My late wife used to moan about all the offcuts and strips of wood I used to store in the roof of my shed . . . oddly, she never complained when they came in handy and saved us money!

Dear Jonny, You are demonstrating a significant level of trust in the premise that your furniture will not share space with dogs, kids or clumsy adults. Some folks might have joined the top and base with a process that used the word "recessed" in the description. It's your show and your creation so of course it's also your choice but, I suggest that you pack a bottle of glue and an admonition against nails and screws with the table when you send it out. Love your show. Thank you for sharing.

Offcuts are the greatest thing. When I was little, my grandpa would give my brother and me his offcuts so we could practice hammering nails and using other tools in his garage, and even make little scrap wood birdhouses for my grandma! She really loved the birds that would come sing outside her window so having plenty of birdhouses was very important to her. Because of that practice with the offcuts and scrap wood, I was the only one allowed to use the tools in my middle school shop class unsupervised (and was even put in charge of supervising the other students while they were using the tools or just doing the the cuts and such for them when the students were messing around too much) and I have never had a friend who can consistently drive a nail in straight.

Offcuts. That's a stellar use of "scrap" wood. I was an avid woodturner for 14 years at one point, in my spare time. I was "famous" for scrounging scrap wood from my friend's turning shop (with permission). I usually made those odd pieces into something nice.

Jonny, I love your attitude of "if the plan goes sideways just try something else". Using bits left over from previous adventures/experiments/projects is a lot of fun! I'm a sewist. My projects are all fabric based and the fun part is the design. When the plan goes sideways I just try something else 😀 OFFCUTS

This would look really awesome at my house in Brazil! About 15-16 years ago I spent a couple of months helping my roommate's step-father in his shop in FL while he was undergoing cancer treatment, he was a career carpenter and we got to build some pretty cool stuff together, including work on a Velocity airplane. All that work got me really interested in wood working, hopefully I'll do that as a hobby in the future. Offcuts

I watched to the offcuts. Your table is a masterpiece. I have enjoyed woodworking myself. When I, my husband and daughter returned from a year in Japan, my husband gave me a Shopsmith. That was in 1986. We used it through the years, but I was the expert most of the time, as I took lessons at the local Shopsmith store. I wish I had taken pictures of my projects. My first was a cradle for my daughter's doll. We've also made Christmas carvings and various home decorations. I'm 74 now, but you have inspired me! Thank you for sharing your skills with us. I look forward to watching more of your work. Take care!
