This won't stop law enforcement from using this technology to develop leads from video and photographs, but they'll need to develop other forms of evidence in order to build a case that will land a conviction...

TTA mode is Test Time Augmentation - basically runs multiple versions of the image (flipped, slightly rotated, slightly cropped, etc) through Waifu2x, then combines the results. Ideally, using more versions of the image will make the result look better. It's also a very helpful technique in image classification!

waifu2x is based on machine learning which means that it has been trained on anime drawings and performs best with anime. if you want to upscale windows UI elements you would have to train it with that and then it would be able to replicate that with much better accuracy

Tip: If you want to take a large *perfect* screenshot of anything in Windows 10 then just use Windows own scaling. Windows 10 fonts and icons are vector based so they scale perfectly to any size. Go to Settings > System > Display > and under 'Scale and Layout' set it to 200% or whatever you want.

I would like to note that there is a more general and important issue we all need to solve - inevitable blur at non-native resolutions introduced during both display- and GPU-powered upscaling regardless of whether the scaling ratio is integer (e.g. 2.0 or 3.0) or fractional (e.g. 1.5 or 2.5). For example, Full HD upscaled to 4K is BLURRY due to bilinear interpolation blindly applied even though it could be perfectly sharp if each signal pixel was displayed as a square group of 2×2 same-color physical pixels. To encourage display and GPU manufacturers to finally solve the issue after 5 years of the 4K era, it’s important to make as many people aware of the issue as possible. Linus Tech Tips is probably able to cause that degree of public attention. For the Schiit logo, I would have just used the pen tool and make my own vector image of it. It is all straight lines so it is pretty easy. For more complex images, you take your chances.

It's been a long time but Illustrator should have it's own vectorizing tool, and there should be some very good third-party plugins available, but I can't offer any suggestions as to what the best ones are in 2019. As you showed though, each tool has it's strengths and weaknesses... but sometimes you just have to spend time working on refining the image after it's vectorized particularly for complex images with small details.

I think the "rendering" time is not the issue but the whole process' duration. Needs a plugin to Premiere/Photoshop.. Something similar or even waifu2x derived will probably be there at some point in the future anyway.

Hello my good sir, hoster of waifu2x.booru here. I noticed cudnn doesn't do much with time but it does lower the GPU memory usage by a estimate of 3 for my server. I been running with cudnn for a year now

It's much faster, at least from what the github says "Two-dimensional illustration (UpRGB model): A model that converts at a speed higher than or equal to that of a two-dimensional illustration (RGB model). However, since the amount of memory (VRAM) consumed is larger than that of the RGB model, adjust the division size when forcibly terminating during conversion"

@@awen4784 Waifus are considered hentai imo. Even if she isn't necessarily naked it's still a piece of anime being used to sexually pleasure yourself, which falls under the defenition of "hentai" in my book.

If you are attempting to archive websites, most browsers will allow you to save a copy as a zipped web archive in a nice neat package so you never have to worry about upsampling. You can use a browser to rerender at whatever size you need, optionally augmenting or replacing lower quality images that don't scale well with waifu2x versions or versions found online or otherwise hacked together as need requires.

you are correct, and that is a better/faster/smaller data method for archiving a site (though for important sites, i would still take a full page screenshot, and future browsers might not support all the page's features, thus reconstructing it improperly) But my need is to screenshot a site for being put into a video, not to archive it.

There soon will be a vector pattern referencing algorithm... basically, it will find the fonts that most likely matches to perfectly space them, every shape at every angle and every popular logo. This will also eventually make surfing the internet seem to over 500% faster as to have the vast majority of the image data pre-loaded.

I can already see why this was made: resize waifu pics pulled off twitter or some other website compressing your base image (and yes I know you can access the full size image on twitter but come on, we all know people are lazy) Joke aside, I'd love to see that on emulators, I often end up preferring pixelized original image over filtered one with how bad it can be

I know I'm late, but combine Waifu2x with Saucenao for ultimate pics. (Saucenao beats Google reverse image search hard in the area of anime-style pictures.)

Wow, really nice upscaler, thanks for the tip! Regarding website screenshots, Firefox’s built-in screenshot JavaScript function allows the DPI resolution of the screen to be specified (e.g. 2x, 3x, etc.) which helps fonts to remain crisp.
