I'm a 46 man from CANADA. My Dad is a retired day cab trucker . I used to go with him sometimes through childhood all the way in to my mid 30's. Best times of my life. So I'm a trucker at heart. I love how informative you are for average folks who don't maybe know much about trucking. Yet you never talk to us like we are stupid. Your wife and kids are awesome. It's so cool how you show "the life of trucking family man". ( i like that. Feel free to use that or share it ) just wanted to share my thoughts with you. Thank you for doing your videos. Even though I'm Canadian I want to thank you and all of your trucker friends for continuing to work and provide your services to your country during the covid-19 pandemic and always. Be safe out there..... i do have one question. I remember up until my dad retired that truckers used to wave at each other, like friends or a brother/sisterhood of friends. You dont see that as much anymore. I watch trucking videos from America and Canada and see this ( or a lack of it) on both sides of the border. Have we lost our Trucker's Commeradery, in your opinion?
@truckingwithschmidt71204 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and the kind words. I try to show that truckers can still be family members to lol. Love that you used to ride with your dad in trucks. As for the waving, its like everything. Comrades in trucking has changed, but if you don't change with it, you will find that there is still good guys out here. We don't wave as much but we still do things that show a brotherhood in the industry. I'm probably not the best I could be at helping the problem, im not really social anymore at truckstops like the old timers used to be.

Family is key, this action is what builds up a good testimony, great video, and she has great skill! As a child of a truck driver, this makes me emotional to watch these videos, that’s one reason why I like it, truckers don’t get that much time, but when they do, they use it for family. I’m a 14 year old boy and hate being away from my dad at a week or two, it’s hard. Although it pays off at the end of the road, nice content once again, liked and subbed!

Hello Schmidt. It's great to watch your progress and being your own boss. I think im ready to start my own. I've saved a nice chunk but I don't have enough for a trailer. But enough Pete or W900. What do you think is a reasonable rate to pull dry freight if I signed up with someone. Its my 8th year and its time to move on. Got any advice?
@truckingwithschmidt71204 жыл бұрын
Well good luck in the future, as for dry rates I probably can't help out much. I do know there is a lot of competition in the dry freight business. I remember asking a lot of people about rates when I got started and not many had solid answers for me. So I picked a number of what I wanted and what I needed and just went with that. For example I have to have 1.75 a mile but want over 2 by the time the truck is parked for the week. The dreaded average word. A lot have better numbers , but I know what I myself want that will keep me moving around without sitting for frieght. .

hey i have a question. i think you probably mentioned this in an earlier video but i am a some what new subscriber so i haven't seen anything on it too recently. i was wondering about the trailers that you pull. do you have a dedicated contract to pull someone else's trailers? or do you just pick up what ever power only loads that you find? or do you just keep your trailers at their facility and then they load them at their leisure?
@truckingwithschmidt71204 жыл бұрын

No...just a part of being a good dad. Or school functions..I'm telling you I would have taken less in life to have her there for everyone of those games. Don't lose yourself in your pride about being an "owner operator" bc your kids aren't gonna see it that way trust me. It will forever taint your relationship. Ik I've learned something from it. I know when I have kids I have to make a balance to be there more than my mother was. Keep up the good work. Family first though. They will remember you not being there not the reason why.
