You have to be a bit more than a casual to understand why the value was there for the Knicks to trade those picks for Bridges. The way the CBA is today you can't have more than maybe 2 max contracts on your team, Bridges may not be an all-star as of today, but his contract is VERY team friendly. If you compare it to Paul George for example hes being paid 30+ more mil a year. These types of contracts are what is so valuable to a team like the Knicks who are in win now mode. Its much more than just that as well with team chemistry, age and what not. It is a situation where the value is hard to see but it is 100% there.

Knicks got OG and Mikal for what it would have cost them to get Donovan Mitchell. And considering they should be real good over the next 4 or so years a majority of those picks will be in the mid to late rounds. Fit/need sometimes matter more than name. How many teams have 2 elite 3&D wings. Bridges is two years away from being dpoy runner up.

So context as a Raptors fan, one of the reasons they traded OG is that he reportedly wanted to more offensive responsibility that he wasn't getting with Siakim, VanFleet, and then with Barnes coming in. My guess is you don't trade 5 picks for another high quality 3+D small forward if they actually expect OG to stay.
@SoulGaleo1992
@SoulGaleo1992 3 ай бұрын
OG and Bridges can both start. If Paul George can play as a 6'8 shooting guard, then so can Bridges. Bridges is more of an off-the-dribble pull-up shooter anyways. Literally Paul George lite. Divenchenzo can come off the bench as your 6th man. The most shot attempts that OG averaged for a season in his career is 15. OG's strengths on offense is as a floor spacer, play finisher, and offensive rebounder. He's had ample opportunities to be "the guy" in Toronto post Khawhi. Thats just not his game, so i don't buy that rumor of him suddenly wanting to be heavily featured on offense. It's more believable that he wanted out because the Raptors were in no man's land and he could go to a better championship contender while still getting paid. Unless OG does something drastic, like firing his agent Sam Rose (son of Leon Rose the Knicks GM) he's most likely staying with the Knicks, assuming the Knicks don't lowball his market value.

During those yrs Jalen Brunson and Mikal will be 33-35 and Julius Randle will be 35-37. They don’t have any young emerging superstar on this roster to push the timeline thru and bc of the new cba rules between 2027 -2028 it makes it almost impossible for them to make big splash moves with future picks. Not to mention they’re coached by Tom thibs a guy who is known for shortening careers duo to the heavy workload he puts on players. This is essentially win a title in the next 2 seasons or we’re screwed

Overpay? Are you trolling or what? The NYK had like a zillion picks that they were NEVER going to use, especially with the coach they have who would not play the level of guys they would get for these picks. In fact, it was for this very reason they accumulated these picks. A 27 year old Bridges just coming into his prime, a perfect fit for the NYK culture-wise, the potential missing piece to not just a, but potentially multiple championships? I'll take that over a 35+ year old, looking at soon being washed (but still wants to get PAID) Paul George any day of the week. He'd be a better fit in Philly, especially after this just happened. Plus, those picks will probably be between 25 and 30 with as good as the NYK will be for the next several years, so big whoop. And good for the Nets as well. They were badly in need of a rebuild and this trade will help kickstart that.

Didn't dislike the trade for New York. But, you make good points about later year picks being unprotected & possibly the hard cap issue. Really should have moved Randle in for a few less picks in such a trade. Would have maybe allowed for option to sign a decent stretch big (Valancunias?) where they could play at least a soft five out scheme if they wanted. When you think about it. If Bridges really was worth five 1st round picks, would Brooklyn be open to trading him?

Also kind of interesting that puts them into a hard cap. Bojans contract was worth 19 mil a year. Arguably getting rid of Bojan was worth a pick for the Knicks. Detroit played worse with him. So did the Knicks, much worse.

The hate is real the Knicks kept all their players and gave them 4 unprotected picks and a pick that belongs to bucks so what about the bucks pick The Knicks have all their picks in today’s draft and 5 picks in the next 3 drafts after today’s. Remember they kept all the players on their team who are proven. Outside of the Thunder who had more draft picks than the Knicks?? The Knicks would have beaten the Celtics if they was healthy this past season. So a move like this really makes them the best team in the East and possibly the league. @@BanuxMVyes but their extension kicks in after next year. I would have preferred them seeing what the ceiling was with this roster with randle in the lineup , then make trades at the next deadline if need be . I get it though, this is insurance Incase og doesn’t sign , but it would have made more sense to see how this team performs with randle. This is just too a bit too early. I still don’t see them beating the Celtics. They have gotten a lot stronger though.

Mikal is a star and he’s the third for us now. The defense between him Mitch (if he doesn’t get traded) and OG. Plus the chemistry between the nova crew. Knicks had the second most first rounders behind okc. This was the match made in heaven and with this crew those picks aren’t going to be all roses like nets fans think. We still have more draft capital and 2 picks tonight. It’s a win win but ask any knick fan this was the long shot dream scenario. We got it.

I'm just glad we didn't get Paul George. great player, but too old and injury prone. Bridges is a perfect fit- young, can score and a great defender who's not injury prone. I wonder if Randle could be on the trade block now in order to keep OG and Ihart. i don't mind him staying either. I have a feeling the knicks aren't done making moves this summer regardless.

Ok @andone. Let me get this straight, it's okay for the Nets to stockpile picks and use them to upgrade their squad but a dumb overpay for the Knicks? Everyone knew you had to overpay for Mikal.. What did he do that is of allstar level? What did he do with his opportunity in Brooklyn. Mediocrity. I see Randall getting traded because of iso, dribble dribble Brunson wants him gone. This team will never get out of the second round. I predict. Brunson will get thibbs fired GREAT, and have his dad coach. What is next, is Brunson wife gonna be the GM?
