Hey brother, Welcome to the World of Home Free....they won the last season of The Sing-Off. This song was written on paper in 1913 & recorded in 1928...the genre is a sub-genre of Country called Bluegrass. Home Free does sing a lot of Country genre but they sing all genres. Next you may want to check out their cover of Boyz2Men, "End of the Road"....it will open your eyes even more.

I realize that a few have made comments about where they say this song originated, so here's my two cents worth. This song was/is originally an old old American Folk Song. Had been around a long time before it was written down in 1913 by Dick Burnett who published it, but it was not composed by him. He had heard it & recorded it on paper. The composer(s) is/are unknown. It has undergone variations over the years before & since publication. I heard this first in early 1950s & learned it in grade school music.

This song blew me away when I first heard it & I was completely hooked. These guys are all so talented. They lean towards country but they can do any genre. They all can take the lead depending on whos voice is best for the song. They are known for their tight harmonies. Tim Foust is one of the best bass singers out there & their beatboxer vocal percussionist Adam Rupp can simulate any sound. This song is very old & is done in the bluegrass country style. It was used in the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" starring George Clooney.

I would suggest their cover of the Garth Brooks song, "Ain't Going Down 'Til The Sun Comes Up" for more of that vocal harmonica. And just to hear how well their voices blend together, look at their cover of the Crosby, Stills and Nash song, "Helplessy Hoping". "Folsom Prison Blues" is another good, as well as "Ring Of Fire" which has Avi Kaplan, the bass from Pentatonix, guest starring/singing. Oh, if you just want a good laugh as well, try their "Butts Remix" medley, as well as an original song of theirs, "Champagne Tastes On A Beer Budget".

Tim Faust (the one with the really deep voice) has a few great singles where he sings all of the parts, try “Will You Still Love Me Tomorroow/Stay” and “Come Go With Me” Thanks for the reaction video, as a Home Fry myself I am always glad to see someone finding them for the first time!

The basso Profundo Tim Foust has such a multiple octive range, his head voice is a high tenor (see his solo cover of Frankie Valley's Stay). Home Free is multi genre tho with country roots. Mayday and End of the road (boyz2men cover) contrast to Folsom Prison Blues; but they put THEIR stamp on each song. Many to choose from. Btw, yes there is no harmonica; beat box champ Adam Rupp calls it his "No-monica! See home free drum solo from 2015 for his no-drum drum solo; followed by an insane beat-box session. We are called Home Fries, their fan base; welcome to the rabbit hole, my friend!

This song is from 1913 (Soggy Bottom Boys) and was featured in the movie Oh Brother Where Art Thou. Home Free is a country acapella band, but sings multiple genres. They won season 4 of the Sing Off. Tim Foust (bass) has a 5 octave range. Adam Rupp (beatboxer and co-founder of Home Free is often referred to as a "freak of nature". We fans are referred to as Home Fries. They have around 200+ KZbin videos, including studio versions, concerts, behind-the-scenes (Home Away From Home videos), Story Time with Tim and on-and-on. Most of the behind-the-scenes videos are now available on Patreon, only. This version of Adam's "nomonica" is nothing compared to how he does it in "Ain't Goin' Down 'Til the Sun Comes Up". Home Free also helped us keep our sanity during the Covid lockdown by releasing at least one new video every month. Because they were in separate locations they used their cell phones to record their individual parts. They sing primarily covers, but also have several original songs. Tim, Austin and Chance have individual KZbin channels. If you want to see Tim's scowl I suggest you watch "Misty Mountains" with Tim and Peter Hollens. The info on Home Free and each individual member goes on forever, so I'll stop here. Enjoy the journey!

Love your reaction!! Love this group!! Some of my favorites are Brothers in Arms (Dire Straits), In the Blood (John Mayer), Butts Remix, Do You Hear What I Hear, Hillbilly Bone (Blake Shelton), Hillbilly Bone, My Church and then a couple with no beatboxing are Helplessly Hoping and How Great Thou Art. They also released Ain’t Going Down Til the Sun Comes Up on their facebook page with Adam doing a lot of the harmonica. They also have their own solos out too.

Home Free is the real deal. All “a cappella” so everything you’re hearing is by their mouths. Adam Rupp Drum Solo (2015) is a video you should watch of the beatboxer who does drums and lots of other sounds. He was absolutely doing the harmonica sound. The lead here (Austin) can do a harmonica too. Tim (bass) has a 5 octave range so he can sing super low and sing up with the tenors. They’re all super talented. All take the lead depending on the song. Enjoy the journey.

