Hi Alex, your explanation of shallowing the club that you did here is amazing. I tried it just now in my office and I have to say I a can't wait to get out on the course and try it! Could please include an explanation using a mid iron possibly? Like a 7, 8 or even 9 iron, I am either having a good driver day or a good iron day if that makes sense. Thanks for the videos and and the constant content I appreciate it.

Hey Alex, any suggestions and/or drills for hitting irons with the ball above or below your feet. My iron play is fine on the fairway but struggle not standing flat.
@jeffreywj77738 ай бұрын
Leslie King was teaching this technique sixty years ago. I think there was a book or booklet detailing his teaching method called " The end to trial and error golf". This may have something to do with how old time golfers had to swing the club back in the day of hickory shafts that were very flexible. A too aggressive body turn would make the club head uncontrollable. Interesting to see that modern golfers are coming back to some of the old time fundamentals. Thanks.

I tried the feet together drill works really well. Now I will give this new drill tomorrow. Thanks a bunch.

Thank you for talking about shallowing. I quit doing that move because it was opening my club face at impact and to stop the open contact face, I then had to bow my wrist to manipulate a closed club face. Again, I will try to drop hands to pocket area and turn. Sounds so simple but hey thanks again.

Just got back from the range and this helped so much. Was hitting them much straighter. Now to take that onto the course.
@jeffb83318 ай бұрын
Great video. I have used both methods and here is my experience: I am currently using the more "complicated" method of dumping the clubhead with the wrists and turning hard. I went to this method about a year ago because under pressure my transition would get fast and I felt it better insured a shallow path. While my strikes have improved some my directional dispersion is much worst. Its gets even worst when I try to take something off a club. I hate that I often miss directionally on short irons. I plan to go back to the method you describe and I like the shoulder/pocket keys to get my feel back. A couple of things that I found important when I used this method in the past 1) a flat to bowing wrist at the top (obviously depending on your grip) 2) keeping your right elbow pointed down at the top (presetting at address - pointing at your stomach). A training aid like "The Hanger" might be useful with this shallowing approach to get the right wrist angles. Thanks!!!

LOL. I love that bad shallowing demo in the beginning, reminds me vaguely of a really bad disco move, or else some variant to Right Said Fred (I'm too sexy for my swing). Thumbs up. Once saw a short video where Ernie Els described the same feel... just the feel of dropping the club from P4 first and nothing else.

Another good video and exactly what I am working on. You spoke too soon re the weather it is absolutely pouring down in Lancashire - over 10mm overnight. No golf today! What I would like you to cover is the punch shot for approach irons to green when wind against. I find that I end up following through too much as the momentum carries me through to a full finish and if I try and stop early I seem to chunk it. Please could you advise - thank you! Keep up the good work and see you tomorrow!

Same thought also promotes good side bend! I have always thought about keeping back to target longer, and then adding side bend as two different swing thoughts. Keeping left shoulder behind ball thought has great benefits for me on all my full swing clubs. My favorite kind of tip is a simple one that replaces more than multiple swing thoughts. Many thanks.

Alex - maybe I am missing something, bit this is contrary to letting the feet lead. Not sure I'd be able to get this hips cleared ahead of my arms. For me, I fire the hips before I'm at the top of my back swing. This really engages the core and allows for a powerful release. My focal point after firing the hips is yanking the left shoulder away from the ball while extending out through the ball. tons of power. thoughts?

Great video, very easy to understand and try to replicate..... I definitely turn before I drop and I don't feel like I'm rotating enough in my backswing.... I'm 6'5" so my flexibility isn't the greatest which causes me to lose a lot of power... If I picture a baseball field I feel like my back is turned to about 3rd base and it also feels as if I regrip the club (glove hand) in my backswing where the butt of the club slides more into the palm about a quarter of an inch.... With my swing in particular, the longer my backswing, the more my wrists start to unhinge which may have to do with poor back rotation.

Hi Alex, does anything need to change if you can't achieve a full turn on the back swing? I'm a 78yo who's played for some years but lately find my shoulder turn is restricted to perhaps 70 - 80° which seems to cause an out to in swing and at best a fade but sometimes a slice. I love your simple approach to the mechanics but my limitations are frustrating the life out of me.
@AlexElliottGolf8 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t say so, i like to flare the left leg to help with rotation, so this may help if you aren’t able to achieve a full backswing, nevertheless to be playing golf at 78 is incredible, give yourself some credit and don’t put too much pressure on yourself Bob 🙌🏼 you are doing a great job
