I feel like the price is the deal-breaker for me. A Model Cycles is less expensive, gives you great FM drum options, and has an Elektron sequencer to boot. Haha...yeah man, the Model Cycles was waaayyy too good for the money (still is). This one is interesting when it has built in battery capabilities, and a somewhat useable mic for recording the samples on the go. That would be really cool ....as it's so tiny, it would be a really cool mobile pocket thingy then. I know you most probably still can hook up a battery pack, and a small mic perhaps. But things get messy and more bulky quickly like that and thus inconvenient. And the price point for that ..hmmm yeah... Think it slightly missed the point in it here. Still a very cool and great sounding machine ,with enough options and effects. Also 8 tracks. Looks like a real productive small workhorse

If you're treating this as a sound module, another "sound-alike" competitor (minus sample playback) is the Korg Volca Drum. I have one. It also uses FM synthesis and can create up to six drum parts that sound quite like what I hear in this video. I think I would still choose the Korg because of the many more physical controls, the much lower price, and the "wave guide" processor that allows you to make sounds that can convincingly imitate striking (or plucking) an object.

Hi Bo! It is good to see another interesting 1010 music device on your channel. I am quite enthusiastic about this company's products, especially about Blackbox. I have purchased one and it is a great tool. Roland SP 404 MkII has started to compete only after the last upgrade. But the price... I have noticed it comments, I am not alone to complain about... Bluebox on a level of semi proffesionall ZOOM L12, Mentioned above Blackbox, 200 EUR more expensive than SP 404 MkII, finally this Razzmatazz, very unorthodox, but with cost, so far,twice bigger than tiny AIRAs... Well, those very boutique prices can close Europe for those mind blowing instruments. And it is sad. The only exception here, for me, is Lemondrop, which simply has no competition at all in stereo granular synthesis field. Best Regards and fingered crosed for your channel, Marek Tomczak

Valid points and I think 1010music are well aware. Its always difficult to compare prices: as a customer you should absolutely do that, but as a reviewer I also have to be aware that smaller companies can't compete with multi national billion dollar companies (such as Roland). So price reflects many things: size of company, the parts used, how those parts are sourced, where you manufacturer etc. That being said: always look at whats available before purchase and make up your own mind what makes sense to you.

I bought a Digitakt instead of a Model:Samples instead of something else etc.. but the main function was simply to provide an audible reference and master midi clock for my live looping setup. The Digitakt may seem like overkill but I do use it for other things and now with external audio and the more recent addition of song mode I think it will become even more tightly integrated into my live looping setup. I’ve still kept one eye on the lookout for an alternative device for providing a click-metronome + clock. I am not knocking the price but if this was $250, I’d be sold. I’m not saying it’s not worth more, just not sure it worth more for what I need. Pedalboard space is at an extreme premium so if this gets good reviews and has a solid clock I might end up getting one. Digitakt fits on my board but I don’t have the heart to velcro it down. Also, programming it that way will be a pain. Hey Bo Beats, great review/demo as always, and thank you.

I wonder which groovebox/sampler/drum machine will finally end up winning me over to the hardware side. Definitely not this one. I'm already deeply invested into hardware synths when it comes to melody. Beats however is a different story. I'm one of those people who spend hours online looking for sound samples, and once I find what I like, - I immediately convert it to .WAV and load it into my DAW drum machine/sampler on the fly. And this is why despite the fact that I have a number of hardware synths, my drum machine is still my laptop. Hardware groovebox would interrupt that workflow

Not to shit on you Bo because you're doing your job but I really dislike their new product line for ants. The blackbox is already small enough.

no worries, the size is definitely a feature that makes it "not for everyone". For me its totally fine, but as I note in the video if you have large hands its just difficult to use.

Cute idea but the manufacture is straight up taking the piss with pricing. $699 for the Lemondrop in Australia. Ableton Push 2 is currently $799 on sale on their site. Also could get a Maschine Mikro Mk3 (

I feel like 1010 could be a Polyend. Really love both other nanos… but the lack of battery, underdeveloped workflow, and light outer shells are misses. That said, this is now at the top of my wishlist.

for an extra 200USD you can get an M8 Tracker from Dirtywave which blows this thing out of the water. It even beats the 1010 blackbox for the money

I get suspicious when I see a review on a piece of gear and then next to it is another giant processor. I cannot tell which is doing what and it also indicates that the tiny nano box drum machine cannot be used without something bigger in addition that fits the fingers. Seems rather pointless making it nano when its too small to be ergonomic.
@freezerman58712 жыл бұрын
At 450€/$ this init seems way overpriced. Considering the limited voice and sequencer capabilities. The size is a major appeal though, but also a drawback at times. Mixed feelings here. At 150€ I would have bought this immediately to complement my portable setup.

Lots of cool gear--and we should be grateful, but I think the manufacturers are just patronizing, grfiting and placating us at this point😂 $400!!!!!! PASS!!! Makes for a great KZbin video and satisfies my gear video binging habit--but I already got gear that can do with this pocket pal can do. But this video gets a like anyway--because.....coolness, basically.

They should really take some notes from the Korg Volca line. Cheap, analog or digital with a specific purpose which works really well for it, can use replaceable batteries or a power adapter. This little box should be 200 euros max, at €450 I really can't justify it, especially since you can buy a Minilogue XD at that price (new) which genuinely offers a better bang for buck. Yeah, it's not a sampler, but I'd argue that a sampler shouldn't be the same price as an analog + digital triple oscillator synth.

@@Drinkyoghurt If you were to build one from a raspberry pi, (say for etsy selling) you'd be hard pressed to bring it in under 200. You'd have to not count any time and labor, and any coding/software development, and probably cheap out on the case. I get how it feels priced high but it seems about right too.

@@BoBeats for sure. I’d rather good folks like you demo and review this stuff than not-even if I have no use for the device or have something that already fills the need. The onus is on me the tame my G.A.S. and just appreciate the innovation and effort out into these videos.👍🏽

Damn it, Bob. I need a new drum widget like I need an STI. But it's so smol and cute... that UI looks very well designed for the two knobs. Toss it into a bag with a Launchpad Mini for portable finger drumming. Oh bloody hell it has a sequencer :D

Digital? I bet.

Amost definitely, it probably has the same internals as the other nanoboxes and only differs in what firmware it uses. (I'd prefer if the firmware was useable on multiple devices, but I understand this business decision of theirs. Not sure if any components are different between them as well or not.)
@danieldaniel78712 жыл бұрын
Lemondrop is superb and I was waiting for razz because of this. Well razz was disappointing although devices way of making sounds is interesting and nice in many ways. The sequencer though is lame af. As the sequencer is at it's current state it no way near worth buying, even volka sample can beat this sequencer vise in many ways. If they're not going to update it soon enough I'll have to sell it away.

Sort of...I think if it's in the budget you'd just be better off spending the extra and getting a Blackbox. But if you were to try to make this one and sell it on like etsy or ebay you'd be hard pressed to not be at about this same price point.
