Critics and skeptics of the Bible have often charged that the Bible is full of contradictions. In this engaging presentation, Tim Chaffey shows that God’s Word can be trusted from beginning to end, and although it does have some difficult passages, it does not contain any contradictions. Many of the common mistakes of the critics are explained and answered. Tim also describes why God allowed these difficulties into His Word, and using several examples, he teaches believers how to deal with these Bible difficulties.
Tim Chaffey is the content manager for the Ark Encounter. He speaks regularly at the Creation Museum, camps, schools, and churches, and has authored numerous books.

Another great presentation. I used to be one of those who said “fallible men wrote the Bible therefore it cannot be true”. Then I came to the Lord, and actually started reading His Word. I’ve read it thru multiple times and it is the most wonderful, inspired Book ever! The Bible truly is the Word of God. It is alive, never out of date, Gods love letter to mankind. 35:04

fallible men wrote the Bible therefore it cannot be true”. Well no , some of it CAN be true , just depend what you " interrupt " as metaphorical and real .. but if it was infact inspired by God him self , it should be prescient , for instance , if it said " and God then created 7 additional world , that will revolve around the sun .. THEN ,, that would be truly a revelation , of a great rock from the heavens will destroy , great beats of all the land . or even a reference to ice age .. ALL of that is known .. and could NOT have been known at the time of the bible . just ask questions, and try to remember , NOT ALL THE Answers are in the bible ..

@cyrus look into the Hebrew perhaps , as well as some translations have minor discrepancies but we can rest assure we have many historical manuscripts where we can go back and look into the “supposed” error. Even if in some of the manuscripts, a scribe for example made a error in a number, we can go back and see where there are differences and correct them or address them at least. Everytime I hear about a “contradiction” in the Bible it’s always something like a number being different, bring a stronger argument next time kid.

@@Bruhwthecomb Ok, how’s about the fact that all four (canonical) gospels disagree on such things as when Jesus was born (Herod or Quirinius’ reign), Jesus’ last words, who went to the tomb, who was at the tomb, or even how long he was dead for (Friday noon - Sunday morning ≠ 3 days). Even details like who Jesus’ grandfather was (Jacob in Matthew 1:16, or Heli in Luke 3:23), how he recruited his disciples, how Judas committed suicide, or even where he ascended (Bethany or Mt. I still come up with new questions and I love finding gold nuggets of interesting answers, sometimes years after first pondering something. You know what, i grew up in the 70s Back then religious statements were different, a common one was GOD IS LOVE and here is the thing... People used to just say it, Now you need to understand SAYING IT DOES NOT NECESSARILY MAKE IT TRUE but hey... When they said GOD IS LOVE at least it sounded like it was true so.. we just rolled with it but what your'e saying is incorrect and completely stupid and you should have a better grasp of your own religion . Jesus is NOT God my friend Jesus is the son of god God is the Father and the Creator Now... i already know what you're going to say in your defense but i'm going to make a cup of coffee in preparation then i'm going to let you say it and then i'll tell why that is incorrect as well (oh .. and i'll use the bible to prove it) even though using the bible to prove something is idiotic) it is the way that christians like to prove things Now i'm going to make a prediction ok You're gonig to say Jesus is god I'm going to say No he's not You're going to show something in the bible that says that jesus said that he is and then i'm going to explain why it's not now... we can agree i'm sure that you believe the bible is teh word of god, (Even though it's not) but YOU BELIEVE IT IS and as such you respect and follow the word i'm then going to show you that THE BIBLE itself says that what you're doing is wrong and as a result if you continue you will be eternally damned and go to hell Now.. one would think if you follow the bible and i prove this to you via the bible you would stop doing it but.. Here is my prediction YOU'RE GOING TO KEEP DOING IT ANYWAY NOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS ??? It means that religion doesn't matter it means that christians don't actualy care about religion they don't actually care about the bible or god or what god or jesus said You know what they do care about ? WHATEVER THEY MAKE UP ON THE DAY I'm going to predict that that is going to happen either that or You're going to completely ignore this and go away 1 of those 2 things always happen I would rather you responded so i can show you your mistake (i won't be rude, but i will show you your mistake) the question is.. How do we combat passages where God declares He put a strong delusion on man? Is causing people to be disillusioned the same as lying?
@chavoux
@chavoux Жыл бұрын
This is found in one of the letters written to Thessalonica. And it tells us why God send the delusion. It is only sent on those who already rejected the truth, as punishment. And no, just as hardening the hearts of those who have hardened their hearts already is simply confirming what they have already decided, so it is that those who reject the truth, will be deluded and believe the lie (the lie is not told by God, but by the spirit of the anti-christ, but God will let those who rejected his truth be deluded by it).
@justthink8952
@justthink8952 11 ай бұрын
Very good observation. The text itself implies that it is God who put delusion on whom he wishes in the first place (predestination) but we also know that God created man with freewill. Therefore, it is most probable that the writer was carried away and did not provide his reasons for saying how God put delusion on man. The reader has to insert his interpretation into the text to justify as to how God is not the one who put delusion in the first place. The example will be that of the Pharaoh of Egypt who did not want to let Israelites go and God hardened his heart such that the Pharaoh was punished severely for his opposition.

