IMO the most impressive advancement in video camera tech isn’t the resolution but the dynamic range. Today, you can have incredible detail in both the highlights and the shadows at the same time. Back then, you had the choice between blown out highlights or pressing that backlight button and getting blown out everything

and the price ! When I see what my $300 phone is capable of doing video wise, I'm amazed. We basically have broadcast quality cameras in our pockets.

These kind of cameras are awesome. The IR features alone are still hard to find in modern gear. Let alone a dedicated device with real f stops for home videos.

Indeed, sometimes I wonder about using one in a darkroom to finally be able to show things that are usually done in the dark

@@MrAnalogDan12 That’s an idea. Tape over the harsh IR led on the camera, and replace it with an IR light with a softbox (if those even exist lol). Would be crazy to see a decent lighting set up/angle using that mode of the sensor.

I'm here because i just find my old sony handycam DCR-HC30, it's even oldre, from 2004, it uses mini DV Casettes and memory sticks with sorage messured in MB. I wanted to have some idea of what kind of videos i could record with it 19 years later. Thank you!.
