Thankfully, case law has already established that computer enhanced images are altered by the enhancement process, which is especially true of images enhanced by a basic neural network trained to upscale images, because the neural network makes educated "guesses" to upscale the image, and thus don't pass the litmus test for being acceptable as evidence... This won't stop law enforcement from using this technology to develop leads from video and photographs, but they'll need to develop other forms of evidence in order to build a case that will land a conviction...

Im one of the one who train upRGB to waifu2x, TTA mode is and legacy option not mean to be used actually, this mode procces the image 8 times rotate it 45degress each time and combine them, you shoud use "2-D ilust (upRGB model)" for things like text and logos EDIT: Also make sure you have Nvidia cuDNN installed and cudnn64_7.dll in the waifu caffe folder, you can get it from Nvidia EDIT2: waifu2x proces images at 2^x, that means 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x... don't use any other scale x, if you use 3x it will be a 4x downscaled

TTA mode is Test Time Augmentation - basically runs multiple versions of the image (flipped, slightly rotated, slightly cropped, etc) through Waifu2x, then combines the results. Ideally, using more versions of the image will make the result look better. It's also a very helpful technique in image classification!

waifu2x is based on machine learning which means that it has been trained on anime drawings and performs best with anime. if you want to upscale windows UI elements you would have to train it with that and then it would be able to replicate that with much better accuracy

I'vee found this especially useful when trying to use a 1080p anime background on a 2k monitor and the like. the results are interesting when you are scaling a low-quality image, but when all the information is already there it's really good at just making it look a little more like it belongs on your screen, even if it's looks are essentially the same.

Tip: If you want to take a large *perfect* screenshot of anything in Windows 10 then just use Windows own scaling. Windows 10 fonts and icons are vector based so they scale perfectly to any size. Go to Settings > System > Display > and under 'Scale and Layout' set it to 200% or whatever you want.

Hello, Taran. I am the author of SmartUpscale. There is now also SmartUpscale for Chrome. I would like to note that there is a more general and important issue we all need to solve - inevitable blur at non-native resolutions introduced during both display- and GPU-powered upscaling regardless of whether the scaling ratio is integer (e.g. 2.0 or 3.0) or fractional (e.g. 1.5 or 2.5). For example, Full HD upscaled to 4K is BLURRY due to bilinear interpolation blindly applied even though it could be perfectly sharp if each signal pixel was displayed as a square group of 2×2 same-color physical pixels. To encourage display and GPU manufacturers to finally solve the issue after 5 years of the 4K era, it’s important to make as many people aware of the issue as possible. Linus Tech Tips is probably able to cause that degree of public attention. For the Schiit logo, I would have just used the pen tool and make my own vector image of it. It is all straight lines so it is pretty easy. For more complex images, you take your chances.

I have gotten so much use out of it, specially with clients sending low-quality logos for us to use in videos. It's been a long time but Illustrator should have it's own vectorizing tool, and there should be some very good third-party plugins available, but I can't offer any suggestions as to what the best ones are in 2019. As you showed though, each tool has it's strengths and weaknesses... but sometimes you just have to spend time working on refining the image after it's vectorized particularly for complex images with small details.

I think the "rendering" time is not the issue but the whole process' duration. Needs a plugin to Premiere/Photoshop.. Something similar or even waifu2x derived will probably be there at some point in the future anyway.

Hello my good sir, hoster of waifu2x.booru here. I noticed cudnn doesn't do much with time but it does lower the GPU memory usage by a estimate of 3 for my server. I been running with cudnn for a year now

It's much faster, at least from what the github says "Two-dimensional illustration (UpRGB model): A model that converts at a speed higher than or equal to that of a two-dimensional illustration (RGB model). However, since the amount of memory (VRAM) consumed is larger than that of the RGB model, adjust the division size when forcibly terminating during conversion"

Id just like to mention that this can also be used for video.I upscaled the whole first episode of yugioh by making it an image sequence in Photoshop, upscaling that folder, then putting the audio back using premiere. I made the 480p video into HD