Answer from Christians: the gospels where written from different perspectives. The problem with this answer is it only leaves you with more questions. Isn’t the Bible supposed to be inspired by god? How did someone get facts wrong if they were inspired by god (because one of the accounts has to be wrong). How do we know who got it wrong? How do we know that the writers didn’t get other details wrong? Atheist answer: the first book was written 20-40 years after the supposed events in the gospels. And the subsequent gospels were written roughly 20 years apart from one another and their authors are unknown, despite what preachers say. Each book was a retelling of the same story but for a different audience, it’s kinda like how Disney is remaking all their classics in live action, and the plot of these movies are roughly the same, but with different details. These are facts btw, supported by evidence. If you don’t believe me I would recommend googling “who wrote the gospels”

Two walls, with a system to entrap all evil doers and easily kill them. You enter one door, but face a second door still closed in front of you. They can lock the gate behind you and now what? What the bible is, it's a collection of poems, parables direct messages and historical events. Written by multiple people over a long period of time. The thing is that all those people are said to have been divinely inspired by God. So if you say that the bible is contradicting itself, it means that God has given conflicting messages and that would bring his Judgement as a perfect God. Rather, the more logical thing I said was that those people are writing from their perspective, within the time they are in. So that means there will be different specifics to the same issue or they will be a problem of mistranslations due to differences in languages. There could not have been wind on the Earth before light. How could a 'dome' separate the waters into two regions? What was this dome composed of? How was the dome maintained above the earth's gravity? The 'waters' are not gathered into one place. Water exist in three states and even if the earth was too warm for ice water vapor would exist in the atmosphere. Furrhermore, the 'waters' are found in a myriad number of fresh water lakes, streams, and ponds. Water is also found below the ground as ground water, in soils, and in the bodies of plants, microbes, and animals. Water could not possibly be drawn into one place- that's absurd. The earth could not simply put forth vegetation because the first photosynthesizers existed in the ocean. The green plants are a monophyletic group which evolved from the Chlorophyceae (green algae). How can plants be produced before sunlight anyway? PREPOSTEROUS! The Sun and moon are apparently placed in the 'dome' but the 'dome' separates the waters above from that below. How is this possible? After making fish and 'sea monsters!' and birds God makes all the rest of the living things presumably worms as well as insects, etc...Why did He make the 'creepers' after the birds and fish? Then He makes us in 'OUR' image. Apparently this implies more than one God. All a nice myth suitable for fourth graders. Nothing about this story can remotely plot to reality.

