Clicked as soon as I saw the thumbnail and title ! I’ve never tried pork belly (and pigs were the first animal that I stopped eating while I was transitioning to veganism) but I can imagine the different textures involved from what I remember bacon being like. Needless to say I was VERY intrigued to see how you recreated it from tofu! So cool! Thank you again for another awesome video 🙏

Freezing times are always dependent on how full it is, if you recently added other stuff that's still unfrozen, and position. If the result is so different from the expectation, these conditions might have something to do with it.

Very true!!! I bet that was the culprit!

Thank you for the free recipes! I think it might be a decent idea, to have a series, making a variety of different deli meats, such as salami, turkey, ham, beef roast, Cajun chicken, etc. Using extra firm tofu, seitan, and other bean like foods as the foundation for each of them. I'm not experienced in the vegan deli meat department, and would think that would be a great addition to your channel, I would imagine, the shelf life would be great as well , properly frozen.

Pork belly is totally not something I have ever been into - I actually hated all the fatty, gelly-like meats. Having said that. This is simply super impressive! The end result is so realistic while actually being much healthier than the real thing :D I am sure it would be a *bomb* ramen topping, would work nicely with some 5-spice and and if made into thinner layers, I think it would make a great addition to vegan carbonara! . Anyways, thanks for another creative plant base recipe! Have a fantastic rest of the week Mark!

This reminds me of this chay (Buddhist vegan) place I used to go to in Vietnam that made bun cha chay (vegan bun cha)! It looked gross when he was making it but now I’m making vegan bun cha using this after seeing the end. When his wife asked him what he’d use it in, I’m screaming “bun cha of course” at my phone. For those who have never lead the chance to live in Vietnam, it’s what Obama and Anthony Bourdain when Obama visited Hanoi, it’s a Hanoi dish but the place I’m talking about was in Saigon.

(Light Bulb Appears Over Head) Sisig. A Filipino dish that I've heard referred to as a great thing to have after a night of drinking, the next big food fad in the US, and more. I even saw a Subway in Manila that had a Sisig hot sub. It's good. Very good. In the Philippines, it's usually made using, well, pork face. I know about this because I live there part time (VERY part time since COVID). It's unnerving to see one sitting around in the meat counter in the supermarket, lemme tell you. Anyway, In the US, it's more often made using pork belly. Your faux pork belly would probably be easier to work with and really appeal to those who would enjoy fake pork belly. Fewer steps and far less greasiness to worry about!
