If its a Helicoil like a thread water pipe it should have rubber inserts into pipe where any jubilee clips are. Or when dry silicone sealant should be used in the thread part of hose. As water follows up the thread etc. Cheers from old George

I feel your pain. I've done 3 T2s, a T4 and a T5. I hate plumbing! And have wasted so much time stepping up and stepping down pipe runs. I now just buy an 'all in one kit' from Autocraft Motor Caravans, that way it all just fits out of the box. I am in no way affiliated with them, but do rate them. Keep up the good work, you're making progress, and at the end of the day ... that's all that matters 👍

Improvising pipe joints is always hard. I had to do it a lot in my last job. The braided hose is very good though. Use a heat gun to warm it up and stretch it over tight fittings. That ribbed hose is generally used for pumping where you might draw a vacuum and suck it closed.

How much amperage do you need out of the lithium? 20A probably. Just fit a 20A fuse at the lithium and then use a 20A capable cable.
@robiniddon7582
@robiniddon7582 Жыл бұрын
Also I would run a negative cable from the lithium back to the DCDC charger. You ideally want the battery charge current to go out and back the same route as it were. The risk is that if you lose the chassis connection some other random earth path will become the return path for the charging current and melt.
@ItsOhJoe
@ItsOhJoe Жыл бұрын
Yeah we’ll probably take 20a max, just thinking of future proofing incase someone installs an inverter at-least the cables are up to the max that the battery can put out Yeah it’s strange with these non isolated DC units but they recommend not doing it, I can see the sense to do it though!
@robiniddon7582
@robiniddon7582 Жыл бұрын
@@ItsOhJoe I guess even a 1KW inverter requires more or less the full 100A. But with a 100A cable comes the need for 100A fuse at the battery! If you use the chassis as the earth path (So connect leisure bat neg to chassis and also charger neg to chassis) be sure to keep the positive cable run close to the chassis.

I used to race an Uffa Fox designed Swordfish built by Fairey Marine. It was a beautiful, fast little boat, built of Agra veneer laid in 3 alternating layers on a mould. Sadly it ceased production in 1957. You should try sailing. You would enjoy it. There are clubs which specialise in dingy sailing.

@@ItsOhJoe Thankyou for taking us into Bristol last week. I was born in Southmead hospital. I left Bristol in 1947 when my parents moved to Yorkshire. Just picked up on something you said about doubling the cables on the narrowboat. Just had a look at the episode, it appears you "sistered" the supply to the inverter? Considered a no-no in electrical installation. Reason, if a fault or one of the terminals corrodes causing a resistance issue then only one of the cables will be taking the current causing a possible overload condition.
@ItsOhJoe
@ItsOhJoe Жыл бұрын
I thought the same but it’s as per Victron’s instructions - there’s even twin terminals on the inverter for the twin cables. Seemed crazy but just following their recommendations
@ItsOhJoe
@ItsOhJoe Жыл бұрын
"*** “2x” means two positive and two negative cables" - page 13 on the installation guide, looks like they've updated the newer models to single posts though, make of that what you will! www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/MultiPlus-II_230V/32424-MultiPlus-II___Quattro-II_120V-230V-pdf-en.pdf

@@ItsOhJoe Yeah, as a matter of interest I searched the manual and noted the table. Why a company like Victron fly in the face of sound established electrical practice seems a bit worrying. The usual caveat with "sistering" cables is that each cable should be capable of handling the total load which rather adds cost for no real benefit.

30:37 - That upper connection is not good. You can't use a jubilee clamp to seal a hose to hose connection. The inner part (a hose) is flexible so the clamp has nothing solid to push the outer part against to make a good seal. (Your "about 19 mil" is probably 3/4 inch.)

Sadly looks like a money pit I would love a camper van but would need some serious skills to attempt what your attempting. I’m all for saving money if possible but that van would way way beyond me. I think I would be too fearful to use it for fear of it breaking down mechanically or structurally. Can you even get breakdown cover for it from a breakdown company? Are the possible costs of increased premiums of cover worth the cost savings of doing the van up yourself? 🤔 Enjoying the vlogs 👍🙂

Yeah I think you have to be a bit of an enthusiast to tackle anything like this or older. Since it’s been in the garage is starts, drives and runs great I’d trust it more than a fair share of modern vehicles to be fair, and when it breaks down (when not if!) then it’s usually relatively simple mechanics. We looked at breakdown cover for the Balkan trip and it wasn’t actually too bad, I don’t think very different than our much newer Sprinter. But yeah it’s needed a lot more work than we anticipated but I think every projects like that