"You first need to have one angel if there are two". "Use the clear passages in scripture to help interpret unclear ones. But instead of taking the clear passage of scripture that says "just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive" and MANY other Bible verses clearly supporting Universal Reconciliation, he just jumps to eternal concious torment. BIG issue here: 1:00 the passage from I Timothy 3:16 does not in any way read, "The Bible is the Word of God." Doesn't matter what translation, the Greek in all texts just read, "Scriptures" or "Holy texts"....this is distinguished as separate from the Word of God as detailed in John chapter 1. If I'm mistaken, someone explain with the Bible wherein it reads that said Bible is the Word of God. Scripture defines scripture, right? Edit: To be clear, I follow Yeshua. I do believe inerrancy of scripture. I also know I Timothy 3:16 is absolutely in agreement with God's Word. Where I differ & disagree is defining the Bible as the literal Word of God. The Word of God is solely possessed within the person of Jesus Messiah. Furthermore, just as a photograph or painted portrait is not the actual person, merely a shadow, a representation, an image of the actual real person, so too is the Bible in regards to the Word of God/Jesus the Christ. At best the Bible is a slight piece of the Word of God, but in no way is it whole or complete. Only Jesus Messiah is the complete Truth & Word of God, which the Bible exists to point us toward. Paul teaches this concept clearly in Hebrews, Romans, & Corinthians - shadows, teachers, & instructors that are fully revealed in the mystery of the Gospel - in the person of Jesus the Christ - the whole of God's Torah is written in our hearts...not the Bible! The Holy Spirit leads us into all Truth...not the Bible! Jesus is the Word of God...not the Bible!

The patriarchs, Abraham, Noah, Jacob, etc. were Caananites and worshipped a council of gods with El at the head, he had a wife/consort Ashera and his council of gods included Baal, Mot, Yam, Ashtar, Shahar and many others who all had different duties and responsibilities, collectively called the Elohim, you see evidence of this in the names of people and places, ie Isra-el, Dani-el etc. etc. It wasn’t until around 500-600BCE, during the Babylonian exile that the banished priests began worshipping Yahweh, a monotheistic deity. They rewrote the old myths and legends to urge the Israelites to worship the new god concept. That’s why there are two creation accounts, two flood stories, two sets of Ten Commandments. Genesis 1 to Genesis 2 verse 3 is the account of the Elohim creating the heavens and earth, in the Hebrew Bible it calls them the Elohim, translated simply as ‘god’ in the English versions. “Then god (Elohim) said, let us (plural) make mankind in our (plural) image, in our (plural) likeness”. Genesis 2 1 “Thus the heavens and earth were completed” and the account finishes with the Elohim resting on the seventh day. Then Genesis 2 verse 4 begins the story again with Yahweh (translated as ‘Lord god’ or ‘Lord’) as the creator. “This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the Lord god (Yahweh) made the earth and the heavens”. After the conversion to monotheism the worship of the old gods was frowned upon, statues of Ashera were smashed and burnt, and her name removed from the biblical record, and in Kings, Elijah tests the priests of Baal before discrediting and slaughtering them for worshipping the gods that their own ancestors, the patriarchs, worshipped. Psalm 82: El (god) has taken his place in the divine council, among the Elohim (gods) he judges.

"The bible has no contradiction" people say, well James 2 talks about the issue with faith without works and Ephesians 2 talks about the issue with works without faith. (I am saying this in chronological order here)
@-Joku_-
@-Joku_- Жыл бұрын
Good point! But there is a clear distinction between them. James talking about faith without works, is talking about if someone really has faith, then the byproduct of this should be wanting to do work. If someone really believes that God has saved their life, then they should want to live life for him, and do his will (works). But Ephesians 2 is talking about that it is by the grace of God that saves us, not our good works. Good works cannot get you into heaven, they are like filthy rags to God. But a sign of a true believer, is that they are still doing the good works, not because they have to, but because true believers want to, they are changed and transformed. So to summarize, we get to heaven by grace, through faith alone. But to know if someone really believes, they want to do good works. If they aren’t doing those works, it’s a sign that you don’t believe.

