Never had a problem like that on a Range Rover but I had a BMW that would go into limp mode when it was under more strain than normal for a long time. Turned out to be an overheating transmission and a change of ATF fluid and whatever else they do to service an auto box fixed it. Food for thought maybe? That service also made it shift a lot smoother overall.

Get the gun oil out and service the shotgun barrels-Winter is looming large and sadly will bring a tad of warranty issues Prep some land on your property while the ground is still soft ready for the body burials-In my experience the old bill will not want to dig in frosty/frozen soil. Tbh that car was sold to her with an advisory free mot, she'd not expect it to be basically a death trap, 23 fails and advisories on next mot, virtually no brakes, dangerous corrosion, poor welding, a fail on it's previous test surely, no wonder the trader bought it back, you can't withhold peoples consumer rights by getting them to sign something. The major problem is that cars seriously rusty, a death trap and as a dealer it's not a small claims court, you'd actually end up being criminally prosecuted, I'm amazed that James has got involved,he wants to get some sense tbh.

On the jimney if he'd have sold with over 6 mths test he would have been in the clear, it's a problem as he's sold a totally unroadwothy car, so probably best to buy back. At least you got 3495 on that 500,i only got 1695 for mine at the weekend, I'd got 1900 in it and it was a minter, I think the problem is they cost a lot to buy trade, pretty fragile and when they're done they look expensive for an old car. I'm just getting another done that I've had since 2019, like yours it's had an alternator, that blew the dash(!) I'll loose on that as well, tbh I don't think I'll be buying any more.

Theses old Jimny's are brilliant off road, some proper wheels & off road tyres & you are good to go Green laneing, as you say rust is the issue on earlier models, that is the rear chassis rails where the back axle mounts just rot away, which seems a bit at odds with a Japanese made vehicle, however all Japanese made vehicles are not what they used to be anymore👍

Look at the air intakes in the Bonnet they use plastic bags in the intakes in the bonnet near the hinges these can move and cause issues. Might explain your engine light.

There seems to be a bit of a misunderstanding about trade sales. A trade sale is just that. It's between to entities in the motor trade ,it was established quite a few years in court. A car was sold as a trade sale and developed faults. It went to court and the purchaser was asked about her experience in the motor trade to which the reply was , none, I'm a teacher... The same can be applied to you friend who sold the Jimny, how much welding is required at the mot ? £100 or £1000. As you say they love to rot ,I saw one of similar age but less mileage come down from Scotland, it was like a lace curtain underneath ! So spares and repairs. A difficult path to tread in sales but sadly people want a Rolls Royce for the price of a Mini and will exploit you.

I had a 322 that went into limp mode when putting demand on the engine it turned out to be a split in the turbo air inlet it also showed black exhaust on acceleration. Hope that helps.

The Jimny has a 4wd fault flashing on the dashboard...... On a 2006 listen for gearbox noises, the bearings fail and supposedly good second hand gearboxes are stupid money. They are easy enough to rebuild though if they haven't taken any gears out once you have the gearbox out- which is awkward.

James what do you think of the ford focus/c max ? I just serviced my 2008 c max today (petrol of course 😉) and I tell you what I have never seen such a clean underside of an engine block . There was no oil leaks at all around the gearbox and engine . I just thought that a trader like yourselves would be buying and selling a lot more of these cars as they are so good and reliable. Anything pre 2010 that is 😉.

You need to be so, so careful bud with rusty old cars, there's a court case ongoing now over an old ka with a rusty fuel tank, look it up on car dealer magazine on line, that suzuki has an advisory for a rusty tank and fuel lines. Just stop buying rusty old s**t that needs loads of work, especially with a bent test(last one) your doing late cars with good profit, you really don't need all this. You probably think I'm going on about it, but you need to be sensible, stop buying everything that's offered, do your checks first as well before buying. Tbh I'd put that suzuki on e Bay with the mot failure, stating trailer away, then it's best bid takes it, you've got a good business, protect it.

It has been used for parking caravans at a storage site. It is a warning not to buy it, as they will have been using it in low range on tarmac with the steering on lock, which will put massive strain on the CV joints. Alternatively it has been used for launching boats, which is a warning not to buy it as it will have been in salt water. either way, it has to come off before sale!

