Putting out more quality skate content than the rest of KZbin combined. This stuff is gold for beginner vert skaters, thanks Mitchie.

This tutorial changed how I skate completely. I’m able to do longer lines in bowls and skate faster then ever before with pumping like this. I used to pump like the incorrect way shown in the video and let me tell you it takes a lot of energy out of you pumping the incorrect way. and as Mitchie explains it doesn’t help you with speed. With this correct way of pumping my legs are sore. With the incorrect way I would get exhausted but I would never feel it in my legs. If your making this mistake. Please take the next couple sessions and hyper focus on dropping in and pumping. Really make sure you keep your arms by your side and just focus on your legs, especially if your having the tendency of swinging your arms like a kid swinging their feet on a swing set

That’s a fair point, yeah it’s gonna make your legs way more sore. And you’ll feel it in brand new places on your legs, but mannnnn it’s so goood when you get it

This video genuinely changed skating for me, watch this video and getting good at pumping from a half pipe to a flat incline is the best way to get confident on a board and get more confident with going down ramps. Best slating video out there

Up, down or around curves, “pumping” is the same physics principle aka “angular momentum”. Moving mass towards the centre of the circle causes acceleration and best described as “go in small, come out tall”.

Here's how I think about it. When you lift yourself up after squatting, you temporarily weigh more because you're PUSHING against the ground. The transition essentially converts your weight into forward momentum if you're going down the quarter pipe (vertical if you're going up it). This is unique to the transition; if your weight increases or decreases while you're on vert or on flat, nothing happens. So when you pump, you're essentially rolling faster because as far as the ramp is concerned, you're heavier than you actually are.
@jookbj2 ай бұрын
You want the most potential energy before and after you hit the ramp. When you stand straight you have the most potential energy. When you're crouched, you have the most kinetic energy. So pump yourself by bending your knees before the transition and pump yourself back by bending knees when you hit the height of your transition and about to roll back. This works for both vertical and horizontal transition.

If this video had a comparision of the "going down" part it would be perfect. Outside of that, this is a game changer.

@@SKATEiQ I don't really skate much at all, but it's my best friend's favorite thing. I'm from Philly so we went to FDR Park one time and he tried to teach me pumping but I could already do it. Same with dropping in. Pretty much the entirety of the sport is just based in manipulating physics but instead of using my body like in parkour I'm manipulating an object which is the skateboard. That's why I tend to be good at anything that doesn't really require learning manipulation of the board

So as I go up the ramp from horizontal, my legs should be near fully extended, and then I bend them more as you near the top of the ramp, and then going back down, I gradually extend them putting my weight downward into the ramp. Is that an accurate description?