@@-Joku_- So if you are a paraplegic who is also a mute and can't tell anyone about the gospel you can't be save as you literally can do nothing? Right? Or is it because James is written to twelve tribes scattered abroad whom he was instructed to minister to and Eph is written by the apostle to the gentiles? If it's like you say, then what do you do with Romans 4:5? "But to him who worketh not." We are in the dispensation of grace and James is not talking about boy scout good deeds but good works according to the law. We are saved by grace through faith and no works apply. Further more one can ruin salvation by assuming they need to do good works. Gal 5:4 Ye are fallen from grace. 2 Tim 2:15 "rightly divide" The Gospel for today is found in 1 Cor 15:1-4. It does not include works.
@-Joku_-
@-Joku_- Жыл бұрын
@@timothymichaels6873 I’m literally not arguing that, I’m saying that works are of no use for salvation. But, as James is talking about, a indication of someone that is saved, good works will follow. Take the illustration of good tree, and bad tree. The good tree produces good fruit, and cannot produce bad fruit, but the bad tree cannot produce good fruit; only bad. This is addressing people who say the sinners prayer, but keep living their life style, aren’t transformed, won’t inherit the kingdom of God. This is Jesus, in John 3:3 “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” Also, yes, it’s according to your ability? Someone who can’t do anything, then this “test” that scripture gives us won’t work for them. But if you can walk, and can talk, and can spread the gospel, and you aren’t, then, to reiterate, that is a sign someone isn’t really following Jesus. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” Godbless

@@timothymichaels6873 the thief on the cross was saved , without baptism, without works , purely on faith. This is an old argument. The bottom line is if you take the grace of God for granted and have the kind of heart that doesn't grieve over sin then you really don't have the heart of God. Not that you won't sin. I do, every human in the flesh does. The flesh wars against the spirit and the spirit wars against the flesh. If you take pleasure in sin with no inner grief knowing that you're not being true to your own spirit and that of The Lord, then your faith wasn't a living faith. It didn't continue to grow. I can put a seed on wet paper towel and it'll pop open and you see a difference in the original seed. But if no care is given and no desire to nurture that seed. And it doesn't matter one way or the other because you're perfectly content believing that the seed will still save your life by feeding you, then you really didn't have the seeds best interest in your heart. You didn't truly value what you'd been given and it was dead. He's saying faith without works is dead, not that your salvation is based on works, but as evidence of faith that was superficial and not important, not a saving faith, then that faith is dead. I give you a coconut. I tell you that if you believe everything that I tell you is true about that coconut, it'll feed you forever. You say that sounds great. You take it home and do nothing with it. And you throw it in the trash. And years later you're starving to death and you blame me for letting you starve. And I say if you honestly believed everything about that coconut, you would have cared for it the way that taught you. So either you didn't believe that it would one day feed you, or you never had the desire to see your faith through. That is not saving faith. Because while you might skip months without watering that seed. As you see it languishing it pains you that you're so careless with such a great gift. So you repent and you tend it and then you slide again into doing other things but all the while in your heart you know that you're neglecting that coconut. This is the weirdest analogy but but whatever. True saving faith is demonstrated by works. Paraplegic mute deaf dumb blind on a deserted island blah blah blah.... none of which apply to you so it's ridiculous hypothetical rhetoric..... IF that was the case... you could still silently pray everyday for lost souls, you could still intercede in prayer for people that push you around in your wheel chair and spoon feed you you could pray and God would use you to accomplish everything that He chose to do so because your limitations have nothing to do with God's purpose. God uses rocks to glorify Him.