Tim Foust the bass can go the lowest of the acapella groups, he as even broken sound systems on live shows. He can also sing high. Adam Rupp the beatboxer is considered the best beatboxer. I call him the sound machine as he can make all kinds of sounds. You should watch his solo on youtube. And Chance was uncomfortable but acting the part for the song.

I would assume Chance was probably feeling pretty uncomfortable (or at least more so than the other guys) because wasn't this one of his first videos with Home Free? Oh yeah, and I also recorded them performing this song live when they came to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada about 1.5 months ago...I've posted it on my "channel" because I would love for a reactor I enjoy to actually react to my live phone-cam version (just to help showcase how truly talented they are - it honestly sounds nearly the same live!). If you're interested, let me know!

Home Free is the best--period. It's easy to forget they are completely acapella and make all "instrumental" sounds themselves❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ In this song they are making a distinct southern (bluegrass) presentation--it definitely fits the lyrics of the song. Chance doing the jaw harp sound really sets the stage for this song's story. Tim's bass line completely grounds the harmonies and Adam's voice percussion simply cannot be beat. This performance highlights a lot of Home Free's strengths although they also handle ANY other genre just as amazingly! Some of my favorites are "Working for a Living", "Land of the Free", "Elvira" (with the Oak Ridge Boys), "Undivided"--and be sure to catch Adam Rupp's VP perfection in "Ain't Goin' Down 'Til the Sun Comes Up" (which is not on YT--it's on their official Facebook page).

Great reaction! I'm a new subscriber for more Home Free, THE BEST a cappella group period! This is the first Home Free video I watched 4 years ago & have been a "Home Fry" (HF fan) ever since! They won the NBC "Sing Off" in 2013. They were founded in 2000 by the "beat boxer / vocal orchestra", Adam Rupp & his brother, Chris Rupp, who left for a solo career in 2016 & was replaced by Adam Chance (called Chance due to having 2 Adams). He's the one you said looked uncomfortable but it's only due to the vibe of this song! These guys are the most incredibly talented "goofballs" you'll ever see! They entered the "sing off" as a unique "country" group, but they do ALL genres! Even when they're being goofy, their vocal performances & arrangements are perfection! They have about 200 videos on youtube & my favorite cover, "Ain't Going Down (Til the Sun Comes Up)" of their newer ones is on their Facebook page, NOT youtube! My favorite original is "Catch Me If You Can" & it's on youtube. Enjoy this fun rabbit hole!😊

Home Fry here (Home Free fan). Loved your reactions to the video I saw first and was immediately hooked by! Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole … and Home Fries will come and point the way (but don’t worry, on the whole, we’re a pretty enthusiastic but friendly group🙃). I caution you not to react to Mayday until you know the guys and what they do. 😉 Let’s introduce you to our guys: Front left in the video, we have the silky smoothness of tenor Rob “the beard” Lundquist. His lead in End of the Road is a must-see. I also love him in Bless the Broken Road, and Blue Ain’t Your Color, just to name a few. Back left is baritone/bass Adam Chance, called Chance due to another Adam in the group. He took over for co-founder Chris Rupp, who left on good terms to pursue other things. Chance is the one doing the mouth harp here. I love his lead in Sea Chanty Medley, Winter Song, One Man Band, and Brothers in Arms - a fantastic tribute to troops and an absolute must see! Center is the high tenor, the fabulous Austin Brown. When A Man Loves a Woman. That’s all that needs to be said. Seriously. Back right is founding member Adam “freak of nature” Rupp, tenor/beatboxer/vocal percussionist. He has several good drum solos, and to see his genius for arrangement, Do You Hear What I Hear, which (in my opinion) shows all individual talents, and how well they blend as a group. In that video, you also see Chris Rupp. I highly recommend watching Adam’s “nomonica” in Ain’t Goin Down (Til the Sun Comes Up), which is only on Facebook due to some kind of copyright issue (but you can react to it on YT). It is amazing. Last, but not least, front right, basso profundo with a 5+ octave range: Tim Foust, who is apparently part dragon. His range, control, and breath support on his low notes is out of this world. He co-leads in Brothers in Arms. You should also check the collaboration with Avi Kaplan (former PTX bass) in Ring of Fire. I also love him in Hillbilly Bone, The Butts Remix (which should be watched for comedic value alone!), All About the Bass, and Champagne Tastes (which he wrote). There are several videos of “Uncle Tim Runs His Mouth” or “Story Time With Tim” that are pretty funny and worth watching. To see their amazing harmonies, see How Great Thou Art, Helplessly Hoping, Mary Did You Know, and (again) Brothers in Arms. I also recommend Tim’s collaboration with Peter Hollands in Misty Mountains. These guys switch leads depending on who they think will be the best. They have no egos, and collaborate with other groups/artists frequently. They lean country, but obviously do many styles of music. They are amazing, talented artists and genuinely nice, funny, down to earth people, too. Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole. It’s deep, but you’ll never want to escape!

