I have the RG40XXV. Getting Stardew valley on there from my stream library was super easy and totally worth the effort. definitely better than dealing with the stock OS.

Great vid. I’ve tried all of the CFWs for these XX devices. MuOS is my personal favorite. Portmaster runs AMAZING. I know you said you don’t want to be bothered to reinstall stardew valley but it should be painless enough, and the MuOS upgrade is SO worth it.

I had a *GBA SP* two decades ago. I have a *Powkiddy V90* that got sidelined after the Miyoo Mini released. I am waiting for the *Miyoo Flip* to get reviewed before I pick that _or_ the *RG35XX SP* up.

Welcome to the 35-sp love train. So many enthusiasts and creators have been really enjoying this device. Many of these handhelds have come out this year in Linux, android, and Windows flavors... ...but THIS is the one that is in all the pockets and bags The device you play is the one you have with you and this one is built to travel ^_^

As for CFW, you can make a second SD card to try custom AND most of the "ports" can probably just be copied over to the new card... it's far from difficult and the process has become WAY easier to try out CFWs

Hello, Izzy. Have you seen RG34XX? Looks like a classic GBA, just as portable as that SP in your video. For me, it's not worth it, because there already is a Retroid Pocket 5 and Mini in the market.

The Powkiddy, V90, was it, was a pretty good clamshell up to about, PS emulation, with tweaks. Pity the formfactor is so rare.

I have the regular RG35XX, running Garlic OS. If I didnt already have it, I would have went for the clamshell for convenience sake. One of the reasons I went to custom firmware though is the microSD card that came with the device just kinda stopped booting with it. I love how it plays my fav playstation games I had growing up.

You can still play stardew valley in custom firmware, you just have to set up portmaster

Use another SD card to test custom firmware. I use muOS. You can always use the stock SD card to return to Stardew Valley. I'm sure you already know that though.

To offer a contrarian view, the stock OS on this is absolutely NOT "dog shit." Anbernic has updated it multiple times, and it is absolutely, 100% fully functional and never at all needs to be replaced unless you want something specific. Is it the best looking? No. does it have built-in box art scraping? No. Does it launch and load games and work perfectly without messing around? Yes. As for the changing filters on the GB games, it is very simple. Before launching a game, you can also push "Y" to select which emulator you want to use. I use gambatte. Run the game. Hit Menu. Select CORE OPTIONS --> GB COLORIZATION = INTERNAL. Back out, select OVERRIDES. Choose SAVE CONTENT DIRECTORY OVERRIDES. From, then on, every time you load a game from the GB folder it will apply the same saved options. You can then freely use the R1 and L1 buttons to swap palettes.

You also need to go into the APP section and run the TURN OF BEZELS and TURN OFF SHADERS, otherwise it will Force a GB bezel and a green. overlay.

Can you not copy the SV game off the device, then install CFW and put it back on? If it's Android with root access or if it runs some other version of Linux, it shouldn't be too hard I would think. It's a Chinese device, so I doubt they care very much to keep you from having full control over your device, unlike smartphone makers, etc. Copyright isn't their concern anyway.

Best way? You do you, but no save states on GBA or DS, no fast forward, no suspend on GBA and blurry, awful looking DS games kills my interest in using my N3DS.

Installing MuOS & Stardew Vally (with current save too) = EASY… Izzy = LAZY.. Simply copy & paste game after flashing different SD with MuOS (Both root ports folder & roms/ports folder)
