In the mid 70's I worked on traffic signals for a short time. At that time we had 3 dial fixed time controllers they were made by Crouse Hinds Eagle Signal and Econolight. We also had hard wired interconnected signal systems controlled with a VOC VEHICLE OCCUPANCY COMPUTER. I would like to see you do more about signal systems in addition to isolated intersections. One more thing how do they cut round inductive loops?I see a lot of these in Indiana when I travel through Indiana.

@Trafficlightdoct Nice informative videos that bring back so many memories from my time working @ CofMemphis TSM. We had a few similar oversights over the years. One we had to use a similar method, but we used a hydraulic ram instead of sledge (we believed the ram had less impact stress on the anchor & foundation). Another one involved having to abandon the original anchor foundation due to the wrong sized diameter anchors being installed for a mast arm vertical pole. Couldn't take a sledge or ram to fix that issue. Ended up cutting off the anchors flush with the pavement and re-drilling a new foundation close by (it wasn't a good day). So lesson learned from that day going forward was that we definitely measured multiple times, used the correct bolt circle template (had several different ones)for the pole being used, and made sure we matched the correct anchors to their respective poles, since we dealt with many different sized poles.

Seems like oversights have become a new normal in every intustry.
@thomasashjr5478Ай бұрын
In Pennsylvania, the inspectors would not allow us to bang the anchor bolts into alignment. Remove foundation and redo.

What the inspector doesn’t know won’t hurt him.

So the current intersection looks fairly new. Why is it getting replaced?

Unrelated to this exact video, I always wonder while watching how many of the traffic signals I go by have these high tech (i.e. computers, cameras, etc) controls systems. Is it just the larger, newer intersections or rebuilds of an intersection. On the few peaks I have seen into the control boxes around here, it's just a tangle of wires!
@jovetjАй бұрын
Cameras and sensors are readily visible. You don't need a peek into a cabinet to tell they're there.
@BartlettTFDАй бұрын
In Memphis, TN virtually every intersection was converted from “loop” to camera sensor a few years ago.

@@BartlettTFD @BartlettTFD Hey I just wanted to reply to your comment on the City of Memphis video detection status at intersections. The suburb of Bartlett, TN (which I think you might be referring to instead of the actual City of Memphis - since Bartlett is in your YT name?) might be virtually all camera's by now, but Memphis still has more induction loop intersections compared to video loop intersections (as of 2020 when I retired from there). The city even has 150 +/- intersections (downtown)that are still fixed timed without any detection & those will mostly stay that way. The traffic signal department is making good progress with goals of "modernizing/upgrading" intersections to video, but budget and time (just within the city limits there are over 800 signalized intersections)are the limiting factors.

hey just a question. so what are some poles painted black and some are not? is there a coating to protect it?
@TrafficlightdoctorАй бұрын
All the poles will be galvanized then powder coated any color the city/state specs out. The powder coat is optional some will just keep the galvanized finish to keep cost a little lower.
@jovetjАй бұрын
It's the aesthetic the poles' owner wants. That's all.

Please clean the back of that drill truck. other than that great video! I saw you have some new thumbnails on a few of your recent videos, are those going to be more common? Personally I like the type this video has rather than the new red ones.

For sure needs to be cleaned! And thank you for the feedback on the thumbnails! Just trying to improve and see what works better!

How come the polls are so tall when the mast arm looks like it's halfway down the pole?
@lbj61234523 күн бұрын
highway lighting mast arm is usually added on top or gives the option in the future to do so.

after living in the Midwest for 20 years and seen signal lights supported by cables only why would they want to put post in like this video? Aren't they more of a hazard for vehicles leaving the roadway?
@jovetjАй бұрын
They look nicer, last longer, and require less maintenance.
@TheTrainWatchАй бұрын
Florida requires them in a certain distance of the coast because they are better for hurricanes. I also think they can be more visible.

@bozobobert first song is called "Light It Up" by Robin Hustin & TobiMorrow featuring Jex. I think it's a cool song and a great pick since the channel is all about traffic lights. 2nd song when they were trying to line up the pole and base is called "Round n' Round" by Clarx and Shiah Maisel