Home Free came to national attention during the third season of an a capella competition show called "The Sing Off", which they won (Pentatonix had completed the year before and won that season). They are unique in the a capella world, in that, while they can sing any genre (Smooth jazz, R&B, pop), they specialize in C/W. Tim Foust, their bass, has a 5-octave range; Adam Rupp, the beatboxer, has won international competitions with his craft.

This song was from around 1900 so it is from the music that led to Bluegrass and Country. For oldies, they do "Crazy" and "When A Man Loves A Woman", as well as the old Crosby, Stills and Nash song Helplessly Hoping (with no percussion). A really funny Workin' For A Livin'. A traditional How Great Thou Art with no percussion. For a recent country blaster, try Ain't Goin' Down, which is only on Facebook at the moment. Deploy your set belts before starting. It's not really time yet, but they have truckloads of Christmas music. They did a beautiful cover of the Dire Straits song "Brothers In Arms". They did a collaboration with a whole bunch of people in "God Bless The USA" if you want a big patriotic she-bang. For a bunch of fun, try their Sea Shanty Medley which is done tik-tok style. That's a start.

So glad that you enjoyed this, you are in for a real treat I promise you that. You may have never heard of them but believe me they are very popular for a reason. They set the bar with the level of talent that they put out! You definitely want to check their cover of End of the Road by Boyz II Men, you will see and hear a much different side to them in this video. You will appreciate them even more as you get to know their styles, personalities and music, not to mention their sense of humor lol Happy listening!

You have barely scratched the surface of the incredible talent of every single one of these guys. To see the unbelievable Adam Rupp go crazy with the “nomonica” watch their cover of Ain’t Goin Down til the Sun Comes Up it’s on Facebook)and many more showcasing each one of these great musicians. Love your reaction, I found your channel because I watch every Home Free reaction I can find. Thanks!❤️

Oh, he is a magician alright a vocal magician. Adam Rupp is his name. I've seen him do this live onstage and he can do it well. Not many beatboxers can because it takes breathing out of your nose and mouth at the same time. I subbed and looking forward to more Home free reactions on your channel, pick anything and you are pretty much guaranteed to like it from these guys, they are amazing! They were on the 4th season of The Sing-Off, which only ran 5 seasons and it was totally acapella groups, they won the 4th season, and PTX (Pentatonix) won in the 3rd season of it. It's on KZbin with the judge's comments on Mr. Duckbear's channel.

Home Free can sing any genre, this one is bluegrass to me. You will never go wrong with any song, whether cover or original, that they do…they are truly amazing! If you want deep & kind of creepy check out “Folsom Prison Blues.” They came to national attention on a show called Sing Off season 4 from 2013. The uncomfortable guy joined the group in 2016 (right the time they did this video. Another group is Voice Play along with PTX and others.

The original version is considered Bluegrass/Country/Folk combination with heavy Bluegrass influence. I believe Flatt and Scrubbs did this song originally and the song gained a massive amount of popularity with the release of the movie " Oh Brother How Art Thou " with George Clooney. The song was more popular due to that movie than any other recording or version of the song had ever done. Thanks for doing this reaction.

Man Of Constant Sorrow is actually an old Bluegrass song from about 100 years ago. It was made famous most recently in the movie Oh Brother Where Art Thou.

From left to right: Rob Lundquist, tenor. AKA "The Beard". Soulful voice, also can whistle beautifully. Joined Home Free 2008. From Minnesota. Adam Chance, bass/baritone. AKA Chance. Overtone singing a specialty: he was doing jaw harp here. Joined 2016. From Alabama very near where this video was filmed. Austin Brown, high tenor. AKA The Flirt. Almost operatic voice power, never shrill. Joined 2013. From Georgia. Adam Rupp, beatboxer. AKA Freak of Nature. Best vocal percussionist IMHO. Formed Home Free with his brother Chris in 2000. From Minnesota. Tim Foust, bass. AKA Dragon Breath. Can shake the paint off the walls with that voice. Joined 2012. From Texas. In earlier videos (pre May 2016) you may see a guy with shadow beard and a cowboy hat or ball cap. That's Chris Rupp. He did the baritone work before leaving for solo career.

The music genre you're trying to think of is bluegrass. You are about to start down a road from which there is no return -- the Home Free journey. They do it all, and Adam Rupp is priceless. He does more "no-monica" in their cover of Working for a Living by Huey Lewis and the News.
