I was expecting the Triumph T120 at my door but unfortunately due to some insurance issues I was given this as an alternative. The Triumph Street Triple 765 RS, Its Mental!
The Street Triple is a super fast sports naked motorcycle with all the latest features like the lightning fast quick shifter and 5 rider modes. I wasn't expecting to like this motorbike as its not my usual cup of tea but I must say I was pleasantly surprised. No its not going to convert me but I certainly enjoyed it as a fun blast.
I go into detail on the performance, handling, acceleration, engine, brakes, suspension and more...

My insurance hates fairings. It’s especially apparant in used bikes because the premiums are still stupid on bikes that are 10+ years old. I guess their logic is something like: fairings = sportsbike = bad. I’ve recently been looking at a 2015 KTM Super Duke 1290. At almost 34 years of age I can insure that for about 75% of what I would have to pay for a Yamaha R6 of similar vintage. Even a VFR 800 is more expensive to insure than the KTM. Absolute madness.

I see the comments about the lack of a rear seat while having pillion pegs. Theres a key tumbler on the left side of the rear subframe that takes your ignition/tank key. A simple twist and it unlocks the rear cowl, and the RS when purchased comes with both the rear seat and cowl and you can swap between them in your garage with about two seconds of effort. A simple push at the front edge of the cowl or seat and it clicks back into the locked position.

3:10 - KZbin's closed captions when he says Akrapovič translates to and I quote: "a crap of itch". 🤣 I truly think this may be a rather underrated beauty of a bike. Loads of people prefer the sharper lines of the sport bikes out there, but for a strong, under 800cc, naked bike, this is amazing. I'd love to own one soon and use it for distance traveling or touring. Fantastic review by the way! 👌🏻

I’m 5’8” and fit the bike well. I’m on the balls of my feet at a standstill. (30” inseam). I know you were complaining about the stiff ride, however it does have adjustable settings to make the back road rides easier to live with on its softer settings. It’s a bit unfair to compare this bike to a cruiser, since they have different goals. One can also complain that low seat riding cruisers will damage your spine on a bumpy back road. I personally love the howling intake and triple cylinder sound. The performance is also great considering the price point. If the bike has shortcomings, it’s the typical complaints of any “naked” bike… no wind protection and worse in rainy weather…. But that also means it’s solid fun when the weather is nice. 🌞😎👍

Well, that yellow is quite nice - and it is kind of beautiful maybe, at least in the eyes of a wasp... I like to use the quickshifter in my bike at calm commuting too because I'm so utterly lazy. Anyhow, the main feature of this bike is in my opinion the weight. Advertised wet weight 188 kg! It is a light-weight bike! Great thing to have!

Im just over 6ft 2 and find mine really comfy. I've also got a cosmic yellow model and covered 2k miles last year and 2 track days. I really love it and agree with what you say. It's a little firm for the back roads, but you can back the suspension off to the comfort setting if you prefer to do so. I've done exactly what you had suggested, I fitted spark headers and an akrapovic end can on mine and it sings! I fitted a rapidbike evo tuning module too and had it custom tuned by those nice folks at Torque Tune Dyno and what a difference! It's quite the lively animal now (wasn't exactly bad before!).. But now at 130bhp at the rear wheel, its got that extra added attitude. I think it's Triumphs comfy version of a GSXR 750 (I've had several of those over the years). Find the bike pretty versatile and would cover commuting and touring too if you wanted to, although it's wasted on a commute. You'd certainly arrive with a smile on your face though, which is what this bike is all about, so much fun to ride and appeals / caters to a wide audience of riders and their skill sets. 👍😎

After riding your typical genre of bikes this would of course be surprised with this gem. These types of bikes feel much more precise and agile. When I return to “retro” bikes I feel that they are slow to react. I had a m2018 Honda CB1000R “neo-retro.” It was quick and buzzy. That is an inline 4. The buzziness was drove me nuts and it needed a seventh gear! I find this type better in tight city traffic as the response is accurate and immediate. My new Guzzi feels slow to respond (because of what it is). This sometimes gets me into trouble. It takes more skill to overcome the bucking and lag in response while navigating traffic in the inner city. This model of Triumph is well-liked. It does look quite aggressive!

it's hilarious how clueless insurance companies are when it comes to cc's vs hp's and the combination of the 2. That 765 would walk away from a T120 but if you don't understand hp, gearing and rev limits then you'd never have a clue.

I laughed out loud when you said you were expecting a T120 and got this. Its like expecting a Golden Retreiver and getting a Rottweiler. One thing I do like about motorcycle insurance in Canada is it is not based on engine size but more motorcycle type. They've figured out that 600 cc supersport bikes and the kind of people that ride them are way more likely to get into an accident than Triumph Bonneville and Moto Guzzi riders who generally just want to putt along at the speed limit).

