when I got my controller's wou.d have bought that instead

i hate to bring down sales for great ideas that we all wish we had 15yrs ago, but, its too late. the wii can do all this without extra parts. plus it natively upscales cube games. i get that its for the people who don't have wii's and only have a cube sittin around, but all i want from my cube is to play cube games without a disk but without needing to spend absurd price. i wish there was a way to play cube games from a sd card straight, no extra parts....and again thats where the wii comes in

I don't like it. One the one hand, Nintendo certainly has the right to protect their intellectual properties and should. It's the method they're going about it that's troubling, at least limited to the scope of KZbin. The KZbinrs I know are all great, honorable people. I'm sure if Nintendo would just reach out and POLITELY ask for their help with any concerns they have FIRST before creating mayhem on the platform, those creators would gladly reciprocate.

That's a legitimate concern. Controllers these days largely have things figured out. That generation, save for the DualShock, had some controllers that didn't fit many people well. Remember the Duke from the OG Xbox? Worked great for a few but became the S controller quickly when the Duke wasn't well received. Great to have options today that are robust.
