I've watched 12 Subharmonicon videos so far in the last 24 hours. Thanks for the vid Bo, but a bit much there eh Moog? Covid stuck-at-home technique maybe? As sexy as the third member of the semi-mod 60HP Moog fam is, I've yet to hear it rip and rumble...yet. Maybe I'm expecting too much in err umm...24 hours... haha.

You have made the most musical demo of this synth. Most others took a different approach. From the perspective of a synth player, this is the first modular/semi modular synth with promise to actually be playable with all of the modular bells and whistles! Thanks

IMO an important thing to consider with semi-modular synths is "would I wanna buy individual parts of this synth as standalone modules to add to a full rack". I want to buy the sequencer and oscillators from this as standalone modules. This is a good semi-modular synth

Hey Bo, I've sadly sold my Moog Sub37 today and thinking to complete my DFAM and Mother set up with this. Have you experienced playing with all 3? My guess is that this will give me that inspiration that I feel I couldn't get in a set up with a sub37 and a Mother32. Keen to hear your thoughts. I also had an eye on the Novation Peak for a v long time and doing a weigh up. I have a Minilogue XD, Hydra, Digitone so not sure whether I go towards a Peak or go for Subharmonicon. I think the uniqueness is important but I do love how the Peak sounds :S BIG thanks!

Hi Bo, thanks for another great vid. Do you have any tips about how to sync a SubH to a DAW? I am using a USB-2-Midi-Cable from Ableton to SubH. But the sequencer is absolutely unreliable and becomes out of sync. I adjust the latency parameters in Ableton and all is good for a while. But with the next start / stop in the DAW, the thing is hell out of sync again. Makes me mad :-) Thank you!

Hey, Nice review (subbed). Quick question; would you recommend this thing as a 'first synth' for someone to get into (semi-)modular (albeit a bit pricey)? I've been playing around with software (particularly REAKTOR) to produce some more electronic stuff and make some of my own patches, but I kind of miss the 'jamming' capability in the software (just turning the knobs). I used to be a professional session bassplayer, so the polyrythms and subharmonics seem super interesting to try some stuff with. It seems very unique and right up my alley. It seems pretty versatile as well.

Definitely liked this review and your honest thoughts. That sequencer is pretty interesting and seems quite versatile. I was considering the Make Noise 0-CTRL ($400) for its analog sequencing option allowing you to affect pitch, strength and time (on note) AND ability to play patterns in reverse. Although the Moog doesn’t have that feature, it does appear I can pair the 0-CTRL with it at a later time if it’s that important…unless there’s a workaround/feature undiscovered on the Subharminicon that allows you to do it. For now, I can handle the four (?) step sequencing because of the two sequencers it has which is pretty cool. I’m new to this but I just placed my order for the Subharmonicon. Cheers to success and to your continued following. Your videos are usually high quality and the effort you put into creating them shows through. Did you have a review of the 0-CTRL already? Have you considered a review teaming it with the Subharmonicon? That would be a video worth learning from! Stay safe and take care!
@BoBeats
@BoBeats 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! No video on the 0-coast. I wish I had one. Also a fun tip for the subharmonicon: if you have a sequencer with CV out you can put CV to pitch input to transpose the entire sequence! That can be useful to create longer sequences
@aSimpleChat
@aSimpleChat 2 жыл бұрын
@@BoBeats Thank you for responding so quickly! Can I fold the CV out back into to the pitch do that or….can I affect that same length (or longer) sequence by using say a Moog DFAM? While I think the $400 for the 0-CTRL is a bit pricey for me, are there other free standing analog sequencers you could recommend that can accomplish this? I am learning more about the CV world and it seems pretty powerful! Would a Keystep allow you to create 32, 64, or longer sequences using the CV? I literally just finished watching their video for the lowest priced version and it seems like it can do a lot. I love keyboards, but I’m ok having a good controller that has MIDI, pitch, and CV outs! I can do synth desktop modules all day and just use a MIDI breakout box and call it a day! In fact, I’m selling my OB-6 keyboard and so I can replace it with the desktop module one day. A strong controller can go far and NOT become obsolete so quickly as a MIDI ONLY controller can in MY usage. You’ve got a lot of knowledge so thank you for sharing whatever you can!

My only complaint with the Subharmonicon, which i probably will still get it, is that it doesn't have separate output paths or stereo paths. Imagine how cool it would be if you could hardpan the oscillators into the left-right, or get a spread going where they have even stereo distribution? Major problem with Moog. It's absurd that the Subsequent 37 for example doesn't have stereo outs. I know you can get around it, but it shouldn't increase the cost too much to include a stereo path
@BoBeats
@BoBeats 4 жыл бұрын
Couldnt you just take osc 1 and two out via patchbay and pan them? Ofc you’d have to process them individually but with eurorack you could do it fairly easily.
@fray3dendsofsanity
@fray3dendsofsanity 4 жыл бұрын
@@BoBeats I actually don't have any other eurorack, I have an Analog Four MKII and Hydrasynth though which allow me to send CV though. Was considering this as the first semi-modular in my setup. I tend to shy away from Eurorack because I prefer having presets and a more standard synth mod matrix, but this Moog is too cool to pass up. I had a Mother-32 for a little while and I loved the sound but just found it too basic with only 1 oscillator. So this is great because it sounds similar to the Mother, but is much more interesting and I want to include polyrhythmic elements in my music

It's beautiful. The part that bothers me about making music with polyrhythms is how do you control it? I have the NI Kontakt Moon Kit drum kit and it has a polyrhythm program built in. It sounds great, but I can't figure out how to make use of it with other instruments. If I can edit the piano roll and put in my polyrhythms I can at least see something that makes sense & that I can control. But having trouble with it for hardware or software that will "do it for you" because then they've taken out your ability to change it, or maybe I'm hallucinating the problem. I love the weird machines and effects so this Subharmonicon is definitely up my alley...albeit it certainly is steeply priced...it must be my arch-enemy, inflation, creeping in.
@nicholassturgess-monks4458
@nicholassturgess-monks4458 4 жыл бұрын
shitmandood it’s easiest to work with polyrhythms live rather than working with them in a DAW, also helps if everything else is running in a 4 to the floor rhythm. That way the polyrhythm is adding surprise/interest/spice rather than getting in the way of establishing a clear rhythm. In some respects that lack of controlability is kind of the point I think - it encourages you to embrace snap decisions and surprise (also why they’re better for live jamming than for working in a DAW

It's not REALLY a 4-step sequencer though it's 2 that can be clock divided poly-rhytmically which makes the permutations much more complex if you take advantage of that. Also uh, if you have Elektron devices you have NO limitation with sequencer stuff you can just MIDI control it.

Hi Bo, another annoying thing about this synth is the lack of consistency when you find a nice setting and you switch it off and on again as it's not going to sound the same!!!! if you find a nice rhythm my recommendation is to record it or try to make the whole tune with it because it's not certain that you will hear it again. I guess this is good and bad because it makes you just go for it and keep the tune as it is, I'm loving this synth big time

Wow, great demo! 👏🎶Tycho is my favorite band/musician, and your sound is right there in that genre. I'm not a musician but am interested in dabbling a bit, I saw one of these for sale in my area and was curious about it (Moog is hot stuff). I'll likely stick to laptop things, but this gives me more of an idea of what all those little buttons and knobs do. Synth Voodoo Magic. 😁

Did Moog send every KZbinr one of these?

I think so... I got mine, and also a DFAM. If you have a KZbin channel and didn't get one, reach out to them. They're a very nice company to work with.

Economy tanked at the wrong time...maybe get one next year. Hope synth manufacturers can survive, not looking good.