I love these. I own a Street Triple 660 S and I'm planning to buy one come 2025 when my license allows it (I'm 27 but still under Australia LAMS) I'm thinking the R not the RS but there are additional things on the RS which make it well worth it. Things like the TRT Dash, Bar Ends, Belly Pan and Ohlins rear shock very well makes up for the change in pricing. However I have a few parts on my ST 66S which I'd carry over to an R when the time comes. I'd have to figure out what can be done for the exhaust and what's available as the mounting is different for the newer models.

I've had my RS since the end of March (also in cosmic yellow), it's my third consecutive RS and by far the best, in both performance and handling, I know it's subjective but I couldn't disagree more with you re the exhaust and for anyone wanting to change the exhaust a slip on end can isn't an option it's a complete change from the headers back or nothing, I love the bike but have one small gripe, I don't like the TFT, Triumph's TFTs on the street triple started with the 2017 765 which was good the 2020 model not so good and the 2023 by far the worst with a much too cluttered look and the font too small but it's a minor gripe on a great bike.

Much better than a chunky aftermarket one. At 5'8" I flatfoot easily. I swapped tires out this Spring as our New England roads and weather aren't a great match for the track tires it comes with. I also use the comfort sertings on the suspension, plus went one turn out of the rear Ohlins(oddly labeled non-adjustble in manual). It rides FANTASTIC. Question for you, what do you think about a Tiger 765? Same Hp and Tq. I think it would be the one to get.

Impressive bike, looks to be high tech, high quality, but not my cup of tea either. I would probably get in serious trouble with a bike like this! 😂

The problems with this bike, are if you a short rider there is no adequate way of making it safe to ride, if you are 6ft 2in then yo are catered for. if you go any distance the there is a constant concern with fuel, the back end is useless for fitting a top box , to secure helmet etc. if you go out for the day. Surely it not beyond Triumph to incorporate some adjustment for rider height

I'm 5'9" which is shorter than the average man in most western countries and I ride it with ease. Super light and easy to get at least 1 foot flat.

Really good video Darcy. I’ve had mine for a month now and you touched on pretty much everything. I’m only 5’9” and have done some long runs on it and never get uncomfortable. My last bike was a Z900 which was amazing but the 765rs is just so good in every aspect

I owned a 675r for 7 years. I’ve only rode a 765 gen 1 once they moved the game on more. The Triple still my favourite engine . Now own a 2015 Daytona for track and local riding. Have to admit the Daytona is not as good road bike as it is track . I think the 765RS would be good at both . I Would have to sell my super duke before the Daytona. As riding on the road in the uk is horrible now .

I've been doing a direct access course, and have been learning to ride on several bikes in the school's fleet, but did my Mod 1 on this bike, and have spent the most time on it, and I love it. Your videos are great by the way - just very impressionistic and helpful.

Oddly enough the first thing I thought as I saw this bike was a Wasp! Especially around the headlights! Nice but like yourself not my cup of tea! I also didn’t like the sound it made typically electronic in my opinion but if your into going like the clappers then why not give it a go! Good video & review 👍🏻

Was toying with the idea of an XSR900 but I may have changed my mind after watching this.... it'll be down to looks for me. Not too keen on the bug eyed face of the Triumph where as the XSR is more retro which I prefer. Decisions decisions....🤔

I think the insurance thing is your age. I'm a 38 year old woman with less than a year riding and i was quoted £1k but I think what you mean about insurance is that triumph couldn't insure you as a reviewer because you're young and this is potentially why. I'm sure if it was your own personal bike you'd be insure but it would cost a bit.

I rode one of these last summer at mid ohio. What an excellent machine. I rode the “R” and the 120 hp is all there, believe me. The power curve is perfect. 3 cylinders is the best all around. The shifter was perfect, the braking was outstanding. I like the riding position with the handlebars. Its basically the fastest machine i’ve ridden that is still comfortable enough to ride daily. And if i bought one, id be sure to get a lot of looks and questions!

I had a 675 version and it’s a total hooligan bike, tons of fun but a bit of license loser if you get carried away, which is easy to do. UK insurance makes no sense at all! I’m a Brit but live in Austria and they grade bikes by BHP not cc’s, which makes total sense. Number plates are issued by the insurance company and I can use my plate for up to three bikes, simply swap it over. Insurance can be ‘paused’ over the winter season, hand plate back in and pick it up again when the snow and ice have gone! Cost is based on the most powerful bike in your stable… makes much more sense! Good down to earth review, thanks!
