I bought one of the first VW MK8 Golfs When they first came out nothing but problems from day 1. Even had bits missing like fold in mirrors that were heated paid extra for winter pack no switch on steering wheel for heating. All i got was a drivers heated seat codes missing everywhere then recalls new steering wheel. It was in the garage more than on the road had it 3 years got rid of it with 2300 miles on the clock. Complained to VW head office they couldn't care less.

Hmm, if the clutch pedal is on the deck it doesn't sound like Clutch failure itself and still sounds like there's a hydraulic problem. Either they have misdiagnosed the problem initially, not bled the clutch properly after fitting a new Master Cylinder or the Slave Cylinder has failed. I would like to think that Moores are going to fix the issue FOC as a gesture of goodwill particularly as uou are probably one of their best customers. It seems also that they have let you down on more than one occasion recently and that may start to have a knock on effect with your business and reputation. Maybe the time has come to find someone else to do your MOTs, servicing and prep work James.☹️🤔
@galaxion62
@galaxion62 14 күн бұрын
Totally agree about this being a hydraulic failure, and with a lot of these modern day cars, the clutch slave cylinder is often located within the clutch bell housing, so it's a dismantle job, also usually resulting in contamination of the plates with hydraulic fluid from the leaky slave unit. This dealer sounds like an honest chap with integrity, which is quite a rare find in the times we are currently living in. Certainly not one of those dodgy 👺dealer geezers with a dorsal fin 🦈 on his back! 😁 .

Wish we had some dealers like yourself up here in Derbyshire.... Probably about 1998, I once bought a (near) 3 year old Saab 900 (unfortunately not the classic, the first of the GM ones) from a big VAG dealer. After a week, the ABS light came on - went in and mentioned it. Service Manager looked me in the eye, shrugged his shoulders and said 'not something that needs fixing. It’s not covered by the warranty anyway' Genuinely speechless, I walked. I checked the reg doc - the car had 2 weeks of manufacturer's warranty left. Straight around to the nearest Saab dealer who squeezed it in under warranty - nearly £900 worth of ABS pump (from memory). 25+ years on, and I still remember it like it was yesterday......

James, you do a great job, keep it up. I recently bought an Audi A4 Avant (2013) from a private seller who’d owned it for over seven years. Clearly well looked after and drove great on test drive. I did notice the car wasn’t getting up to temperature on the gauge during the test drive but I didn’t even mention it to the owner, I just went ahead and bought the car and thoroughly enjoyed the drive home. Used cars sometimes need a bit of TLC and people need to be realistic.

It pays to read some service histories. I buy VAG cars and now drive dsg box cars. They should have the dsg serviced with the 38000 miles (or thereabouts) service. However quite a lot of owners ask the garage to skip this part of the service because they think it’s not essential. Bad move.

It's the people who know nothing about cars, bar driving them, that are the one's who complain about dealers ripping them off. If you have basic understanding about how a car works, you will know It's a bit of a gamble buying a used car because there are some things on a car that the dealer or the buyer will not know about until it happens, ie. clutch system ect. Like you said james It's what you do when it happens that's important.

We had something similar on our Suzuki Swift Sport, lovely car, had it delivered and 3 days later we lose all brakes as a caliper had seized and a line had failed. Drive it the 1 mile back to Suzuki as I’d just dropped off my 2013 Suzuki Swift Sport (we have 2, a 2010 and 2013), called the dealership that supplied us the 2010 Swift Sport explaining the brakes had failed catastrophically 3 days after receiving the car “oh I’m ever so sorry that has happened, be better not at Suzuki but you’re probably not willing to drive it any further. Get Suzuki to diagnose the issue and I’ll get those brakes done”. Meanwhile I’m talking to my other half about the clutch, struck a deal with the supplying dealer, they did the brakes, we did the clutch and we’re very happy with the car.

Great video James. You are 💯 right on the Hyundai not being your fault. The fault lies with the disgraceful amount of clutch issues on kias and hyundais. This is on petrol and diesel models. It's simply amazing that regardless of engine or year, they still have this issue, probably on all models since 2008. Furthermore, their 1.7 crdi are a ticking time bomb and their post 2018 1.6 crdis are plagued with dpf, injector and other issues. Hyundais have earned an ill deserved reputation as a quality car.

I've had a few cars and some of them have had problems soon after buying them. The first one that springs to mind was a 15yo Mazda 3, great car, called the garage and the guy didn't mess about, he just arranged for the repairs to be done at my convenience. The second one that springs to mind, the guy argued and argued for a week before giving in and agreeing to get it sorted, but only after I told him I would contact the AA, with whom it was guaranteed to put a complaint in. I know which garage I wouldn't hesitate to go back to & would recommend and which I'd tell people to avoid. Even brand new cars, or any other goods, can go wrong but if it's dealt with correctly it doesn't need to be a problem. Always give the seller a chance to put things right and be reasonable, only take things up a notch if it's needed, and even at that point make sure it's done stage by stage instead of going from dealing directly to being completely over the top.

i had the exact car, worst i20 I'v driven, had the 2 older shapes and adored them, always had them as a second car with me and the partner and a passat estate as a main family car, I dunno what's changed but my clutch on mine went at 27k and the car was driven so chill, but the clutch would potentially overheat and struggle while in stop start traffic, the previous model I did over 140k in it with the original gearbox and clutch, the interior in the newer models was lower quality than the previous one to which I hated, all cheap and hard plastics, looks the part mind, and yeah every car is different and luck of the draw, my passat on 173k with all original parts which I will hold onto aslong as I can, and 100% agree good customer and judge the dealer by what happens. fair play chops!

Never needed a clutch in over 30 years of driving a car. I am nearly 60 now so born at a time when it was normal to put in neutral at traffic lights. Those days are long gone.

I had customer driving instructor, he used Mini Metros in their day. Would buy new every 150, 000 miles. I asked how many clutches did you get through, he said non. All lasted 3-4 years and 150k miles.

Wear and tear item . Decent understanding buyer with grey matter between the ears . Buyer is now goona have peace of mind brand new clutch. I checked Wifeys little Noddy Car 'matiz' for her few days ago as she said clutch peddle was biting high, i put it into high gear at Low soeed , like 4th gear at 30mph and floored the accelerator, it picked up soeed , no excessive revs without power..all good

Better the clutch right now than after the warranty comes to an end for the customer .Maybe time to get one of those coffee pod tassimo machines in for in case a customer wants a drink while waiting Oh and that steering wheel try and source a decent one from a breakers would be the best plan of action

I've seldom had breakdowns in my cars, (none since the 90's) so I could say I never had repair bills. But since the mid 90's they all had regular maintenance and preventative replacements done on all of them, which probably cost me more by replacing worn but not yet broken parts. Own a car... know it will wear out.

Problem with 69k miles cars mate, most things are going for the first time, tbh your maybe better at 100k with plenty of new parts on, unfortunately people don't understand that and think 50,60k cars are mint, clutch going is right on the money at that miles.

Isn't it the master cylinder or linkage to the clutch that is defective rather than the clutch itself as you drove it back to the garage in 1st gear.

Tbh at that miles it's probably original clutch, I've not had a master cylinder go for years it's nearly always the consentric slave, on one the other week dual mass was worn and piston went too far and popped out, instant no clutch.

It probably was the master cylinder in the first instance. That could've been a problem for a while that put too much stress on the clutch! At least your customer was being realistic!
