It’s fun, but kinda limited. The reason why I say this is because of the limited roster. They didn’t add familiar faces from all TMNT media into this game. No Bebop, Rocksteady, Miyamoto Usagi (I know, I know… He’s technically not a TMNT character and came from a comic called Usagi Yojimbo. But he does appear in the cartoons (both 80’s one, the 2000’s one and even the 2012 CGI one) as some sort of crossover), Wingnut, Chromedome, Krang, War, Leatherhead, Rat King, The Triceratons, Armaggon… Nothing. But they included three Rabbids in the Wii version which I felt was a bit much. Maybe it’s a license issue with some of the characters. I don’t know. It’s that complicated, but even with that, they could’ve fleshed out the roster more. Would I like to see another one like this? Yes, I don’t mind another attempt for a TMNT fighting platformer game. But hopefully this time they give us more characters, stages, items and extras than what they did here.

Personally I always felt the inclusion of the Rabbids was an underhanded and lazy promotion of their own stuff. Seriously, out of 16 characters, Rocksteady and BeeBop aren't in this, but Rabbids are? I could see including it in a collection but by itself, it was a huge wasted opportunity.

Jim Lawson was the worst of the artists used by Mirage Studios, but he was one of the most frequently used for the Mirage TMNT comics for some reason. Hiring him for this game was not smart. Around this time Peter Laird had him drawing TMNT Volume 4, which he was releasing for free on the internet (as well as selling physical copies), but the artwork was so bad that I didn't even want to read them for free. There was also some lousy writing in vol. 4, such as retroactively giving a magical "origin story" given to April O'Neil, who had previously just been a regular human who became friends with the Turtles after they rescued her. (I had stopped reading by that point and just heard about that one.) The best TMNT comics were the early ones where both Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman involved. After the TMNT cartoon came out the creators got too busy running their company and hired others to do some of the work on the Mirage comics. It's very similar to what happened when one of the Red Dwarf creators left. The seasons right after that where only one of the creators was involved were not as good. And the addition of all those rabbid whatchamacallits was another stupid move. Even including a single one would be pushing it, but why so many? There were plenty of TMNT characters to choose from. 2:28 What you are displaying as the "NES" box is the Japanese Mega Drive box.

I played the re shelled because i loved turtles in time on the snes. I found the game pretty boring and just figured I grew up and the beat up genre isn’t as fun as I remember. Then I played the snes game on the cowabunga collection and was having fun. So just because it’s based on that game it doesn’t meant it’s the same game

We didn't have too much fun with title, but love the artwork and mini comic it was packed with! Who knows, maybe this'll get packed with other TMNT collections...that didn't quite make the cut.

Smash Up is a great game that suffers from: 1. Being constantly compared to Smash Bros. 2. Limited roster. I rerelease of the gme would be good. A sequel would be even better with a much larger roster.

I seemed to have missed that part of the turtles story where April becomes a conditioned and hardened fighter that can match up to the turtles, Splinter, Shredder, and whoever else happens to be in the roster. Seems like a lame way to try to be "inclusive" to both genders. Is there some actual lore behind how and when this supposedly happened in April's life and how she managed to become such a competent fighter in such a short span of time, whereas most everyone else spent most of their lives learning their arts?

Splinter trained April in the Imagi CGI movie (which the game model is based on) and I think also in the 2003 series. This is, of course, after she's met him and the Turtles, so obviously she never actually becomes good enough to beat Shredder, the Turtles, etc.. That part is just making a video game and trying to have the characters balanced.

Oh man...Maybe I am too old...But for me TMNT games ended in 90th in 16-bit era. I played PS2 games but it was short and forgotting expirience. The Shredders Revenge is a good new game, but I liked something more like Streets of rage 4. Smash Up is not great. I'd leave it in gaming history slumber. The TMNT Toutnament fighters 2 is much more greater dream game.

I remember having high hopes for that game on the PS2 back in the day but getting completely disappointed 'cause it wasn't very fun! That other smash clone that was anime based Battlestadium DON which had Dragonball Z, Naruto and One Piece characters was much MUCH more fun to play than this TMNT game!

Smash-Up is cool but lacks content. Cause it has potential, in my opinion. And it can be fun to play. But, since there is not too many characters and there is not that much to do in this game, it could become boring, after you play as all characters and beat the story mode. I played it via emulation, and i had fun for a few days. But then it became boring, and i removed the game from my hard drive.
