Apparently the songwriter was on vacation, in Jamaica, and accidentally crossed through some locals who were talking. And one irate guy gave him the line in the song. He also was becoming chums with a worker in his hotel. He asked that guy if he liked cricket. He surprised when the dude said, "I don't like cricket". Given how popular cricket is in Jamaica he expressed ... a curiosity. The guy explained He doesn't like cricket ... he *LOVES* it". And boom! He had a song. ❤

@@WTReaction I initially thought the line was "Don't you walk through my world" ... and when the songwriter explained the story it was clear the line is "Don't you walk through my words". It's a clever take. I love it. ❤

Great song, No.1 in England in 1978.....I remember. The Jamaican guy is trying to buy his silver chain for a dollar that was a present from his Mother. Nice reaction. BTW the West Indies were a much better Cricket team than England at that time.

In 1978? Their top players, like the Aussies were in WSC & both were weak sides. Windies wouldn't start their domination until 1980 when WSC had folded.
