Peaked at just a bit over 300 cameras at 23 years old! From 1800s box cameras to quirky spy cameras to Leicas, the art of cameras itself outside the practise of photography is enough for me to splurge money on!

Since I work in a classic camera store in Delft NL I have seen and held many of these camera's. Nice to see someone focus on specia; / important models from technical perspective, and not just the most valuable or nicest looking ones... Very good!

I love this story. His father would be extremely proud. The analysis that these cameras "tell a story of engineers solving a problem" is exactly correct. I also liked the thought the "the cameras are happy in the hands of photographers rather than sitting on shelves" - I, too, like to anthropomorphize objects. As an engineer myself, I collect mechanical cameras, watches, calculators, firearms, and other mechanical objects as well. I wish I could've met his father. Such a great story and outcome.

@arnaudsaudax267212 күн бұрын

What a beautiful idea. I love that he puts the cameras to good use and in that way they shine in a way that would never happen if they just sit there in the collection

Wow, wow and big wow! Brilliant! I think cameras, like other things, are fascinating from a technology POV because they're engineered precisely but they are then used to create beauty. The end product is a combination of left brain and right brain and when you put the two halves together you have a complete person. What a great way to honour your father. Well done

I am just about to sell my Leica M8 with 90mmF2 and Euro charger as used by Audrey Tautou in the Chanel Advert - she owned it for a long time after - given to her for the film by Jean Pierre Jeunet for their 3rd outing, the former being Amelie and A Very Long Engagement - if you search for the Ad you will see it in use - for the film they put a block of plastic over the M8 insignia - Jean chose this camera as it would not detract from the beauty of Audrey - the writing is on the top of the lens - had it a few years and it works like any Leica - ie flawlessly

Hmm, I have probably 500+ cameras of all types and styles in my basement. For 30 years now my hobby of choice has been repairing and restoring analog film gear. Maybe I could find someplace to give me space for a museum.. or I’ll stick with my original plan of getting them into the hands of other photographers. I’m 65, but I doubt that any of my children would want to deal with such a collection.