Amazingly creative, how he worms his way around these contradiction. The best statement here 'The Bible doesn't tell us." Ain't that the truth! Here are some contradictions. I wouldn't sat that these are especially significant; for example, whether the Last Supper served bread first, then wine or vice versa. But it does show that the Bible isn't inerrant. What a ludicrous idea. Try reading some Biblical scholars like Marcus Borg or John Dominic Crossan. Was the Last Supper a Passover Meal? The idea that the Last Supper was a Passover meal celebrating the sacrifice of a lamb to save the Hebrews while they were in captivity in Egypt is regarded as an important connection between Christianity and Judaism. Not all gospel authors agreed on this, though. Mark 14:12, Matthew 26:17, Luke 22:7 - The Last Supper occurs on the first day of Passover John 19:14 - The Last Supper occurs the day before, and Jesus is crucified on the first day of Passover Jesus Predicts His Betrayal During the Last Supper It’s important that Jesus is betrayed to his enemies, and Jesus knows this, but when does he tell the others? Mark 14:17-21, Matthew 26:20-25, John 13:21-30 - Jesus predicts his betrayal before the communion portion of the Last Supper Luke 22:21-23 - Jesus predicts his betrayal after the communion portion of the Last Supper Order of Communion During the Last Supper The establishment of the communion celebration is perhaps the most important aspect of the Last Supper, so why can’t the gospels agree on the order? Mark 14:22-25, Matthew 26:26-29 - The order of communion: bread, then wine Luke 22:17-20 - The order of communion: wine, then bread John - There is no communion during the Last Supper Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial During the Last Supper Peter’s three-time denial of Jesus is an important aspect of the gospel stories, but none of the stories agree on what Jesus predicted he would do. Mark 14:30 - Jesus predicts that Peter will deny him before the cock crows twice Matthew 26:34, Luke 22:34, John 13:38 - Jesus predicts that Peter will deny him before the cock crows Cite this Article Look at how this guy twists in the wind to make obvious contradictions somehow reconcile.

@@helioselexandros Sigh. It is true that some inconsistencies are minor, but on the other hand, doesn't it seem significant that the DAYS around the crucifixion are not in agreement among the authors? Besides, my whole point is that the Bible CLEARLY isn't inerrant, as some claim. (Another example, the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew leaves out some folks; plus the fact that it's organized in convenient groups of 14 seems suspiciously tidy.) As for Jesus being predicted, read some scholarly work. The writers of the NT (and remember, we don't know who the Gospel writers even were, and many of Paul's "letters" are not by him, as scholars will point out) wrote their work AFTER the life of Jesus (obviously) and therefore had every reason and opportunity to make their narrative fit with what the Old Testament "prophets" said. You need to know Gebrew for this. In the Tenach in the first book "Beresjiet" (In the beginning) also called Genesis there is only one particular Hebrew word used for the word "day" and that is "Yom". In Hebrew the word "Yom" always means 24 hours. Problem solved.

A day to us is one rotation of the earth. Time has no bearing on God. I believe the heaven in verse 1 includes sun, moon stars and other planets. We find in other bible scripture this is the case. Just as the earth was without form and void, and and so would be the case for the heaven. God said let there be light. God gave light to the stars. Has the earth made a rotation yet? Is the earth even rotating yet? Nothing has been put in order yet. God Concentrates on the earth. The book of Psalms 104:2 "Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:". When did God do this? On day 4. He had already created them, He put them in order to be for signs and seasons.

YES, exactly, the Gospels are eye witness accounts, and like all witness accounts, they differ on minor details. God said in Deuteronomy that you need 2 or 3 witnesses to establish a fact, so He provides 4!

I have faith that the Bible has many contradictions. My faith is the evidence. Sarcasm doesn't translate well in comments, so stated more clearly: Faith is a bad reason to believe anything because you can believe anything using faith.

If you really dug deep you find that Jesus has more eyewitnesses to him then any other historical figure. And there is intact books written that support the evidence of his resurrection.

@@dustygatrell-ru7tg There are claims that eye witnesses saw him but these weren't written by eyewitness. There's no evidence he was written about by anyone who was live when Jesus supposedly lived. There are no books outside of the Bible about his resurrection.

"Let There Be Light' , God's light into the canvass that HE was about to create seems most lightly. NOT light as we know it. That came later. ALL of Creation, holds God's Spirit, but the first human, Adam was made to live by having GOD breathe His spirit into his first created human.

Norma Hopkin: For the record, there are 17 English translations of the Bible at Blue Letter Bible, and every one of them are translated to say that God breathed the breath of life into the man. None of them say anything about God breathing his Spirit into the man. Gen. 2:7. I love the clarity of God we gain when we go back and carefully check what the infallible words of God actually say, like the Bereans did when Paul spoke to them. Acts 17:10-11.
