You have to be a bit more than a casual to understand why the value was there for the Knicks to trade those picks for Bridges. The way the CBA is today you can't have more than maybe 2 max contracts on your team, Bridges may not be an all-star as of today, but his contract is VERY team friendly. If you compare it to Paul George for example hes being paid 30+ more mil a year. These types of contracts are what is so valuable to a team like the Knicks who are in win now mode. Its much more than just that as well with team chemistry, age and what not. It is a situation where the value is hard to see but it is 100% there.

So context as a Raptors fan, one of the reasons they traded OG is that he reportedly wanted to more offensive responsibility that he wasn't getting with Siakim, VanFleet, and then with Barnes coming in. My guess is you don't trade 5 picks for another high quality 3+D small forward if they actually expect OG to stay.
@SoulGaleo19923 ай бұрын
OG and Bridges can both start. If Paul George can play as a 6'8 shooting guard, then so can Bridges. Bridges is more of an off-the-dribble pull-up shooter anyways. Literally Paul George lite. Divenchenzo can come off the bench as your 6th man. The most shot attempts that OG averaged for a season in his career is 15. OG's strengths on offense is as a floor spacer, play finisher, and offensive rebounder. He's had ample opportunities to be "the guy" in Toronto post Khawhi. Thats just not his game, so i don't buy that rumor of him suddenly wanting to be heavily featured on offense. It's more believable that he wanted out because the Raptors were in no man's land and he could go to a better championship contender while still getting paid. Unless OG does something drastic, like firing his agent Sam Rose (son of Leon Rose the Knicks GM) he's most likely staying with the Knicks, assuming the Knicks don't lowball his market value.
@johndebono18703 ай бұрын
@donovanmoore65 It's possible, but I think we're making a lot of assumptions that OG is staying when there are teams that can also offer him a max and the well defined offensive role.

The NYK had like a zillion picks that they were NEVER going to use, especially with the coach they have who would not play the level of guys they would get for these picks. In fact, it was for this very reason they accumulated these picks. A 27 year old Bridges just coming into his prime, a perfect fit for the NYK culture-wise, the potential missing piece to not just a, but potentially multiple championships? I'll take that over a 35+ year old, looking at soon being washed (but still wants to get PAID) Paul George any day of the week. He'd be a better fit in Philly, especially after this just happened. Plus, those picks will probably be between 25 and 30 with as good as the NYK will be for the next several years, so big whoop. And good for the Nets as well. They were badly in need of a rebuild and this trade will help kickstart that.

5 1st rd picks and a 2nd for someone whose never been an all star.... Seems like an overpay but could be wrong
@jlw77873 ай бұрын
Ok @andone. Let me get this straight, it's okay for the Nets to stockpile picks and use them to upgrade their squad but a dumb overpay for the Knicks? Everyone knew you had to overpay for Mikal.. Why are you surprised? You also have a crystal ball and know what will happen 5-7 yrs from now? Bridges, isn't that good to move the needle? I bet if he went to another playoff team, you would have said the exact opposite.
@And.One.Hoops13 ай бұрын
I don’t have a crystal ball, that’s my point. No one knows what this team is going to look like 5-7 years from. MLE which is what makes this trade so risky

@@And.One.Hoops1 Play for the now, not 5-7 yrs from now… Knicks still have picks and the way Rose wheels and deals, he’ll prolly get those picks back some way between now and then… Knicks will be a 45+ win team for the next 3-4 yrs for sure….

Not an over pay at all, hes a 2 way player, still under contract, still in his 20s, team friendly contract, and was on a city rival. Other teams wanted mikal badly, there was gonna be a bidding war and the knicks had the most assets u wanna avoid losing the bidding war u come big.

Knicks could have gotten Donavan Mitchell or KAT with all those picks . Yes it’s a overpaid
@vindigga63 ай бұрын
@@sting114 mitchell and brunson are both ball dominant guards, so no that doesnt work and mitchell does not defend. Julius and kat play the same position so no that doesnt work either and whose to say kat is available or that the timberwolves would take julius' contract. This is a reach of a take. Besides the knicks only gave up 4 of their own picks, the other picks belong to detroit and the bucks.

@@And.One.Hoops1 hes under 30 making 24m the next 2 seasons. Theres no other 2 way player in the league at that age for that price in the league. He has playoff experience, can create his own shot, defends the perimeter, and can knock down open jumpers. The knicks were never gonna find all that in the draft with picks in the 20s. This was a masterful move.
@And.One.Hoops13 ай бұрын
How do you know they are going to be in the 20’s. Most of the picks are years out into the future. Are the Knicks still gonna be good then? What if they have a year riddled with injuries. The picks are unprotected

@@And.One.Hoops1 the knicks came one game away from the finals. We just upgraded our roster. We didnt didnt make this move to finish 7-8th. We're trying to make the finals, if we make the finals the next 3-4 seasons then this was totally worth it. Making the finals will put the picks in the 20s. This move also gives us insurance if OG gets hurt (if he comed back) or if he doesnt sign at all.

So. Pat Riley wrote about how cliques on a basketball team is no good. And yet we have seen Brunson engineer getting all his college pals on the roster. The nova Knicks. Why is everyone so excited? What did he do that is of allstar level? What did he do with his opportunity in Brooklyn. Mediocrity. I see Randall getting traded because of iso, dribble dribble Brunson wants him gone. This team will never get out of the second round. I predict. Brunson will get thibbs fired GREAT, and have his dad coach. What is next, is Brunson wife gonna be the GM?
