I would just use the stock antenna and for long range use the elrs 900 mhz module, at least i will when I save enough money to buy the Radiomaster Boxer Max edition and the battery

Many thanks for your test results! Based on your testing it confirms that having antenna inside is enough for my flying. I took the inside of the original antenna and been flying my foamplanes but due to our vinter I have not yet measured distance yet. I never fly further than 250m and in my test flying very high I have never seen any problem within visible range for 0,8m planes.

Well, that's why we test, right? Now to iterate, and do it all over again! Thanks for sharing, Stingy! (puts Zorro back together, puts ELRS receiver antenna back into donor plane, waits for next test lol)

I just use the stock antenna, fits fine in the case that the Boxer came with which packs down plenty small for me.

Interesting results! If it does that well on 25mw I'd have to imagine you'll run out of video range before control link with the power turned up.

Love to see the innovation though I guess I throw caution to the wind every day since I have never taken my antenna off. 😆

I'm experimenting right along with you it seems. I tried a sleeved dipole run out to the back of the JR module bay so it wouldn't be attenuated by the internal electronics. It worked great but when I sit down to race, The antenna was basically between my legs and really killed the signal. I also tried something like this video except on an extendable bit to pull it out when I used it. That worked well but I broke it within a couple days. It would be nice to have something maybe like the left switch, except with 60-70mm of travel-- push to unlock the antenna and it pops out fully, push again to lock it back into the body for transport.

I've had great luck with my stock tx16s with IRC Ghost module.. I fly FrSky and Ghost.. I've been curious about ELRS thanks for the test..

A ceramic patch antenna is the way to go. They are slightly bigger than a GPS antenna and double stick right on the top.

yep, been using qtee the same way albeit horizontally. putting it vertical makes a lot of sense actually.
@stingersswarm Жыл бұрын
Yeah I prefer vertical to keep the nulls below and directly above myself.
@Atlas_FPV Жыл бұрын
I must be missing something because I dont see how it makes any sense, the antenna on the quad is horizontal and for the majority of the time you will be flying level, so having it vertical means for most of the flight you are cross polarised.
@stingersswarm Жыл бұрын
@@Atlas_FPV there is less loss of the signal from cross polarization than from aligning two nulls. Also I do lots of acro so the antenna is always moving. Additionally I run diversity with both vertical and horizontally mounted antennas.

Interesting results! But I get different results with a HM-EP2 RX (ceramic antenna) and with a HM-EP1. Here are a few measurements with the HM-EP1 at a defined distance at the same point with the same antenna orientation. The Boxer was pointing in the direction of the RX: Internal Antenna Mod: 25mW -104dBm LQ:88 100mW -99dBm LQ:88 250mW -96dBm LQ:98 Original External Antenna: 25mW - 102dBm LQ:96 100mW -98dBm LQ:92 250mW -92dBm LQ:98 Then I've tested with a HM ES24TX Pro transmitter (using my old Taranis X9D+) and got quite comparable values. But what does that mean? Is my measuring wrong? I should probably do the measurements again with a copter in flight to see how it actually behaves?

You have to figure out how to copy the dual internal omnidirection antennas they use on the Paladin FL-18. I get 3000ft. easy on 100mw. That little bump on the bottom of the radio works fantastic. It should work the same for ELRS as they use the same hardware.

last time you didnt have a ceramic antenna!? i think taking off an antenna just so you can put a whole module on the back is cool but not necessary?

that's a huge drop... I want to swap it out, I hate removing my antennas. i was going to try internal... but since the range was cut in half I dunno... Tango is still my primary... so I really don't care about range on my boxer. just use it on whoops, but would like to use it a backup. hate modules more that taking off antennas.
@jumpstartfpv Жыл бұрын
That's surprisingly short range for ELRS. Makes me wonder if something was wrong with the quad or the tx.
@stingersswarm Жыл бұрын
Yes limited to 25mw. With a ceramic antenna mounted too close to everything.
@klavifon Жыл бұрын
What was your packet rate? I saw 11:100 in osd, so that must be 1000hz if I’m not mistaken? That and 25mw limit and ceramic antenna won’t go very far…
@stingersswarm Жыл бұрын
@@klavifon that is the point. Same settings as with stock antenna. It is a way to test the failure point. If I ran 1w 50hz it would be a helluva walk to recover it after fail safe.
@NolanGerald Жыл бұрын
@@klavifon If you cranked up the power, your quad would run out of battery before coming close to the radios range limit. Fixed wing guys are hitting 20-40km no problem.

What goggles or OSD are you using? Is this not Betaflight or is this a custom skin OSD overlay or something like that? Cool video! How do you like the Elrs vs the Crossfire stuff in general? I have a Frsky Q X7 for using the frsky stuff and drones with xm+ RX's for pretty cheap. However they've went up a little in price recently plus no telemetry on TX but works on OSD which is really all i care about.. However the XF NANO RX is now almost the same price and that has a lot more features.. I recently picked up a TBS Tango 2 a few months back, and now that i've gotten used to it, i like the design and i like how its not too nig or heavy when its really not needed and i can almost reach buttons quicker on this smaller layout. Plus its easy to transport and take out and just ready to use quickly, plus new theyre not even too expensive, especially for the quality and what youre getting. It can also accept an add-on module and some of the ones are tiny now. You could potentially have both CRSF & External ELRS on the same TX. With models tied to the specific TX module, so no issues switching between them. Though id get a bigger radio if that was my plan i guess.. I know its only 250mw of CRSF power but that should be fine for me. And if anything i have a NX6, the Q X7, or i can pick up a Radiomaster TX16S with ELRS built-in if i wanted to just switch to ELRS. I fly RC planes and FPV Drones and really the controllers are very similiar, so id really almost have one nice radio for both, like a 4-in-1 Radiomaster TX16s and then get an add-on ELRS OR Crossfire TX module in the JR Bay for the Drone stuff...
