My name is Kaiya Pelletier and I am documenting my metal journey as I discover and listen to metal music for the first time ever. I'm in my mid 20's and I've been a singer songwriter and performer for over 10 years. Currently I live in Stillwater, Oklahoma and I am in the process of recording my 4th album. It's interesting hearing you talk about the vocal influences. I'd suggest Peter Tägtgren has had an influence on a lot of the bands you've mentioned, as he's a prolific producer and has been responsible for a ton of top metal albums from big bands, including Dimmu Borger, Children of Bodom, Immortal, Dark Funeral, Amorphis, Sabaton, Amon Amarth and a lot more.

Peter Tägtgren is almost as legendary as a producer as he is as an artist. There is a reason you hear a lot of the bands you mentioned, cuz he produced a lot of them

Hypocrisy was always my favorite melodic death metal band. Peter also was the producer for most of the mainstream 90s black metal from his studio, the Abyss. Peter was into the alien theme heavily since the Final Chapter album. That's what this song is about...Alien abduction. Very unique and nowadays, his albums would almost be prophetic with disclosure currently unfolding.

Penetralia and Osculum Obscenum are DM masterpieces IMO. These later albums are good in their own right, but just sound like a different band to me.

As far as best albums, the fourth dimension, final chapter, the arrival, end of disclosure...the most unique is their sixth album, self-titled. Experimental and melodic death metal. Slipping away on the final chapter album were early iterations of his other band, Pain.

Way back in the days of late 90’s I had to write some autographs for Peter (the singer/guitarist) at the Wacken festival. We were kind of ”lookalikes” back then aparently😅 Now he has grey hair and long beard and I have a bigger ”beer belly” haha😅 Intresting choice of song though. Great song, but not any of their biggest hits. Peter has his own studio called ”The Abyss” where he records all Hypocrisy albums, and all his side project ”Pain” albums. Many big bands records their albums there. He also used to be the second member of Till Lindemann (Rammstein) side project ”Lindemann” Hypocrisy”s music has never been known for its brutality. They are more a mid-tempo deathmetal band with a lot of catchy chorus and nice melodies and harmonies. More please😄

The Fourth DImension album is the pinnacle and the last master piece of Hypocrisy imo. There're handful of good songs on albums after that but nothign significant. Except "The Final Chapter" from the album "The Final Chapter". That's kick-ass!

Abducted was the album that made me switch from being a lame skaterboi to a cool metaldude and switching was a major thing for a 14 year old in 90s Sweden. Mr Tägtgren is swedens second metal genius behind Swanö. But he is not far from batshit insane and seems to believe all the conspire theories.

Peter Tägtgren thought _The X-Files_ was a documentary. 👽 🛸 The Final Chapter is my favorite album from them, though _Abducted_ is also up there. Overall a very consistent band to this day. Even when they took a sidestep with _Catch 22_ , they eventually "fixed" it later with a re-record, re-mix and re-master. I'm pretty sure I saw them live about 15 years ago, just have to find the ticket stub to be certain. 😅

For me this band peaked with the album The Last Chapter in '97 and thankfully it didn't end up being just that. The next nontitled album in '99 is their second best album ever.. since the original drummer Lars Szöke left their style changed. Still a great band but for an oldie like me.. for a fan since Osculum Obscenum, it'l never be the same.

As far as impact, Peter Tägtgren produces most of the classic more polished 90s black metal in his Abyss studies. Dark funeral, Dimmu Borgir, to name a few. He also has a more metal/techno band called Pain and he played drums in Linnderman.
