My sister was fully not paying attention when my family made plans to go to Omega Mart so when we arrived she thought it was an actual supermarket. My girl had absolutely no observational skills considering we had to pay to get in and Area 15 is not the kind of place a normal person would expect to find a supermarket in. Still, she had no idea what was going on. So imagine her surprise when she crawls through a hole in the back of a tent, only to emerge in a freaking fever dream. In short, she had loads of fun in the place, but understood absolutely none of the story and may not have even known that there was a story to understand.

I wasn't able to get too far in what the story was, I was a bit stuck on the first puzzle, but my parents ended up finishing the whole thing (it was a family trip). Thanks for this. It reminds me of the time I started a "band" in 2007 because it was fun and a great way to spend time with friends and escape a stressful job. The band never existed and never made any music, but we had a manifesto and an entangled history. A social experiment and a whisper farm. And it exploded into all sorts of crazy on MySpace and we got threatened by local mafia club owner. From the pre -launch guerrilla graffiti poster campaign, "collabs" with artists/ musos/filmagraphers/ designers, secret "exclusive" gigs, secured gigs at city's most demanded venues.... It kinda a peaked out when a drunken stranger was hitting on me, humble bragging about how he'd managed to get into a secret gig to see his favourite underground band. I asked a few questions. He told me a story about Karen O and Julian Casablancas being in the group of 23 audience members the night before, and the two key bands members Pussy Thomas and Miss Meow Mew. Everyone joining in to adapt a few of the songs. Garage percussion with found object instruments. It was all filmed on a Super 8 camera but no-one could figure out where to get it processed. He told me about Miss Meow... he was a result of creative energy flowing in strange unexpected ways. He believed, and for a moment I considered telling him, challenging him, pulling the Polaroids out of my handbag. But I didn't. It was too pure and punk rock. He had just gotten a Meow tattoo, and it was perfection. The band spilt up a week later; creative differences and an attempted homicide. The Vacuous Whores may come back if Pussy and Meow are in the same city again, who knows.

You never get to see people take art seriously and create things you can touch and go to physically and appreciate the way it looks. I’ve seen things like this from decades ago but it would be for kids or at a museum, mostly places where you can’t play. It almost makes me tear up to see this actually existing and how fully realized it is. We all take everything incredibly serious it’s nice to see something imaginative and so fun to look at. There should be more stuff like this. People should support stuff like this and drag shows and theater ect.

Things like this were really trying to take off when I was in college the first time around, from 08 to 12. I’m so envious of these artists. They got to do what I had always dreamed of doing. I went back to school in 2014 for a multidisciplinary degree, focusing on museum studies, archives, history, conservation, and art history. I had wanted to marry art and history and create ways for the public to interact and learn about it outside of museum settings. Unfortunately, I became permanently disabled and am housebound now, but seeing things like this project makes me happy.

Hello! Third shift grocery worker here, it's my job to pack things out onto the floor, so I generally have a good idea if we do or do not have an item in the back. If I don't think we do, I'll say it, but I'll still offer to go and look to see if we do. When I'm back there, I'll go through the four or so spaces that the product might actually be and give it a good look through. If I come back empty handed - and sometimes I do - it's because we just genuinely don't have the item in stock at the moment. :C Which sucks, especially because of how prevalent stocking issues have been since crown germ hit.

The idea that omega mart as an evolving instillation with a story that people can potentially unlock further aspects of just appeals to me so much on that D&D storyteller world builder DM way. The setting exists but it requires players to make it come alive and set it in motion. Meow Wolf’s idea here is absolutely brilliant in so many ways it combines so many elements of ARG with the LARPing aspects of role playing in a murder mystery dinner party or in an escape room. With the idea of a paranormal supermarket inspired art instillation with a parallel reality themed touch museum. Its basically an arg that takes the form of a physical location. Its so hard to define because on a way this is in itself an entirely new art form. It’s an art instillation but it’s not just that. Trying to Define it is like trying to explain a modern video game to someone in the 1700’s the best you can do is try and relate it to paintings, live theatre, and music.

I love that if you look up Omega Mart on google it lists it as an actual grocery store. But I’m really glad that this video didn’t try and explain the story of Omega Mart in depth. I think it’s best that people actually visit the exhibit and experience it for themselves.

I’m so happy Meow Wolf is finally getting some mainstream praise these days. I used to make it a point to go to their Santa Fe location every year since I was maybe 14 or so and it’s been one of my favorite places to visit with my family. I remember thinking how it’s story and the ones ARG oriented videos talk about were very similar and I’m a bit surprised it took until the second big location for videos like this to pop up. Hoping I’ll get a chance to go to Omega Mart soon, or at least back to the House of Eternal Return. Thanks Inside A Mind for like being chill and shit.

Holy god I wanna go here so SO bad. This is one of the COOLEST conceptual things I’ve ever EVER heard of and it breaks my heart to not be able to go explore it in person. It makes me so happy to see that independent artists are still able to produce pure art like this to this scale and be successful with it. There’s so many stories and works online that are art pieces on their own and that would flourish even more with an opportunity to take things to a bigger scale, but it always seems a little hopeless when you see the repetitive stuff being produced by triple A companies or Hollywood. So it’s just great to see something like this haha

I’m part of my local community theatre which we started nearly 26 years ago. We’ve done a few things that had some inspiration from the things that Meow Wolf has done. They’ve really opened a door into the arts that has allowed many people to rediscover what it is that the arts offer. Young or old, people are coming back to the arts. Meow Wolf is an amazing way to be introduced to the arts….just as it is an amazing way to expand people’s definition of what the arts are.

We were there for SIX WHOLE HOURS. The experience and visuals were transformative. The discoveries are so satisfying. The story is pretty fun but also weird and kinda creepy and super mysterious. I've heard of people not even having a clue that there is a story and thinking there's nowhere else to go other than the supermarkets. Most people don't find out the majority of its secrets or how it actually functions. I feel like there's still more I need to know. We had to leave only bc we were physically worn out. Only complaint is that we had no idea we needed to eat and drink beforehand bc they don't allow them in the store unless you're buying from their expensive foods.