Could never understand why Suzuki Jimnys hold their value so we'll. Look how much the later 1 is going for over what they cost after they stopped selling them. Theirs someone in Lincolnshire importing brand new 24 Jimnys think the very top of the range & the Japanese version have better equipment with less than 50 miles are £23 grand which is still cheaper than an original UK car which maybe 3 or 4 years old. I've seen them from £25,000 upto £30grandish. With the older cars as they are renown for rust you would think owners had them waxoyled or at least under sealed to help prevent the rot.

​​@@IainSTARGAZERbull bars need to be a "soft fit" from 2007 meaning they are just really for show and have no real strength and not fixed to the chassis. The one on my Grand Vitara is only fitted to the plastic bumper, if it was hit it would give way and breakaway from/break the bumper therefore reducing injuries to a pedestrian. As that car is 06 its probably legal for it to be fitted.

​​​​​​@@ColinCarFanMaybe look at it's fail sheet. It's already had botched repairs and previous fails/advisories on corrosion, they couldn't even test the brakes on it. It will need to get good money as it will cost a fortune to fix, it needs more than a couple of patches. It also failed on brakes, brake pipes, ballpoints, fuel tank corroded, wheel bearings....imo it's too far gone but if someone wants throw money at it good luck to them. I certainly wouldn't buy it even with a full mot knowing it's history....I fix them, I hate scrapping cars but they all get to a point where repairs are uneconomical or will be an ongoing problem every mot. Nobody is having a go at anyone, just being practical...I've seen the way they rot, to weld them you need something good to weld to, once you start knocking the rust back they're usually alot worse than you thought. That would be a fuel tank off and interior stripped out to weld safely.... I'd be surprised if a busy garage even wanted to tackle it considering the time it would be taking up workshop space when they could be doing easier jobs. That's a car for an enthusiast to play about with at their leisure or a breaker imo.

Just looked at mot fails and advisories on that suzuki, you must be crazy to get involved with that, it's a proper death trap mate, to think all this started because you bought an aygo unseen from bca, when you saw the state of the aygo you should have just scraped it bud, don't buy unseen, as a respectable dealer don't get involved in rusty wrecks, tbh using it at your farm is the best idea, if I was moors I'd not be thanking you for dropping that on me. Tbh mate you really, really need to start thinking about what your buying, you've got very serious rust, fuel pipes, brakes, leaking hub seals, I've seldom read a worse failure and I used to restore classic cars, on death traps trading standards will criminally prosecute you, bang goes your reputation, do yourself a massive favor and put it in your garden.

Yes unfortunately, a trader recently got time for selling a rusty yaris, same situation, customer went for mot a few months later and found to be dangerous, big no, no underbody rust and selling it.

I don’t blame the Woman for sending it back. How is it possible an advisory free MOT a year later 13 failures & 12 advisories?? You’re dealer mate done her over or try to. Thanks to consumer law, she escaped a death trap.

In fairness. My F30 2017 335D BMW went in for an MOT 2 months ago, passed with ZERO advisories. Took it in for some non-essential work at a BMW indie garage and they found the rocker gasket leaking oil onto the exhaust and the DPF, causing a fume like smell in the car. Leaking rear shock absorbers, a totally shot and corroded front lower control arm bushing, and the handbrake cable clip had snapped so it was resting against the transmission, and would rattle against it if you suddenly accelerated away from a stop. So somehow an MOT tester missed a completely shot lower control arm bushing (leaking oil and was quite clearly loose as hell) Missed a significant oil leak, with oil dripping down onto the exhaust and DPF, and collecting on the under tray beneath the car which is a soft material meaning you could visibly see the staining from the leak. Missed worn shock absorbers Also missed missing gators AND missed badly bent front brake shields (as if the car had been dropped onto the ground with no front wheels on) I fail to see how any of those are "not advisories".

You've swopped a aygo that you've spent loads on, got it motd, I presume, probably stood you at 2.2k or more? You've swopped it for a death trap with no mot, forget what it might be after loads and load of work and see it how it is today, scrap, so it's 250 quid mate, crazy deal. Your trader mates very lucky the woman didn't go to trading standards, he got off lightly buying it back, but then along comes saint James to bail him out.

@wellingboroughnorthants2228 thing is James probably had 2.5k in the aygo he swopped, so yes even at a grand it's not the best deal. How James is he's not going to sell it as it is anyway, but I agree they've got a good following. It's not worth his reputation and possible prosecution selling that on, it's gone from advisory free, current (!) mot to 23 fails and advisories.
